i am a single father who have 2 kids, one 3 years old daughter and a 17 month old son. my parents help me raise my children. my 17 month old son sleeps with me. but i find it hard to make him sleep, if he sees any light, he would get up.
do you have any advice to make kids of this age sleep easy?

the sweetest wway to make your child go to sleep is to sing him/her a lalabye!!! but be carefull not to scare your baby!!!! the other way would be to put the baby over your shoulder and jus walk around.. this might make your baby sleep!!
hope this helps!!

Feed him first with warm milk before putting him to bed. Someone suggested to me that if warm milk didn't work, give him a small doze of cough syrup.

warm milk sounds good. im not risking it with the cough syrup though, even a small dose, he might get used to it.
thanks for the tips.

Hi
i'm not a single dad but i am a new one and have a 5 month old boy.
Now i am in no way good at this lark lol but i've been reading everything and anything and trying everything and anything with regards to sleeping.
since my little boy arrived i've been kind of pampering him, if he cries i come running, i was letting him sleep anywhere and everywhere if he fell asleep there, now within the past 3 weeks my other half has started to stop me doing this because apparently it will lead to bigger problems later on.
So now my son has set bottle times, 7am, 11am, 3pm and so on, he tends to go to sleep soon after having a bottle and now i take him up to his cot and put him in there so that he gets a routine of not sleeping anywhere and everywhere.
We will all pamper our kids to kingdom come if we can but at some point we have to put a routine in there to get them used to it.
One of the things you mention about your 17 month old sleepign with you doesn't sound good, by him sleeping with you he is not learning to sleep on his own in his own room and his own bed and it's going to be increasingly hard for you to get him out of your bed and into his own. If light is a problem try buyign a blackout blind for his room and at nap times and bed time put the blind up this should get rid of most of the light in the room, luckily my son is happy sleeping in a room with the curtains closed so we have not had to get the blackout blind but it may be an option for you.
I hope something in there might help you in some way.
good luck

the blackout blind is a good idea.
as soon as i have the room fixed, i will start making him sleep on his own. i hope its not gonna be hard. thank you for all the tips.
