Hi I have 3 cats in the house and I heard that when other animals see other animals eating a type of food they will eat it also. I heard that mixing dog food and cat food might help but It did not. Please any tips on how to fix my problem.

A dog will pretty much eat ANYTHING that is withinh its reach and actually edible! The only way you can stop your dog from eating your cats food is to place the cat food somewhere the dog cannot actually reach it. My suggestion is that you feed the cats on top of the washing machine. It is a flat surface that is easily wiped clean and there is no way the dog can reach this high but it will be no problem for your cats to jump up there to eat.

I had this problem when living with my mom who had cats. My dog loved the cat food. When I moved into my own apartment he wasn't eating his dog food. My mom brought a little cat food over to see if he would eat it and sure enough he did. I called the vet because I wasn't sure what to do and if this is bad. The vet told me to take the cat food away and make him eat dog food because cat food is specific for cats need as dog food is for dogs and he wouldnt be getting enough of what he needs. So i'm like great...now what? After almost a week of trying different stuff I finally bought dog food that was in small chunks like cat food and he ate it!! Come to find out it had NOTHING to do with the taste or flavor it was because cat food generally comes in smaller pieces. So I dont know how big your pup is but maybe try dog food that is smaller and kind of the same as the cat food and put it in a seperate area, let him know thats HIS/HER bowl.

My dog is a very small dog too. He is a chihuahua and only weighs about 7 lbs. The vet said alot of small dog owners face this problem. I found mine will eat the Kibbles Mini chucks or anythign that comes in small pieces!

I have to put the cat food out of the dogs reach. If it is anywhere where he can get it he will eat it. He seems particularly fond of wet cat food so I have to make sure that is out of reach. The cat used to eat the dog food also but this new kind I ahve been getting the dog the cat does not like it.

You may just have to give up and put the cat food up on the counter or a table. Dogs will always try to eat cat food, and sometimes vice versa. (One time our tiny cat tried to eat dog food kibble, it was ridiculous).

From what I understand, certain types of cat food can be harmful to a dog's digestive system. We actually have to put our cat's food off of the floor - we keep it on a counter in the laundry room along with the litter box - another unfortunate thing that my dog likes! So if you have a surface that you don't mind your cats being on, I'd suggest putting their food bowl there, out of the dog's reach.

Give your cays and dogs both feeds. Give them dog food instead of cat food, I believe that there will be no side effects for cats eating dog foods but with dogs they have some instances that they turn into a hairball when they eat foods not suited for them.

Dogs love cat food. But, it is too high in fat and not good for dogs. we had this problem before also, you have to put the cats food out of the dogs reach.. Cats are good jumpers.. so it is ok to put it in a safe spot up high.
