To return or not to return

You love your sweetheart so much you've showered him/her with many material things your pocket could afford. But what if time comes when you have to go your separate ways? Would you demand your ex to:
a. return the material things youve given him/her
b. let him/her keep them so he/she would remember you

hi jaghead,
it's a though question. i never think about that. i never think that we will have to go our separate ways. maybe i will let her keep them. it's quite embarrassing to ask my ex to return the things i gave her.
well, i will play safely. i won't give her expensive things

yes i know that its rude...i keep things my ex gave me but i put it in a box so that i wont see it besides its a thing in the past already and i dont have to display or use the things which he gave me before. thanks for the reply.
