hai, we were just discussing this topic in "INDIA" it started with general approach on why people outside of India always claim they are proud to be indian and ended up at Olympics .. by the way i am Indian but not Indian nationality ... saw the opening and there was less than 30 participants .. saw the runners .. very embarassed, saw the archery .. shame to Rama ...

good discussion!!!
there is a big problem in India, is politics.. Politics are everywhere in India.. it effects our game and players also.
second reason is,, we don't think about gold Madel,, so far as other countries players are concern they always fight to break their own record.. but if an Indian player get a silver coin,, he never try for his best.. (Rajvardhan sing won silver in last Olympic but he couldn't do anything in this Olympic)
i want to give you a good example of,, Phelps Michael. of USA.
another problem is,, we don't spend the time to prepare that type of great player. we just complete only the formality.

yes politics (dirty politics) affects all the things.. either it is game or something else. but remember if politician behaves like a good politician then it can be change.

I didn't check how many athletes India sent. That could be one of the reasons as is funding for training, training venues, coaches, equipment..... Also a lack of interest in a variety of sports. I know Cricket is big there, but that's not an Olympic discipline. The less people perceive sports in other fields as a possible career choice, the lower are the chances of getting a suitable team together covering a wide range of athletic events.
