My daughter, who is in the Air Force, came home for vacation and brought home this guy, a Marine, whom she desires to marry. I had spoken to him before and his purpose was to formally ask her hand in marriage. I expected nothing less from my daughter, because I believe that the man she marries should have the approval of her family. I was impressed with her chioce (his being a Marine was a major item, cause I was), and gave my approval. I disapproved her first choice and she broke off with him. What do you think? Was this appropriate, or outdated?

I think that was a good thing. I have looked for approval in the past from my parents before I married someone. When they have approved of my now husband all was good. So if you think he is an awesome guy and you approve, that's all that matters.
