I think it's because of the text messaging. But in text messaging, it is okay for me. Here in the internet, it is annoying and not cool. I think it is childish and very informal.

Shortening words is really annoying, especially when you know that they can spell it properly. Their explanation that they're spending too much time on typing is already an old song. Maybe it's time for us to reinforce the proper typing habits. Although I'm against the shortening of words, I accept LOL ROFL BRB etc, since they're a form of expression.

The abbreviated forms are just a sign of the times. So many people are using online chat forums and text messages where you either have shorten space available or you abbreviate so that its quicker and more like real time.
You will also find these abbreviations as published information. So you may not like it but I think its here to stay.

Hi amae, You arer not the only one, we also dont like abbrevations for every thing. These abbrevations are location dependant and the meaning may change at some other place. Finally the abbrevations will lead to misinterpretation of message

I consider it a lack of motivation. It shows they are lazy and their sentence structure is terrible. The reason why they type like that is because they can't spell the words. I bet their parents are proud of them.

yes, this is really a problem. if you do not surf on the internet for a long time, then you will be isolated. because you can not undersand that other people say and you have to spend a long time to get use to it.

No, you're not. I HATE the abbreviations, there are a couple that are so "classic" they don't bother me, like LOL or TTYL, they sort of seem like words themselves. But RU U2 and that kind of thing, not abbreviations even, they're something else and just stupid. I get it for cell phones, but it shouldn't be on the internet or anywhere a person has a full keyboard.
