My cat keeps me up and night, because he knows how to open doors (I'm not kidding). He just launches himself at the door via jumping, until he catches the door handle with a paw. He'll do this if you take him out of a room, especially if it's mine. He also tends to whine if he doesn't get what he wants (to play, to eat, to cuddle) like a kid. If you let him in your bedroom, however, he'll think it's time to play or jump around rather than sleep which is what we humans want to do at night.

Yea my cat is really smart to, he can fetch like a dog he brings back his toy every time i toss it and he figured out how to cut the light switches on and every time he wants attention he cuts the lights on, he dose it mostly when im sleep, and he unplugs the tv when im watch it, i had to put a special covers on the plugs im really amazed at how smart he is i didn't teach him any of the things he can do i swear, he's something else, lol.

I know exactly what you mean. We underestimate the animals in our lives. My cat, for example, I think has learned that I just had surgery and that's why I keep kicking him out of my room so he won't poke my stitches trying to cuddle. But this morning I actually had a conversation with him, it was one sided of course if he had talked I would have been alarmed and I told him that he couldn't cuddle with me because he would hurt my stomach but I would let him stay on the bed with me if he would be nice to my stitches and not get too close. This exact second actually he had wandered into my living room where I am dictating this response to my assistant. I think he knows he is being talked about.

Little Goldie does sometimes. It is only because she wants to play or she wants to be fed. She is such a cutie.

Sometimes, your baby (your pet can be your baby) will sleep the whole night, but sometimes, your baby wants your attention. Pets are like children, when they want things, they will demand that you give it to them. With cats, it is hard to say no to them. I do my best to tell my little girl no, but she will do what she wants. I do my best to make sure she tires herself out during the day sometimes, so that she will sleep through the night.

i did have problems like this before. my cat used to wake up early in the morning, around 2 t 5 am. he ran around, played a lot and jumped on the bed. it is usually my boyfriend who got annoyed with him. but after we had our cat (he is a male cat) castrated, he calmed down and sleeps while we are sleeping. also, try to put off the light in your bedroom. this can calm them down, too.

Cats are nocturnal creatures by genetics and nature. Its normal for them to prowl the house at night. If he is keeping you up, shut your bedroom door. Changing food isn't going to change their normal behavior. If nothing else wear ear plugs. LOL I have 7 cats and three dogs, and have worn ear plugs for years.

Hi apples, I have a cat named Star who likes to bother me at
night. He likes to sleep next to me. If I try to shut the
bedroom door he will scream. If I let him come into the bed
he will try to bite my bracelets and lick my arm. I keep
putting him down on the floor and he keeps jumping up again.
This goes on and on until either he stops licking my arm
or he leaves the room. I know he just wants to be near me
but I want to go to sleep! He's really a good cat but sometimes
it's hard to get them to understand that they need to sleep
when you want to sleep. So all I can say to you is keep trying
to get you cat to sleep when you want to or wait until he
grows out of it. Star is 4 1/2 years old. I'm stil waiting!

Maybe your cat is lonely at night. He has your company in the day and then he feels alone after you have gone to bed perhaps. Have you considered getting a second cat to keep him company?
My male dog Secret keeps trying to jump on Magic my female dog. For that reason if they are not being supervised they have to be shut apart. Magic stays in the lounge and Secret spends the night in the kitchen. Secret hates this and can bark really loudly. I am worried in case he bothers my neighbors. I have been going to bed later than normal, having trouble getting to sleep and getting nightmares.
Yesterday I took a day out to wake me up a bit and have some fun. Good luck with your cat keeping you awake.

my cat only wakes me up in the morning to feed him. he just stands in front of me, looking at me, sniffing me and wondering when i will wake up.
right now as i type, he is sleeping by me.
maybe put some relaxing music or the tv set on to lull ur cat to sleep.

I had the same problem.
I solved it by selectively banishing the cat from the bedroom. Basically, I make sure he is fed and the box is clean before I go to bed. Then, if he wakes me or keeps me awake, I solve whatever problem he has and lock him out of the bedroom.
That way, he never gets anxious that I'll ignore him but he knows to only wake me if it is urgent.
Of course, I'm fare game if I wake myself up at night... ...but that's only fair since the rule is that *he* can't wake me.

Hi apples99
At the moment I don't have a pet but we are soon to get gineapigs. I don't think they are nocturnal so they shouldn't wake us in the night. I used to keep hamsters and they are well noisy in the night running around on their wheels and chewing on their bars! I think there is very little you can do about that!! If I were you I would shut my bedroom door so that the cat get in, he may cry for a few nights then I am sure he will get the message and settle down. Good luck

When I father carried a black baby dog home, he put it in my room. The first night it rested in the corner and whipered. I know it was a little frightened and put it on my bed. But it still rest in the corner of the bed. I caress it deep in the night. It is the only experience the pet keep me awake at night.

I've had several cats over my lifetime, and it seems to me that the younger they are, the more likely they are to be up at night. Also, if he isn't neutered, he might be wanting to go out on a date instead of hanging around inside with you if you are sleeping. As my cats get older, they seem to fall into my routine and sleep all night with me. The one I have now even gets angry with me when I work until the wee hours of the morning. She tries to get my attention because she wants to go to bed and she doesn't want to go by herself.

We have gold fish and a couple of frogs so I can't really help you out. these guys are pretty quiet. however, one of the kids is pretty obsessive about the fact that a frog may get out so we have to double check the little tank every night to make sure it is closed securely. Not the worst problem though.
