A partial lunar eclipse will take place on August 16, 2008, the second of two lunar eclipses in 2008. Most of Eastern Europe and Africa, and a large portion of Western and Central Asia and India, will see the entire eclipse. South America, Eastern Asia and Australia will observe part of the event.
Many, in Asia, particularly in sub continent, have many superstitions and many rules which they follow...
But in western countries, few of them are concerned about it...
My, question is, does this eclipses, ( lunar or solar ) effects one life...Please share your experiences...

hai, let me share with you some steps that are taken by us the hindus, our hindu calender will state the date and time of this event.. we are all well aware of this. Today we will eat prior to the time the eclipse starts .. wash and clean all our food items, we will place some special leaf in our rice pot, we will close our altar (prayer room) even our temples will finish their prayers very much earlier than normal. the temple and the statues will be closed, we are not allowed to go out, eat or drink during this time .. Don ask me why but i practice it as thought by my parents and i will teach it to my children. There are some other Hindus who practice more steps than this ... Did you know that there was another eclipse last 2 August ??
cheers

Nothing wrong in teaching your kids .... something you learned from your parents....
Many people from your community are my friends....My wife is from India....
I have been taught by my teachers....and even the religion , I practice ...teaches us to respect all communities...all religions...
yes , I knew , there was an eclipse on august 2...I have seen , people , trowing the drinking water , in pots...before the eclipse start....So ,every one has thier own beliefs ...We should respect all of them...

I don't think that it can be seen here in Southeast Asia, besides its overcast and we can't see the sky.
No, it can't affect life. But it can surely affect the way we see the skies ;o)

It does nothing to or for me. I watched a lunar eclipse through a telescope once. It was fun, but it was cold outside that night and I just wanted to go back in the house as soon as it had happened. I didn't even want to wait to see it end.
Nothing strange or unusual happened. Not to me nor anyone else I knew at the time. We all watched it and no one turned into a werewolf or anything. No one started acting strangely. No special events took place.
So, while they are interesting to watch, espcially when the stars show up more clearly and brighter than ever, I don't think a lunar or solar eclipse has any other significance than that the Earth is between the sun and moon or the moon is between Earth and the sun.
