I got the chance to live outside of San Francisco, California for the past two years. I was fascinated by the beauty of the Golden Gate Bridge. Has anyone else ever seen it or driven across it? Did you find it as beautiful as I did? I took this picture one day as my husband was driving us across the bridge. I think it is one of the most artistic photographs I have ever taken in my life. It was just a quick shot that I took from our moving car but I think it came out wonderfully. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do. Does anyone else have a photo that you have taken of the Golden Gate Bridge? If so, please post it for all of us to see! :)

I used to live in the Bay Area when I was little so I have been on the Golden Gate Bridge several times. The last time I was on it was back in 1992 when my husband/then boyfriend, my mom, and I went to visit the Bay Area for the day.
The picture I added (if it shows up) was taken the last time I was there. Sorry for the quality, but it was back before digital came out. LOL

Hello koala... I know this reply is a month late but I always, always am left breathless every time I see the Golden Gate bridge for the first time. We mostly drive from the north so I always get excited when we drive through that tunnel and you see the GG bridge right away... I like to take pictures of it too. I'm quite obsessed with the bridge. A couple birthdays ago, all I wanted to do for my birthday is cross the bridge on foot. And I did!

I wonder why you couldn't upload a picture of the Golden Gate Bridge. That is strange. Sometimes the system messes up... who knows. Maybe you can try again sometime. I would love to see the pictures you took of it while walking across on foot! I really wanted to do that while we were living in that area but I never got the chance. Well, that gives me an excuse to travel back to San Francisco again someday, now doesn't it?! LoL! My husband rode across it with a few of his fellow dental students on bicycles! He had some great photos of it too. They rode from where they rent bikes near Fisherman's Wharf (I think) to way up in Marin County. It took them pretty much all day. He had a lot of fun but he was so exhausted and sore afterwards. He really enjoyed the experience though.

It was a very fun walk, even though it was very windy. We literally were "swayed" by the wind... we even had to hold on to the bars on the side to stand still. We were lucky because just after we got back into our car, it started raining harder and we could feel the parked car move. The drive back home (about an hour) was worrying.
I want to cross it riding a bicycle too but I still have to get over my fear that I might end up flying over the bridge because I failed to step on the brakes.

This is my second try to add a photo of the Golden Gate Bridge that I took. I seem to be having some issues with adding an image to discussions!

I have seen this bridge when I visited my sister in California two years ago. I think it is the most magnificient bridge I have ever seen. I was and am fascinated by it. Your picture is absolutely great. You did a great job taking the picture of it. We went across it a few times while I was visiting my sister and each time it made the same impression on me on what a great bridge I was traveling across.

Yes, you are right sunshinelady. The Golden Gate Bridge is a very impressive sight. It amazed me each and every time we crossed it. Sometimes we'd be traveling across it on a sunny day and another day it was really foggy, which made it look totally different each time. It was neat to be able to see Alcatraz from the bridge also. My mom and my son took a tour of it but my husband & I never got the chance while we lived there. Maybe we'll be able to go back again someday to see some of the sights that we missed while we were living there those two years.

Hi there
I lived in San Francisco back in 1992/3, just outside really, East Bay - in a little town called Walnut Creek (pleasant Hill), not far from Oakland. It was great. I was aupairing for this great family that had 2 small kids so I had an absolute ball.
I did take an interesting pic of the Golden Gate bridge - we walked half way across it and then I lay down on the ground and took a pic straight up ino the air! It offered a unique angle I can tell you. Sadly, the pic was taken back in the days before digital cameras and at the moment I don't have a working scanner! Booo Hooo - If I ever get the scanner working again, promise to dig the pic out and scan it for you.
Your pic is excellent for a quick snap :¬)

Hi violetdreams - Yes, I would love to see that picture you took of the Golden Gate Bridge if you ever get your scanner up and running again! I love photos of things taken from interesting angles. I have heard of Walnut Creek but never got to go there while we lived in the area. I bet you would love to be able to go back to the San Francisco area again someday, especially since it has been quite a long time (oh great... I just broke a fingernail!). LoL :) Sorry... what was I saying?... oh ya, I hope you get a chance to go back again. We lived in the area for only two years so I would definitely like to go back again eventually to get to see everything I missed while living there, plus go back to some of my favorite spots again. Take care.

Well, it has actually been a long time since I was last in San Francisco, and got to see the Golden Gate Bridge. It has actually been 34 yrs. now. I would Love to be able to go and see this bridge, and China Town, etc. again. Even ride the Street car, etc. and if it was during Football season, go see a 49ers game. I have always thought about taking time to go visit there again someday, so maybe it will happen. I was born in San Francisco, and remember visiting there when I was 10.

My favorite city is Sydney with its unusual looking bridge and unique looking opera house. Another favorite that I have been to is San Francisco with its Golden Gate Bridge. I walked by the side of it to take photos then I walked across it. Wow! When I was first on My Lot I knew how to post photos on My Lot and did do so but now I have my laptop I haven't got a clue how to do that anymore. I really like your photo. Happy traveling.

I would love to travel abroad and one of the places I'd love to see is Australia. I never did get the chance to walk across the Golden Gate Bridge but we did see it from the tourist spots on both sides and we drove across it a few times. I really liked the town of Sausalito. We went there a few times, once by the ferry that travels from San Francisco to there. Oh, there was a wonderful restaurant we went to that day. It was called the Spinnaker restaurant. It was right on the water with a beautiful view.

I have fond memories of San Fran and the golden gate bridge. I was about 12 when I went there with my family on vacation. I loved the bridge the city and the people. I liked it so much that next year I am planning a trip down there to see and explore saw an adult and see how much trouble I can get into!

That sounds like a great plan whywiki! I hope you have a terrific time there. Take lots of pictures! Places I'd definitely recommend... Fisherman's Wharf, Sausilito area, the ferry, Alcatraz (although I haven't been there yet, but my son & mom went together and really enjoyed it) & lastly, I went to China town a few times and it was great, especially if you like browsing through shops. The deals are to die for! Let me know how you like it. Have fun! Oh, and don't get into too much trouble! ;)

Yes, I did years ago when I was married to my first husband. I was really surprised that it was orange. You always here the golden gate bridge in my minds eye I had always pictured it as being golden colored. That's one thing traveling does for you it kind of opens your eyes to the world.

I agree... I love to travel, even though I have only been able to travel inside of the U.S. so far. But, either way there is still so much to see. I think I was very fortunate to be able to live in California for two years as I had never lived further west than Missouri. I mostly grew up on the east coast... Pennsylvania, Michigan, Virginia, and Missouri. I had visited Arizona before but had never been to California until we moved there. I don't think the golden gate bridge looked very orange. Definitely not like a pumpkin colored orange. I think it appears more of a rusty red.

Good luck in your nursing exams skbh12! I'm sure you'll do just fine. My husband just finished dental school a few months ago and is now practicing here in the states. He had first received his dental degree oversees and after moving here he had to go back to school for two years in order to practice here. He should be getting his first paycheck soon... can't wait! :) I hope you are able to go back to California to visit again. I didn't get to see everything that I wanted to while we lived there but hope to get back there again someday. I am sure we will.

Hi bettermanly - I guess it depends on your point of view, as... "I'm in the U.S. and I never go abroad either!" LoL! What a pity for me too! :( Well, maybe some day both of us can switch places to experience each other's country. That would be nice. Have a nice day and a great weekend!

Great photo! I absolutely love anything San Francisco or the Golden Gate Bridge. I have been fortunate enough to visit there three times over the past several years, and am moving there in about a year and a half when my girlfriend finishes college. We want to live in the city or in Marin.
Where did you live?

Hi thinksf - We lived in the town of San Mateo, which is just south of the San Francisco area. We considered living in Marin but decided it would be more economical not to as my husband had to travel into the city every day for dental school. Mainly the toll costs kept us from living there, but it seems really nice up there too. We liked San Mateo and the weather is a little bit warmer there than it is further north. I guess it just depends on what you like. I am sure you will pick a spot that is perfect for you and your girlfriend that you will both love. Visiting the city of San Francisco and being so close to the Golden Gate Bridge and all its beauty was just such a wonderful experience for our family. We really enjoyed it a lot. Take care and good luck.

Wow sarahruthbeth22 - I bet that was a really interesting drive from LA to SF! I bet you saw all kinds of neat things between those two places! I would love to take that drive someday. We did drive from SF to Monterey and that was really nice. So, I would love to do the rest of the coastline too.
You are right, the Golden Gate Bridge is a beautiful bridge. I think it is especially unique... not like just any other bridge.

I went to San Francisco when I was a kid and saw the Golden Gate Bridge. I remember it being very exciting and also being excited at seeing all the tall buildings and also riding in trams. I don't have any photos, although I did make a scrapbook afterwards I am not sure where it is! (in any case this was a long time before digital camera)

Hi winewhisky - I hope you are able to see the Golden Gate Bridge and experience San Francisco again as an adult. It is really a nice place to visit with so many different things to do. I hope you are able to find your scrapbook! I know what you mean about having photos from before the time of digital cameras. I would love to be able to transfer some of my old pictures to my PC.
You are right, they are called cable cars in San Francisco. They also have the BART and the Caltrain which are great for traveling and avoiding traffic on the highways. I had the chance to ride both while living there and they are kept extremely clean. I found people in SF so nice & friendly.

I was working on an oil painting of the Golden Gate Bridge, but I put it aside and have never gotten around to finishing it. For a year I worked at a place where my office window looked on onto the Bay. That was pretty special. From there the Golden Gate Bridge was in the distance, but definitely visible once the morning fog lifted.

I thought that when we retired I would have more time for my own painting, but in truth although I've done a few pictures, not as many as before. I'm drawing more now than then however, and learning to do that better will make my paintings better. Now that you jog my memory, there was one Golden Gate painting that I did finish--it was a bit abstract whereas the one in progress is more realistic, but I liked it. I didn't put it up for sale so it must still be around here somewhere! I should dig it out and entertain my myLot friends with it, eh?

That must have been really nice drannhh to have had that view from your office of the Bay and the Golden Gate Bridge too. You should pull out that oil painting that you started and try to finish it. Do you paint often? I would love to take an art class now as an adult... specifically a ceramics class. I used the potter's wheel a little while in high school years and years ago and I really like it a lot.

Hi travibabiesgirl - I was very fortunate to be able to live outside of the San Francisco area for the past 2 years. We moved there while my husband was in dental school but now we moved back to Virginia where we are settling. I had never been to California before that so it was a nice treat to be there and experience that part of the country. I'm glad we went as there are so many great things to see and do there.

Sorry it has taken me so long to get back to you travibabiesgirl. I do like Virginia too, but it is very different than the San Francisco California area. We used to live in Virginia Beach near the Chesapeake Bay. My mom still lives there so we can visit anytime we want now that we are much closer. Now we live just south of Richmond, VA and it is nice here too. We're still very very new to the area here so we have lots of sightseeing plans to make... hopefully soon after we get settled in more.

That is a really cool experience. I love new experiences and it sounds like you have had a great one getting to live in Cali. Do you like Virginia? Have you ever lived there before? I have not gotten the pleasure of going to either of those places yet but am hoping to go to Virginia in a couple of years. I have other must see places first so I have the next three years planned out on vacations lol then I want to go to Virginia among other places up that way. I am a rich girl trapped in a poor girls body. I want to see it all as fast as I can but money keeps it limited to one or two trips a year. I am so glad that you enjoyed your experience in Cali especially when it was a place you had to live at for two years.

Hi koala,
Yes I have been over the Golden Gate Bridge many times. My very first time was at 5:00am and the sun was just rising. It was the most incredible sight I had ever seen at that time in my life. Probably in the top 10 best sights of my life. My husband and I drove the streets of San Fran. and it was before the town came to life. The only way to see a city like that. Didn't get any pictures but I can still see it in my mind. Thanks for taking me down memory lane.

Hi leenie50 - yes, I would have to agree that seeing San Francisco and the Golden Gate Bridge have been one of the best sightseeing experiences that I have had as well. I have many more pictures of that area but this one of the bridge is one of my favorites. I will have to post some others when I get the chance. I bet seeing the bridge at sunrise was beautiful. I never saw it at that time of day. I really loved the weather where we lived. It was about 20 minutes south of San Francisco. It got a little warmer during the day than the downtown area and the morning fog would burn off almost like clockwork everyday before 10:00am. It was a very nice experience having the chance to live there for two years. Now, we are back in good old Virginia and the much warmer weather, plus the heavy humidity at times. But, other than that, I really like it here too. Hope you have a nice evening. Take care.

Hi koala
Where did you say you lived in Ca.? Did I tell you I lived about 2 hrs south of San Fran. just outside of Morro Bay? It was a lttle town called Los Osos. Have you heard of it? I was across the bay from Morro Bay. I called it Paradise!! I'm glad to be back in Fl. to be around my family again, but there is nothing like the Central Coast of Ca. I also hope to see Virginia someday.

Koala,
Actually where I lived was 4 hours south of San Fran. I misspoke. cambria was only like 30 minutes tops, North of Morro Bay and Los Osos. From Cambria, San Simeon, Cayucos, Morro Bay and Los Osos, down to Pismo Beach and Santa Barbara, those were our stomping grounds. From San Francisco down to Pismo Beach is in my opinion the most beautiful Coastline I have ever seen. All the little towns are so unique. I really hope that my husband and I can retirwe there someday. If not, at least I had the priviledge of having lived there for all the years that I did.
