the live cd is not just a command execution, you can test the entire OS from the CD and if you like it you install it.. I think the new version of ubuntu can be installed inside windows itself like any software and use the operating system from a window. Another think you should know is that there is a linux distribution that was made to help people used to windows migrate to linux.. that distribution is called Famelix. I think it would help a lot. Hope this help.

Famelix doesn't seem much like Windows, but hey, Windows sucks. Ubuntu is my Linux of choice.

I know that windoze sucks.. Till last year I know that Famelix has 2 types of "skins" or Graphical environment.. The XP style and Vista style.. I've tried the XP skin and I think that it would help a lot of people to use the OS. It's graphically the same, so people wo is starting with computers won't even know that it is or not linux.. Ubuntu also is my choise over the other distributions...

Ubuntu is the most popular Linux distribution right now. It's also extremely easy to use, and it looks awesome. If you're looking for a minimalistic OS, though, I think DSL (Damn Small Linux) might serve your needs. Also, you can run Debian on the XBox with a distribution called Xebian.

this can be a good discussion. i am as well, planning to use ubuntu which is linux for my OS. it is way different with windows, as i have read from articles, it is like black and white. it is said that you really have to adjust yourself and ask things what really suits you as a user before considering linux. you should at least knowledgeable with linux before updating your OS and other stuff like that.

I came to know that ubuntu has a cd called LIVE-UBUNTU CD through which we can do the basic linux command execution without installing the linux operating system. Can this provide a better start for the new comers??
