MyLot Popular Discussions

I don't claim to have actually visited all posted discussions so I can not say that my observation is correct. Be that as it may, it seems that when discussions which are posted would need more than just a trivial answer and requires some thought to be put into the responses, that the discussion is not so popular. i noticed discussions posted opn so many thngs which are not really topics worthy of lengthy discussions but surprisingly, more often than not, these attract so many responses. I am inclined to think that serious discussions are not so welcome in MyLot and that most MyLotters are more focused on posting as many responses or discussions as they can with one thing in mind which is to earn more. i hope this is not really true as this opportunity for discussion should generate ideas which can be helpful to MyLotters. Of course its fun to read the posts on the trivial topics but it can get boring too. Do you agree or disagree and why?

"Obama or Mccain?";"Firefox or IE?";"BSB or PSP?" (???)
You mean like these ones?
Yes, I do like these topics as well as they are easy to answer, require no intellect of your own and sometimes you can have a plain good laugh when responding to these ones. (Like the last comparison, I saw it somewhere other than mylot and still couldn't figure out what the hell do they mean. BSB is Back Street Boys and PSP is PlayStation Portable?)
Anyway, never mind. acevivx, you are so right that these can get boring as hell and after a few responses to topics of this nature you might think of quitting mylot too. But, then you notice some topic that really takes you over, you think to yourself "now that's an original" and go on posting responses to the newly discovered topic and eventually, don't quit mylot. Thanks to all the responsible mylotters for creating the interest in here. I am finding a lots of topics engaging in here and I won't quit mylot for a good time.

Some people like to post on trivial topics, maybe because their knowledge of English is not so good, or they just can't be bothered with serious discussions.
I know some new members think they will earn more quickly by posting more discussions and responses, but this isn't true. A discussion with no responses earns nothing, a discussion with one line responses will earn very little. One discussion with a lot of good responses will earn more than a lot of poor quality ones.
Earnings apart, some of us do enjoy the less popular, more thoughtful topics. I generally don't respond to anything requiring a brief answer. I would much rather join in a discussion where everyone gives their own unique thoughts or experiences. I learn a lot from reading what other people say about their lives, and from the knowledge they share. I often get new ideas and information from reading discussions too.
Don't let the popular discussions put you off. There is plenty of opportunity for both types of discussion at myLot.

Yes, you are quite right. I have seen discussions which are quite intriguing so never mind if others do not respond to it. what's important is that there are still a lot of discussions worth responding too. I do respond to these if i come across them and i really take time to give a good response. its also a good opportunity for learning new ideas and information.

I will have to agree with you. But to me a good quality discussion is what I look for. The way mylot is designed is that is the kind of discussions that they want. I think it is interesting to go to a discussion that has some meat to it and read the replys to it. It does appear though that there are a lot of members that are looking at how many posts they make instead of the quality of posts that they make. I agree with you also that some of the post you would think that no one would answer and it seems that those are the ones that get the most replys.

That is ofcourse the main aim of this place, to have quality discussions which are informative and a place for people to pour their ideas. At the same breath to be able to interact with multi racial society. Different people react differently and 90% of members here are after the pennies and I am no exception but am always trying to create and post quality discussions which so far have received good response . I do give myself a chance to responds to one liner discussions though simple it might look but at times need some brainy thoughts to put words in responding. This is only giving encouragement to those members whose command of the language is not so strong to be more active here. I can catogerise myself as one that is not so perfect in my command of this language but still be able to put my disussion across in a very simple and readable format. I wish more members will give an excuse to members who are trying to post but literally not on par with those whose mother tongue is english and thus have a stronger foundation and be able to express themselves easily.

So true but unfortunately, those fter the pennies seem to be more than those whoase primary aim is to have quality discusions. And i don't think its really a problem of English not being the native tongue coz i have seen a lot of Mylotters who are obviously not born to the English language but hp can get across what they want to say and who participate nn the more serious or quality discussions. I know that there are a lot like you and me who don't look at the sentence construction or the grammar (coz we too commit mistakes, at least in my case) but at the discussion iself to hich we respond. Maybe it's more a problem of always being in a hurry to post as amny as one can. Thanks for sharing.

I agree with you...many here on MYLOT , want to post as many responses as possible..keeping in mind ,, to earn more..
Many start a discussion followed by another , with same theme , and a little difference...
Well ,they do not want to use their brain.. ..I think so...

yep i also noticed that too people mostly answer to the discussions which are easy to answer because most of the time they dont want to read long discussions they just want to answer higher their post and go to another discussions thats why discussions with easy questions and simple answer get more popular in here i completely agree with you i really posted really logical and original topics few days ago but they only recieved something like 2 posts at most anyway happy mylottings

well I have seen those topics your pertaining to, and yeah some of it were left unheard. I think one reason is yeah money, since you can only earn little in one response so why bother puttin a novel-like response, second, most users repond those that are easy to answer that would only take a minute or two since in serious topics it will take theme more than five minutes to think and third, serious topics means debate, debate means lots of friction, friction means lots of unwanted words, and unwanted words means deletion of your responses and even the whole discussion ....and yeah.. delete means your earning will be affected.
But I have seen also some discussion that are serious and become popular discussion, lots of poeople give there opinion but still neutral you can see how careful they give responses. But some are really intelligent enough to make me read the whole discussion even if it has fifty or hundreds of responses.
I think there is still a little life in this forum.. its all in us membes to give those lively conversation.

You hit it right on top of the head. You weren't lost for words there pal. I fully agree with all you said but it is really quite frustrating sometimes when you are looking for a discussion to participate in and most of those you see are on trivial matters. But thanks God there are still many who know how valuable MyLot can be in expanding their horizons and that of others.

I totally agree. I have also tried varying my posts to experiment which gets more responses, and unfortunately, yes, trivial questions get more attention around here. but, luckily for me, most of those who post on my discussions are diligent typists (yes, they are also friends of mine.haha!), so the end result is more or less the same. still pretty good earnings for me :)
sadly, for my serious discussions, they remain quite alone and unloved. oh, a couple of people might actually pity the discussion and post one-liners, which makes me more frustrated because having had thought about the discussion long and hard (aside from the effort of typing three, four paragraphs), all i get is a lousy sentence. *sighs*. well, i guess that's just how it goes :)

I know how you feel about it and lucky for you you have friends who are diligent in responding. I do really think a lot about what to post (except when i experiment) and i am disappointed when I don't get a rise from MyLotters. I try to initiate discussions that would titillate the curiousity and exercise the mind but unfortunately, i guess many Mylotters are just into mylot for the easrnings. The more posts, the more earnings maybe. But as others said, let's not get too frustrated and give up on MyLot. Happy posting.
