Did you have a good relationship with your grandparents?

It is interesting to me when I hear about people being so close to their grandparents. Although I knew my grandparents, I was never close to any of them.
I can barely remember Christmas gifts and never any Birthday presents. I remember being baby sat by them out of necessity.
I have grand children of my own now. It is important to me that have the grandmother that I never had. I do feel as if I missed out on somthing in my life by not having this kind of relationship.
What do you think?

Hi Sweetierook, My experience was similar to yours. I am a second generation Italian and my grandparents didn't speak English and I did not speak Italian. But, we visited them (about 35 miles away) several times a year, and I don't remember ever getting a Birthday gift from my grandparents. We, did not have a close relationship at all. I will say that they were older than my wife and I are now, even though we already have 12 grandchildren that we see all the time. We, did not have a close relationship at all. On the other hand, My wife and I are always babysitting for our many grandchildren and we are always part of Birthday parties and special events. Times have changed.
