I know what you mean. Its like we want to sleep but things just keep coming into our mind and we keep thinking about it and we just can't sleep. For me, I try to empty my mind and stop thinking. It isn't always effective though, and it can take up to two hours before I sleep. Alternatively, I listen to music and try to focus on the music, following it along so other stuff gets out and forgotten and then transit to just listening the music and slowly fall asleep. Still take awhile though, up to an hour sometimes. As they say, prevention is better than cure, so i try not to stuff that needs thinking before I sleep, but again it doesn't always work.
Well, at least you and I know of someone else that have this problem. =)

^_^ hahhaha, as i mentioned in my other discussion, i will listen the music till it stops then fall asleep (in normal day), but when after a hard work, which exceeds my perfect bed time, it's hard 2 fall asleep, mostly will end up 'eye wide open' and then go 2 work as usual, then the night after, will sleep like pig, hahahha, it's not good for health, but can't help...

Yea, I did read about the post in the other discussion. But even though its still music, the way its use is different. Instead of using the music to soothe ourselves and get in the mood for sleeping, we use the music to get things off our mind. Most of the time, I can't sleep cos I've have things that just keep going through my mind. SO I use music to divert my attention from the stuff I'm thinking so I can have a mind that can at last "shut down".
Happy sleeping!

What I mean is exercise during the day, not just before you want to fall asleep.
Somewhere in a book (The Land of Crimson Clouds by Arkady & Boris Strugatsky), one of the characters says the best treatment when you can't sleep is to let the cold embrace you... I haven't tried it though...

I've heard several suggestions, I will list them for you.
Hope at least on of them will help:
* physical exercise
* watching television in a dark room
* reading
* a hot bath with lavender (!)
* keeping your feet warm in bed, it's said a human can't sleep with cold feet?
Let me know if something works for you, hope that helps!!

Lavender is very suiting, it's also suggested for babies who can't sleep so perhaps another good tip for your best friends baby to bath her in a lavender bath before she goes to sleep and put some calming music on in the back .
Lavender works wonders, I only shower with lavender in the evening or take a bath with it because it will make me too tired in the morning , so it does work! .

My wife and I discovered "White noise." White noise includes such things as rain, or the sound of the ocean splashing against the shore (without the birds), the sound of a waterfall, and even the sound of the wind. Sometimes the sound of a crowd at a baseball game could be considered white noise. We bought a disc of the sound of rain and put it in our disc player and turned it down low. It wasn't long before we went to sleep. Be sure that you set your player to stop when the disc is finished though.

Hi, when is so late nothing helps I think, then depends if you have to do somethings in the morning or not, if you haven't read something and may be with reading came also the sleep, what you don't have to do is to force yourself to sleep it only makes the things worster...in the other side if you have something to do n the morning..just do it like if you already slept, take a shower and make a good breakfast...

ps(then there's a third way...but is an argue for this discussion-area...lol)
