GTA 2 cheat problems

Hi!
I have a problem with GTA 2 cheats. I play it with Windows XP. I've understood that I need to put GOURANGA as the name of the character to enable cheat mode. Well, I've done that but still not a single cheat has worked. So have I done something wrong or should I just press some button after writing the cheat? If so, what button? Sorry, but I'm a newbie with cheats.

I mean cheat codes. Some of them are really cool and I'd like to try them. However, I will not play any game seriously if I use any cheats like million lives or something because it would be almost impossible to lose then...

i cannot remember it but i think that you do not need to change the name of character in order to get cheats working ... you only need to type the word of cheat while playing
