This is a place to share your thoughts, ideas, advice and to answer or ask questions about homesteading with a pagan family. This is not a place to debate religion, however. There are plenty of other threads for that. I'd like to keep the peace here and chat with fellow gardeners, cooks, home mothers, animal enthusiasts and pagans. Lets share recipes that may or may not be on popular recipe sites too! =) What are your thoughts on living off the grid? Do you have any favorite tv shows or magazines or maybe a website? I like "Countryside and Small Stock Journal" magazine. The articles are written by professionals as well as people like you and I who have good advice we'd like to share, or fun ad inspirational stories. Seriously, when I pick up this magazine I'll be there all day and into the night. I just can't put it down. =3 ha ha A little about myself, I love gardening and cooking. I appreaciate a simpler lifestyle though I do not live in the country at this time. I have a backyard garden where I grow assorted veggies, blackberries and grapes. I raise cockatiels, and I have two cats. I do not have children, or livestock. I am very interested in cohcin bantams and highland cattle though. And someday I'd LOVE to have a couple riding horses, Gypsy Vanners. They are so gorgeous! I love cooking and canning my own vegetables, and creating new recipes or adding to my favorite recipes. =) I've read about gardening by the moon phases but I havn't practiced this. Does anyone use this method and how does it work for you? I sing to my garden, a little spell I made up to help it grow. It seems to me that my garden and it's vistors (the sparrows) seem to really enjoy this! I have a robin friend who visits after watering to gather up the bugs. What methods do you use for your garden or otherwise? =)

Merry meet! I hope your garden inspires you to cook more. The taste of fresh produce is far better than store bought. I'd love to offer advice with your gardening. If you have any questions feel free to ask, though I'm sure the climates are a lot different, gardening is similar most anywhere. I am also a big music fan. =) I havn't watched tv in many years, but I do enjoy movies. We mainly use our tv for games and movies.
How did you come by your spiritual name? Is it something you chose for yourself?
Bright Blessings!

Welcome to MyLot :)
My name is Tee. I'm the Gayest Person on MyLot. We held a vote and everything. It was good times.
In my youth I would have told you I was a Wiccan, but as I got older I realized that I could not limit myself to just one religious perspective. I call on many sources of spirituality to aid me on my path. However, the ancient, earth based religions sit the best with me, and I have a real issue with any religion who claims to be the "One True Religion". I find it close minded, ignorant and offensive.
I dont do so much gardening, but I did grow up in the deep country. We always had horses and the entire country side was my back yard. I knew no bounderies.
Now in my adulthood I live in the city for economic reasons but one day I hope to go back to the farm.
I am an animal lover. I have 2 cats, Tobi and Sashi (my boyfriend named Sashi... its like... Hindu for Moon or some crazy crud like that).
I also have 4 ferrets. Hodge, Sasha, Fawn and Walter. They are the most adorable fuzzy carpet sharks in the world and my entire life revolves around them.
It's so nice to meet you, you are a gentle soul and it really shines through in your words. I hope you enjoy MyLot. Fair warning, we get into some pretty ugly fights here. Lucky for you, you are more than welcome in our camp of open minded, spiritual, freedom loving people.
Glad to have you aboard.

Thank you for the warm welcome!
No offense, but why do you broadcast your sexuality? I never understood that about people. =( I don't go around telling everyone I'm bi. Unless they asked.
On another note-It's very cool that you're open to your spirituality. I think all religions have something you can learn from them. And all can contribute to who you are without controlling your every waking move. The "one true god/religion" thing really ticks me off as well. How selfish to cast aside or shut out wisdom from other cultures! It's my opinion that stupity only breeds stupidity. I thank the spirits that be that someone out there talked me out of southern baptist lifestyle. I was uh.. "born again christian." lol Even then I hated the way they said that. But for love, (of a man not a god) and stupidity, I was baptised. Soon after he left me I started having psychic dreams. They led me to study paganism more closely and now I have a much healthier lifestyle than I used to. =)

I am a devoted gardener, a fabulous cook, an unusual mother, definitely an animal enthusiast, and meet most of the criteria for being a pagan I guess, although I do not practice any religion. I believe that joy is the purpose of life, and I am in the process of deliberately creating my reality. I live in the country (in Virginia), although I lived in California most of my life... Hollywood and San Francisco.
I have 8 chickens and 7 cats, although only 3 of them live with me, (the other 4 live in an abandoned house in the mountain), and I also have many animal friends in the wild. I have two grown kids who are currently living with my sister in the DC area. And one day I would like to have horses too! I will have to check out Gypsy Vanners, as I am a gypsy myself at heart... well, ok, lifestyle too.
I think that is very funny that you sing to your garden! I have gardened by the moon's phases, and that is the way I prefer to garden, simply because I love the ritual aspects of it. I also practice companion planting and my compost piles are my pride and joy, hehehe. One of my kitties likes to ride around in the wheelbarrow when I am in the garden, while her brother lounges in my hammock.

I have not planted by the moon's phases in quite a while... my prime objective has just been to get the beds raised and the soil built up, and some kind of a handle on the poorly designed landscaping that was threatening to turn the whole place into sleeping beauty's castle... hidden under layers of brambles and briars! But it makes so much sense to me to plant root stuff during the dark moon phase and leafy stuff while the moon is waxing. I did it one year like that and that it was one of the most productive and beautiful gardens that I have grown.
Gardening is an ongoing ever-learning thing though. Like this year I learned that I will never stake tomatoes again, nor will I pinch out suckers. I learned that basil, cilantro, and lettuce should always be grown in a cool shady spot, with just a few hours of morning sun. Nor will I waste my time on growing veggies, or anything else, that I do not have an interest in.
Which brings me to the cucumber part of my missive, hehehe. I am not a big fan of cucumbers. I like them occasionally on pita bread with sardines and lots of mayo, or juiced with some apples and carrots, and that is why I accepted the cucumber plants that someone gave me this year. I ate one and juiced 2 of them, but the rest just sat there on the vine and are destomed for my compost pile. I don't like pickles or relish either, hahahaha, so I can't help you there... so sorry! Now, if you had asked me for a unique salsa recipe, or what to do with a ton of basil....
Hehehehe, that's funny that you would mention allrecipes... I am on their mailing list and get weekly recipes from them!
And I agree with you on the best looking horse on that page, if I read you right and it was 'Romeo' that you liked the best. And it sounds really good to me to where they said that it was a good starter horse for someone who was too nervous to ride a 'larger and more hot-blooded horse'! I am such a baby!!
I lived in Florida for awhile and had a friend there who had 2 Palominos. She would put me on the really docile horse and we would ride along passing a joint back and forth between us. Even then I had a hard time controlling the horse because I just like to let everybody do what they want and all he wanted to do was stop and nibble grass, hehehehe.

Pleasure to meet you! =D I havn't tried gardening by moon phases. I've only had a garden for 3 years years now and it's a challenge just to get a few things to grow healthy. This is definately my best year, even though I planted in in July. eheh...
You consider yourself a fabulous cook? Maybe I can ask for your help then? See, I just canned a batch of cucumbers, and the pickles turned out really well! Now I'd like to make pickle relish, but I don't know a good recipe. Do you have a good recipe for pickle relish? I usually find my recipes at http://www.allrecipes.com/
Gypsy vanners are a fantastic and gorgeous horse! They have long hair and feathers that look beautiful when they run! All the stories say they were named as such because they were really used by the gyspies to pull thier wagons. The horse is naturally showy and attractive, large enough to pull wagons and heavy loads but still small enough to be a great riding horse. Of all the pics on the net I like the palomino gypsy's the best.

hmm ok.. about me. i grew up on one of them dirt farms "off the grid" hated it then, and id hate it now. while i live out in the country, and i do quite enjoy gardening.. its mostly flowers and fruits. groundhog has won again in the battle for the vegetables the filthy little rodent.. next time we come face to face i might bite him on the ear.. but thats neither here nor there. ive got 3 cats.. one of which was wild until she became my dogs pal, now she loves me.. and i wont list all of the other wild critters that come by and say hello as thatd take a couple hours to do. tip.. from experience here.. them banties might be cute to look at, but theyll rip yer eyeballs out as sure as look atcha.. so i wont ever keep chickens again or pigs.. but thats another story altogether. im a full time mommy, part time writer, reiki practitioner exorcist extraordinaire.. and a devout solitary polytheistic spiritualist. i love to cook if theres someone to cook for.. movies, music, and im a gamer addict. wow ftw! and i guess that sums me up in a nutshell. welcome to the lot neko.. hope you enjoy yer stay

Thank you for your response. It's a shame you've had such bad experiences though. I've never had a chicken attack me for any reason. The more attention you give them the friendlier they are. Even my grandma's hens didn't mind a stranger like me coming to visit. Though that could be because of the handfulls of grass and goodies I brought too! Have you looked online for a solution to your gopher problem? Maybe live traps?
As for w.o.w., I think it's way over rated. =/ The characters are ugly and the gameplay was never interesting enough for me. I do love rpg's, but I guess all the talk-ups kind of ruined wow for me. I am also turned off to any game you have to pay monthly for. Esp since there's no way to be able to play say, all the levels in one month. Any game I can't beat is too much like work. =P lol That being said, my cousin is downstairs right now playing wow. ^^; eheh

only ever had the problem with bantums. oh.. and mascove ducks. and there was that errant goose.. but banties and mascovies are quite vicious little creatures.. regardless of how many treats and kind words ya toss in their direction. far as wow goes.. i think i look quite purty ..;nods;.. and honestly i dont mind spending 14 bucks a month for daly entertainment. costs three times more to go out to dinner and a movie once and id rather game!!

Have you kept bantams before then? I've never had a problem with them, only geese. I've had silkies peck me, but never do more than hurt a little. =) I probably wouldn't get close enough to ducks to bother them or have them bother me.

Hello! Thanks for your reply. I'm curious, is your hemp store online? Is it something I could visit? What types of books do you like to read? I read a lot of gardening and cook books, but aside from magazines, I don't read as much as I used to. I have too many hobbies! =D
