Bonding with your new kitten

Bonding with my new kitten - Isn't that cute? I lay down on the floor and she came towards me herself and started playing and cuddling.

There have been many lovely cats in my life, they all came to me in very different ways. Some of these you might recognize. Some of my kittens came from a breeder, sometimes there even was a waiting list. You go see the kitten weekly and watch it grow. Sometimes certain kittens are allready reserved so you haven't that much of a choice. Somehow it mostly works out great and you get a very loveable kitty which you see grow up every now and then. Other kittens were from peoples home, they were allready old enough to take home and you have never seen them when they are little. You sit down and choose whatever kitty runs up to you and gives you that feeling that this is the kitty for you. It's purely instinct, this works pretty good aswell. I once got a kitten from my parents, I never saw it before I got him. We didn't clicked, and eventually ran away to never be found again. Never, ever do I want to get a kitten again that I don't choose myself (it was very nice of them and with the best interest, but for me I feel like it doesn't work). Even though we didn't have that click I feel very sad not to know where he's at and how he is. With my newest kitten it's very special. I attended her labour (see my other topic for more info, otherwise I would be just copying and pasting again and again, because I can't get enough about telling stories about her! . She's one of the three kittens from my neighbours cat and I visit her daily. I feel like we are totally bonding; I never had that experience with any of my other cats untill I took them home and it cost me a lot more effort. Today when I lay down she ran up to me to cuddle, she turned on her back and stroked my face with her soft paws and kissed my chin. It was very adorable! My neighbour had a cam handy so we could capture the magic moment. It feels so great to be able to have this connection with this 4 week old bundle of love. For the people who haven't read my other topics, she will be named Karma. So tell me about bonding with your cat? How did it go? How are you now?

I have three cats, and my first two were boys. One of them I knew since he was born, and the other one was brought home to me in a box. Both of my boys were wonderful and beautiful kittens and I did what I could to bond with my boys, but I knew that they were not my cats, they belonged to my mother and my brother because their personalities were more like my mother's and my brother's personalities. When Goldie, my little girl, came into my life, she was three weeks old, abandoned, and in desperate need of a mother, and I was in dire need of someone to take care of. When I got Goldie, I bonded with her instantly. The first month was hard because I had never been a mom before and she was always in need of attention, but once I got to know her and her personality, I realized that she was my "golden cat" hence the name Goldie, that and I always thought that Goldie Hawn was one really funny actress. My Goldie can be a humorous drama queen sometimes. She loves to shop, she loves to take care of my older boys, and she loves attention. She cannot be alone, ever. I just knew she was mine the minute I got her.

That sounds wonderfull, these are unique experiences! . When I saw my kitty getting born and the mother cat came up to me when she went in labour because she wanted me close by, I realized that this kitten was meant for me to have. I did a good thing attending the labour and suiting the mom and I got a very loving kitty in return; that's how I came up with the name Karma . I love how you came up with the name goldie, is this also her colour? I would love to see a picture of her sometime!

Goldie is a long-haired Tortishell, if you know what that is and can picture it, and she has little yellow and orange patches on her. She is my "golden child" because of how we got her and because of how much I had to spend on her over the years. I have spent more on her than any of my cats.

True, every experience is a new and unique one. I can't rememeber a cat that I was glad it was gone, even though I had one cat that wasn't that sweet I did miss him after he was gone. He was still my pet and I still cared for him a lot. It's different from a cat you've had a special connection with, but still it's a pity. Thanks for sharing your point of view and happy mylotting!

I've bonded with babies, Oliver was only 7 days old when we had to bring him home since he didn't have a mother around. I've bonded with adults. In fact, Rio, who has been here for 5 years, has finally started to get friendly and bonding. Gizmo, who's been here since he was 4 weeks old, and we found homes for his mother and sibs, but he was the wildest of the babies, has suddenly started coming for nearly daily pets. He's always had his petable moments, but never this frequently - I like it, but wonder why he's picked me. (The roomie says its my "cat magic.") I will say that I can walk into her room and there is only 2 cats and before 5 minutes is up, there's 8 or 10 of them.

That's lovely, I have that a little too; I do attract cats around me. My boyfriend has this even more and I can relate to the walking into the room and more cats coming around. When we are in my room all of my 4 cats come up to my room when my boyfriend is in there; most of the time there are 2 or 3 in there with me and sometimes all 4. It seems like he attracts them even more . It can take some time to bond with an (adult) cat or other pet but in the end they give you so much love and affection that it's totally worth it. Thanks for sharing another lovely cat story! [em[wink[/em].

I got my current cat from some friends who moved. He is the sweetest and we are best friends. When I first got him he was terrified and spent a month in a closet because he didnt know us and also wasnt predomninaly an indoor cat. He bonded at first to the sound of my voice and later to my touch. He still isnt a lap kitty but he sits next to me on the arm of the chair.

What a lovely story, your kitty has come a long way ever since he just started living with you. I had a cat who was 5 years old before she finally came lying upon our laps, and it's still not very frequent, but it proofs that over the years it might change. Sounds like he is very loveable and you spent a lot of time on him to gain his trust. All the best!

Hi Cyberfluf, I remember the day well as your neighbour was concerned of the colour of the mucus and was online with you whilst she was giving birth bless. Karma is a great name. I have two cats at present and Wildfred I immediately fell in love with and even though myself and my daughter had gone to choose one, she fell in love with another so we took two home with us, he one I never really took to that well and eventually she left home and so did the cat as a little old lady down the road gave he better food I guess but Wilfred remained and before the other cat left she did in fact have kittens and Sybil is the one kitten we kept from that litter and she is very loving and more of an indoor cats wheras Wilfred although loving is outdoors more and will honour you with his presence when it suits LOL, a real handsome boy he is. Every cat has an individual character and some you love and others are ok but no real bond eh! Ellie :D

Kitten we might also get - Cute huh? :)
Thanks for another great response, Ellie . Yes, I remember that day very well also, 4 weeks ago to the day. They are running around eating pordige, playing, started to groom themselves and are a lot faster manouvering around the house and climbing in and onto stuff. Lovely age, but they are starting to bite wires too so it's also a matter of watching out for them not to injure themselves. Good to hear that you have had such wonderfull cats! My mom loves the other kitten from the litter a lot as well... it's 99% sure he will come home with us too. The third kitten goes to the brother of my neighbour.

I have a 4 mnth old kitten named Alexia and she also is a bundle of joy. She likes to play alot and she can sit there for hours and just play with you on the couch. Husband and I actually adopted her from an animal shelter at 2 months. It seemed that she bonded with us quickly and we knew that she was the one. We were looking at other cats in the shelter like there was this one kitten named rain and well she was very shy and we really didn't want a shy cat. So I'm grateful we didn't pick her I don't think we would have been happy with her, but now that we have Alexia things changed. My husband never like cats until Alexia came home and now he adores her. It might just be her personality.

That's a lovely story, good that you have picked the right kitty for you! I would love to see a picture if you have one, you can upload it to the discussion. Two months is still very young, I feel sorry for all the pets in the shelter but it must be most difficult for the pets that are older as they don't get chosen that easily. This little kitty was in luck, good job!
