We are home finally, bad trip getting home.

Wednesday morning started out at 3 AM with little to no sleep the night before because my twin wanted to talk the night before. We get to the airport on time I check myself in while my sister stands in another line to check her son in who is flying standby. For those of you who do not know what flying stand by means: it is if the flight is full you do not get a seat. My sister works for the airlines so she got a free ticket for her son. The seats are available on both planes the first part from Seattle to Los Angeles with a two-hour layover then to Fresno CA. where my daughter is going to pick us up. I have two suite cases, so I do not have to pay extra we put one suitcase under my nephew’s name. My suite case I put in my name is full of my clothes the other suite care we put in my nephews name is full of family photos and antiques I am keeping from my Granny’s home. My sisters both where able to go to the gate with us because my older sister has her airport ID and my twin says she with the minor and the security does not know the child is traveling with me yet. We get through security fast because of my cane. We say our goodbyes and board the plane. We cannot get seats beside each other unless someone will move. The flight attendant asks a man to move, he will not because he says he is not going to sit beside anyone. He is sitting in a row of seats with on one so far and we ask him to move to the next seat over. He refuses and said he does not even want someone to sit by him. Can you believe that he does not want someone to sit next to him! Well of all the nerve. The flight is almost full and he thinks he can have a row of seats to himself. What a selfish person. I feel it is his right not to move he paid for that seat but not the whole row. If you do not want someone to sit next to you then buy the whole dammed row or seats. I sat down in the isle and my nephew sat in the middle seat across the isle by the jerk. Then a woman came to get in by the window. I asked her if she minded changing seats. Sure no problem. I thanked her twice. We pulled out from the gate like normal and we sat there, and sat there and sat there. I was wondering why we where sitting by the gate and not moving. Everything was set, we already had gone through the safety stuff and we continued to sit in like we where in line to pull out. We sat there for 45 minutes. Then that captain came on and said we had to put up to the gate again and they where going to open the plane doors. We had a “mechanical” there was something wrong with one of the fuel pumps. I called my sister who happened to still be at the airport. She was still at the airport and knew the plane had not taken off. She had seen it on the computer. She and her husband both work for American Airlines at Seattle airport. She was on her way back to the gate in case we had to get off the plane. Well we finally made it to LA. We had just enough time to run to catch the shuttle to transfer to our American Eagle flight to Fresno CA. My nephew had a seat and we boarded the plane and then we got going to Fresno. Yayayaya We get to Fresno CA. home sweet home, well almost home. I go to pick up the suitcases and OH no only one suitcase. Only my suitcase was there. The suite case that I checked in for my nephew is gone, gone, gone. It is the one with all the old family photos and the antiques now what do I do? I had to go stand in line like I was leaving for a trip and put in a report of a missing bag. It is now Saturday Morning and still not bag. I to word that bag we found and was suppose to be flown to Fresno yesterday I still have not heard if it got to Fresno yet. I will be calling soon. I am sick about it. It is irreplaceable items. How do you put a price on irreplaceable items? Have any of you ever traveled by plane and had a mechanical and had to get off the plane or has the airlines lost your luggage? How do you get paid for irreplaceable items? What type of price do you put on photos that are old from when your grandmother was young?

I was taken off a plane in Love Field by Southwest - they told us some story about a storm in the Gulf, but I knew better - then, as we got up to the door, the pilot came out of the cabin saying "They'd better fix that..." and I say "FIX? FIX WHAT?" the stewedess rushed me off and a couple of hours later they put us BACK on the SAME PLANE!

Yes, but I can't say that wasn't one of the worst plane rides of my life.

I have not been on any bumpy plane rides, I have not been on any that have been evacuated either. I have been on some that a children cried the whole trip. I am deaf in one ear so I can plug or lay on my good ear and hear nothing around me.

I've been on a few bumpy rides, but never been evacuated either. When I was a kid we went to pick up dad at the airport and the pilot let the front tires drop off the end of the runway so they had to unload out there and drive them in in cars to the terminal. That's the worst accident any of us have even been in.

Time to inquire about where lost luggage goes. I know of a place in Virginia I think that sells things after all attempts to get them to the folks that lost their things. You get reimbursed for your things and so take that money and maybe you could buy them back and get another nice little trip from it. Not that your original trip was nice however I hope you know what I mean. In this day and age I will be shipping my items that precious to me and most of everything else. Much better to recieve your insured package at the hotel or your home instead of spending so much time and emotions on lost things. Good luck with this and I do hope it turns out good for you in the end.

I hung the photos of my children and ones of my nieces and nephews that my grand mother had. I have a hallway wall that is blank. It is pretty good size. I am thinking on putting the old photos of the family there. My thought was to paint a tree on the wall and then add the photos where the leaves goes. I do not want it to be the strict family tree just an informal family tree. Starting with the oldest photos of my grandmother and grandfather and his family first and build around it with newer photos. Do you think that is tooooooo hokey?

It took them several days but the suite case was delivered to my door safe and sound. I am so glad of that. I was so worried about the photos that where irreplaceable.

I think that the man of the flight was rude for not moving so you and your nephew could sit together. It was strange that he wanted to sit on his own and not next to other passengers. So it was lucky that the airline found out that the plane has a mechanical error because if it has flown like that there might have been an accident. You must have been heartbroken that only one of the two suitcases arrived. In my opinion the lost items of sentimental value are irreplaceable. Travel insurance can easily replace a lost item like a laptop, or a camera but it can't retrieve lost images on a memory card. It certainly can't replace photos of when your grandmother was young. I think that not even five thousand dollars would be compensation for losing your special possessions. I hope that the suitcase will eventually turn up and will be returned to you. Good luck. I am very keen on traveling and I have been on many flights. No airline has ever lost my luggage. The plane going to St Lucia was searched by Customs and Excise leading to a four hour delay. Getting on a plane everyone was handed a newspaper and the front page had a story about Concorde Crashing. I was sick on a bumpy plane ride to Tunisia. Between 1987 and 1997 I suffered terrible ear pain when flying. Luckily a friend gave me ear planes to wear in my ears and these stop all the pain. I therefore get a pair to wear for every flight that I go on. I wish you better trips in the future.

I have to say you have had a harder time traveling than I have. I was going to say I have never flown out of the USA but while I was typing this I remember I have flown to Cozumel Mexico. We flew from San Francisco CA into Huston Texas then to Cozumel Mexico. It was two long flights. Once down on the island it is great. I did get the suitcase back. Everything was all there and fine except my book light. Oh well I can replace that for 1.99$ I am having such fun with my nephew. We have been swimming and playing and we even went to the Starwars movie today. I tell you I did not want to go see it but I enjoyed the movie. I did not know how the characters where but liked the animation and story.

Oh tea, it's neverending for you! Oh you poort dear! I hope that by the time you are reading this that your suitcase has been found. It has to be somewhere! Yes, I too have been in that unfortunate position, but my suitcase was just put on the next plane after the one that I have been on. It still was a pain because I had to wait for the next plane to land, and wait for all the luggage to to be taken off to see if mine was on there! Thankfully it was but I still was not too happy! But, I know how upsetting it must be to think that they might have lost something that can't possibly be replaced. I do have hope that they will find it. It just might take some time. That's one of the many reasons that I hate flying and hate checking my luggage! I don't know why it is so difficult to take the people off the plane and take the luggage too and put it on the plane with them.

Yes I finally got my suitcase today at 12:30 PM. It came in one piece and all the continents where in there. I am thankful for that. I am glad we got all the photos that I saved from my grandmothers. I have hung some of them already.
