Well, just saw a report that Gardasil, manufactured by Merck, has caused 9,749 bad reactions in the young girls getting it and 29 deaths (12 and 13 year olds) since 2006 when it went into use. The main conditions have been the compromising of auto immunity, poor circulation and scarring rashes.
Its estimated that only 1% of those infected with the HPV will get cervical cancer and that could be because there is up to 40 different strains and only a few high risk strains but Merck still insist on running ads aggressively.
Merck responded that there is just no safety issues related to the vaccine that has been identified by them and that this could be symptoms found in the general population but I know if I were to administer my child a vaccine and have reactions like that thos words would be no comfort to me, Im personally not an advocate of children getting vaccines this young even had trouble wanting to give my babies vaccines.
I did almost get it because I found out I had a strain but found it was not one of the at risk strains and will not affect my partner so I held off because they do not even have the research behind this vaccine.
It looks to me though that so many vaccines and drugs are just going out much too fast and no longer is it necessary to have sufficient data in the form of long term clinical studies and I hear that the majority of pharmaceutical companies outsource clinical studies; So Does that make us the Guinea Pig?

OMGosh! My daughter is going to College and just got this vaccine. Let me think, I believe it has been about 3 weeks now, no side effects (yet) I was going on our Dr.'s recommendation that since she is 18, it would be good for her to get it. I do have a niece that battled cervical cancer in high school.
Maybe you are right, is the FDA pushing things through to quickly?

While there are the cases where girls react badly to it it sounds like your daughter is in the clear as I think these are fairly quick reactions but on the topic of clinical studies I definately think they are flawed because they want to get these things on the market quick as possible to make a buck and I think that about the heart medications too.

Also, I do think that younger girls are more vulnerable because their bodys are still developing so much, especially hormonally, at the ages of 12 and 13--the age they are pushing for girls to get it.

Now that I am seeing all of these reports about risks and complications of Gardasil, I am glad that I was outside the age range and that I did not push my older daughter to get it. My little one is much too little right now to have to worry about this, perhaps by the time she is older they will have worked out the bugs. I suppose I might not feel it is worth the risks though. I used to but that was before this latest rash (no pun intended) of reports about problems with the vaccine.
