Books are , by far , the most lasting product of human effort . Temples crumbles into ruins, pictures and statues decay, but books survive. Time does not destroy the great thoughts of which are as fresh today as when they first passed through their author's minds ages ago. The only effect of time has been to to throw of currency the bad products, for nothing in literature can long survive but it is really good and of lasting value. Books introduce us into the best society ; they bring us into the presence of the greatest minds that ever lived, we heat what they said and did ; we see them as if they really alive, we sympathise with them , enjoy with them and grieve with them .

shellyverma,
yes i agree with you. you describe books so clearly and beautifully.
it is said that an experience is the best teacher. but in certain situations, books teach us much faster and (sometimes) better than experiences. reading books, we don't need to learn by experiencing which often need so much energy, money and time (sometimes it takes our whole life). reading books, we can learn from others' experiences fast, cheaply and safely.
happy reading

That is so true. Books are also really good friends. They can represent an entire time of your life, and each time you re-read one of your favorite books, it's like seeing and old friend.
The stimulate imagination and can take us far away of deep inside ourselves.
Yes, they are the most lasting product, or at least, the most honorable one.
