Will it never end??

Ok...so here I've been feeling proud as punch that hubby and I were able to get a whole bunch of majorly delinquent bills paid up with the 401k loan that he took out. I even made a point to send the payments for the two that were going to court off FIRST. I'm thinking everything is all hunky dory...until I get a phone call today. It was from the first company that filed in court. The lady told me that they couldn't process the almost $2000.00 in money orders that I had sent because I still owe them $834.16 for processing fees! UGH! That just totally ruined my day! I mean, I understand that they couldn't compute the court and filing fees until everything was turned in, yada yada yada....and I did read in the papers that I would be responsible for those fees. So I'm not disputing it. It just shocked the living daylights out of me that I owed that much more still. I have until September 15 to get it paid if I want to keep it out of court. I'm going to do my level best to come up with it by then, because I'm just not that fond of being inside a courtroom. I did enough of that during my divorce from my first husband. Don't you just love financial shocks in your lives? Hugs to everyone. Pray that I can keep my sanity through all of this. LOL

I'm not altogether sure what you are talking about but I think that whoever it was that you sent the $2000 to should be able to take the $834+ and apply it first then work with you on the rest. Of course, I don't know all of the details but I think this sounds a bit fishy. Can't you get an arbitrator or something.

It's legitimate. I was being sued for my delinquent bills for the local hospital, and it went to a lawyer and it's set up to go to court. So now I'm responsible for filing fees, etc. and those are what I haven't paid yet. It's in the court papers that I'm responsible for those, but I didn't know until today how much it was. I will be making payments to get the rest paid. I've already worked it out with the collection agency. Sorry if I confused things for you hon. I was just up in arms over it when I posted this.

Thank you hon. As a matter of fact, I'm still fighting social security disability. I still need to turn in the papers so that my case can be heard before a judge, but I just haven't had time to get it done or to call a lawyer yet. So hubby is still the only one bringing in a paycheck right now. This will all get taken care of sooner or later. More likely later than sooner though.

I thought you were on disability or something. Can't you get some of these bills wiped out? I just think there should be a solution that would lessen what you have to pay. I wish I knew how to help because I know that when I was on disability for my back, I had an MRI but my insurance company didn't tell me until after the fact that it wasn't covered and I just never paid them. I was on Unemployment after my Disability ended so I guess they realized they weren't going to get anything out of me. Anyway, I'll pray for your financial challenges and believe God for a miracle and you can agree with me for my financial miracle!

That is just typical, that is the sort of thing that used to happen to us all the time. I can imagine that it shocked you, especially when you have made the effort to get the things paid off. I used to get annoyed because I made the effort to get things sorted and paid only to be told " well you still owe this, or that has to be paid first" I would say to my hubby that you think they would be grateful that they are getting the money. I could quite easily have gone to court with it, said that I could only pay so much a week and they would have had to accept it.

Right after I posted this I gave them a call and told them I would do the best I could to pay it off before the court date. But if it ends up going to court anyway, I won't get stressed over it. They already have the majority of the money, so what else can they do? Thanks so much hon.

Unfortunately it is legal. It's fees that I'm liable for in the court case. They are going to accept whatever payments that I can make, so that's a good thing. And if it goes to court because I'm not finished making the payments there's not much they can do but to order me to pay the rest as I can. I've decided not to let this get me too stressed out so that my blood pressure won't go up. My health is more important to me than that stupid bill. Love and hugs to you hon.

WHAT!!! You are better than me because I would tell them they better take that payment or see me in court!!! Some companies kill me being this way. They can't take payment of most of the bill because you still owe some pennies of the remainder. Why not take that as a payment, and let me work out the rest? You paid the majority of the bill, shouldn't that give you some leeway? Argh, corporate America.

That's great. Maybe they realized that you aren't one of the ones that are trying to get out of paying, especially since you sent the lion's share of what was owed. I am praying for you Kat and I hope you get them, and the rest of these bills off your back as soon as possible.

That is discouraging but you will handle it. When we were paying off our 20k worth of debt, we did the snowball method. We put as much as possible toward the highest%, and then the minimum for the rest. Once we paid off the highest percentage credit card, we snowballed the payment to the next highest. Are you on a budget now? Stop charing and focus on paying cash. If you need to get a second job, do that.

We haven't been charging for a long time now. That's what got us in trouble in the first place, and I ended up cutting up all the credit cards and cancelling the accounts. Now we're in the process of getting all bills paid off. Right now I can't work because of my back, so that makes it a bit harder. But it's working out slowly but surely. Thanks so much hon.

Oh, I think it will work out eventually. I haven't been able to get any more money to them as of yet though. Too many regular household bills to deal with first. Hopefully I can have it paid before Christmas. Ick...what a thought! LOL Thanks hon.

It really doesn't seem fair that you have to pay all those fees first before you can pay off your debt. It's like punishing those who have already been punished enough. Having said that, everyone has gone through these hard times financially at one time or another. The way things are right now, you are definitely not alone. I am sure that with your determination, you will definitely pay this all off on time. I pray that you get back on your feet soon after that.

I pray that that happens too, and SOON. Hubby is looking at getting into working with the US Postal Service, and if it works out that will help things along for sure. Thanks so much for the wonderful response.

I wonder about that myself. But I'm ready to do battle with them if it comes down to it. I figure I have 4 weeks worth of paychecks to get this paid off before the court date, so I think I can get most if not all of it paid before then. Thanks PPP...I'll let you know if you need to put on the boxing gloves or not. LOL Hugs!
