So how many of you go full out shopping every year for back to school? New backpacks, new clothing, full set of supplies? And how many of you re-use things as much as you can? I try to be frugal as much as possible but when the big one gets a new backpack or whatever, it sure is a hard sell to have the little ones re-use their old ones (no matter what kind of shape they're in!)...

My kids re-use a lot of their school supplies like backpacks and lunch bags. I have 3 girls so it makes sharing a lot easier. If they get too worn out I will buy them new ones but otherwise I would rather not waste the money on something new if there is nothing wrong with the one they have.

It has been years sense my boys were young and in school. But yes I did buy everything new every year. They were boys, and things only seemed to last one year!
They were boys and hated back to school shopping, they did not want to go. Man it was a big pain. But I survived! LOL

I do not go all out with the shopping thing for back to school. I can't afford it currently even if I wanted to. We are in the midst of a big move and my 13 year old son will be starting at a new school this year for 8th grade. Luckily, we bought him a nice backpack last year and it really held up well. I asked him if he wanted to buy a new one this year and he wants to keep the one he had. Thank goodness... one less thing I need to buy. We printed out his school supply list and will be shopping for those things next week. We're moving into our new place this coming Thursday so it is going to be kind of hectic with getting situated and getting him ready to start school.

oh yes my friend, back to school is a bit bothering especially now that even the smallest items needed in school has its prices gone up. but there are still some items that can be reuse and can even put together, all those left over from the previous year. well, this can be done with some kids that are not so typical about their school needs. Well, I am 18 and in the last year of high school, and I buy everything for myself, my clothing, supplies, and food, I don't feel as if it is my mother's responsibility, living under her roof is something to be thankful for, and I cannot take her gifts and money. Since I buy my own supplies I am very frugal, I use what pencils and pens that I have, and I find the cheapest notebooks that I possibly can buy, I don't need too much, and I haven't used a backpack since I was in 5th grade (and even then I was buying my own things). I also do not go out buying new wardrobes, I wear what clothing I have, and when I need new clothing I get what I need, nothing extra. By being in control of my money I feel like I know what it is like in the real world beyond high school, and I am preparing for college by working at my job, even if my parents wanted to help with that I know that they could not afford it, and I could never ask them to pay for that haha.
