was it from a friend, or see in paper or maybe a rescue home or breeder?? we all have little stories behind how we come to getting our cute little cat
as for me, my ex boyfriend and me was talking about pets one day while in the garden... he mentioned about Persians, at time i never thought of pedigree cat, as in past id had unwanted cats.. we sold our nokia phones on ebay and used the money for Ruby my cat, from a breeder we found online. She was worth every penny when i think of the joy she has given me and has the most placid temperament i have ever known... i also always loved ginger cats
now id also love a black Persian as they are so cute as i seen in youtube..

You name it, I've probably got a story for it.
I got Oliver when the neighbor of my roomie's folks came over with this tiny black and white ratty looking thing in her hand. "We found this kitten," she said.
I held out my hands, and took him right to a pet store for some KMR and a bottle to feed him with.
I got Rygel when I followed his mom back to her apartment and knocked. The couple there told me she had 4 kittens, and they were tired of her. They brought the kittens to the door.
I said: "I'll take them."
"Which one?" they asked. "All of them, I'll find homes for them." And I did, except Rygel, he was just so cool and when he helped us with Oliver we couldn't send him away.
Those are the 2 cats in my avatar, Oliver is the little one - tho he's all grown up now.
I've never gotten a cat from a breeder, there's too many that need homes from people are too irresponsible to fix their cats.
I love my cats, but I do think I have a few too many....

I haven't ever cared for Persians. First, I really don't like taking care of all that hair! So, while I have TOOOO many cats, only 3 are long haired, and only Rio has ever needed grooming and matts cut out.
A friend found a Persian, he was such a mess. We called him Bawb - tho the roomie was avocating Kreature from Harry Potter. We found him a home with a groomer who loved him.

I got my cats from North Shore Animal League or the ASPCA. Or maybe they're one in the same. Either way, I adopted them for free from an animal shelter. My mother chose them, actually, because they looked peaceful sitting alongside each other in the cage (oh how wrong of an assumption that was, though it wasn't unfortunate). Besides that, of course, they were adorable and unique: white with black spots, like cow cats.

I rented a house and couldn't have any pets but cats. My friend got another cat from the shelter and it didn't get along with the other animals in her house so she gave her to me. I've had her for eleven years now and she was my first cat ever.

I normally get my cats from a local no-kill cat foster program, Cat Connection. I've picked out three cats from there. Currently, we have Mully and Mabel, and they are spoiled rotten tabbies. They are supposed to be sisters, but they are so different in temperament! One is a princess, the other acts like a dog. I love my cats, too...and I'm glad I can help those who are homeless.

i have three cats at home now, and one who passed away. my first cat is the girl in my avatar. i found her lying in the middle of a road motionless. brought her home and nursed her back to health. now she sleeps with me every night. my second cat, my deceased boy, was handed over to me by my ex-colleague. he was a stray cat at our canteen. my ex-colleague tried to feed him some fish but the food was snatched away by an adult stray. so my ex-colleague asked me to take him in. will share about my other two cats some other times. cheers ;p

We got out cat Kit from our cabin. My parents went out there one weekend and they heard something under the cabana. It turned out that it was little kitten. They brought her in and gave her some sardines and some milk. As that was all they had out there. Her stomach was so caved in that when they brought her home it took about 2 weeks before her stomach calmed down and she could actually eat without vomiting.
At my other house my fiances sister moved away and left us with all her cats. We have since had babies with one of them and they are just the farm/barn cats that come up once in awhile for some lovin and a little treat.

i haven't read all the responses in this discussion but i think i could relate to some that i have browsed that they got their cat from the streets. when i was in highschool i used to pick up stray cats so long as they are clean and not very wild. so sad i don't own a cat now because we have like 6 dogs which were down to 4 and they all hate cats=( the latest cat i had was 5-6 years ago? i also picked him up from the street=) it was like a new year's present because i got him hours before new year (=^.^=) he was so cute a kitten, colored in bright white with some gray/black spots. i named him mimu and i had him for around 2 years? i lost him when we transferred houses. my mother got him back but he jumped from the car. scared, i guess..wish him well wherever he's now..miss him sooo much ('_')

Like our previous one, we got our current cat from the local animal shelter. They highlight selected animals in the local paper, and our cat was the one they selected to picture the week prior to Christmas a year and a half ago. I had told my husband that I was ready for another. He saw the picture of the cat in the paper and showed it to me. We went to the shelter the next day and asked about the cat. When the shelter worker brought him out and put him on the counter, he walked right up to my husband and rubbed his head on his arm. My husband quickly said, "We'll take him."
Our cat was about 1 1/2 years old at the time and had been at the shelter about 3 months already. They would not have been able to keep him much longer. He had been passed over because most people want to adopt kittens not adult cats. He was still young enough to play as much as we senior citizens want. We feel that adopting an adult cat was a wise move, and he seems to think so, too.

Missy: Stray
Angel: Shelter
Paco: Shelter
Bucky: Shelter
Sherbert: Stray
Frankly, unless one is breeding for showing cats, there shouldn't be any need for breeding cats for house pets. There are plenty enough out there in the shelters to go around THREE times over! ALL of my babies are just wonderful, and I will always go to the shelter to find more when I want more.

Haha this made me laugh as I have got a reputation for taking in the waifs and strays, although I am trying to toughen up.
We had a cat that used to come into our old flat everyday, and I gave it a collar and named it Scrounger. He used to settle in for the night and moved with us. We then gained another cat called Porkie. He was a one eyed cat and was getting on. He belonged to my neighbours who were moving so I took him in. Unfortunately both cats have since passed away due to old age but lived happy and long lives.
Now I have 2 cats. Patch belonged to a parent at the nursery I work in. She had 2 cats and also was moving and they couldn't take cats with them. Other staff had said to ask me so I took in Patch and Moo Moo. Moo Moo decided he preferred to live with a family round the corner, so I let him go and Patch is still with us. She used to be a very nervous and jumpy cat, but now she has built up her confidence and has turned out to be a cool but crazy cat. Our other cat Cuddles used to be my mums. She got to the stage where she was worried about falling on the cat, due to ill health, so Cuddles came to stay with me. My mum has since passed away, and the cat is still with us. She is getting on herself though as she was born when I was 15 so that is 21 years ago. I never thought she would outlive my mum but she proved us all wrong.

hmm you know the saying, dont feed a cat unless your prepared for it to keep coming back until it owns you but i have done the same in past, was a cat that chose my garden shed to have its kittens in and then later she abandoned them.. i had cat called patch, unfortunately they dont like a move so we had to leave her behind, she ran away as sensed us moving.. was ok because a friend found her for me and found a good home for her
really great stories of your cat history.. fantastic seen kittens born? its amazing, and way the cat deals with it all them selfs.. my children watched patch deliver, and this is the funniest part, after kitten born, daughter say.. what is that coming from its belly, my son suddenly say in a i know serious face. 'thats its lead silly, so she dont run away'

My little angel came from the local PetSmart's adoption window. I'd grown up with cats my whole life until I got married, and then I went 3 years without one, because apartment living wasn't always cat-friendly. When we bought our house, we got it ready for a cat and went looking. The first place we stopped was the right one, because there he was. He was just the friendliest thing, and he loved my hubby right away! (Which was important to me, because I didn't want either of them unhappy). We are nearing 1 year with Hudson, and he's taken over our hearts and the house (and the bed, and the chairs, and the sofas, and half the stuffed animals..)
I had wanted to give a home to a cat that really needed it, and in return I found a friend and constant companion!

I have 3 cats. My black and white tuxedo, Sydney, came from a pet store in Atlanta, Georgia. My second cat (all black with a little white triangle on her chest), Purr, I adopted her from Petsmart. And, my 3rd one who is gray and white like a Tuxedo cat, her name is Martini, I bought from another pet store in my town. I love them all. And, all three of them have different temperaments. Sydney is sweet, loving, cuddly and talkative. She has a very nurturing way about her. She is sort of like the mommy of the three of them. Purr is needy. She is sweet and skidderish and can be a little overwhelming with her need for attention sometimes. And, Martini is the kind of independent that most people who don't have cats, all think cats are. She is a guys cat. She loves my hubby and my boy dog most of the entire house. She will allow my hubby to pet her and give her more attention than me and she will also cuddle with him more than with me. But, when she doesn't want to be touched, she will get a little fiesty. She will roll over and either slap your hand or grab it and start kicking it with her find feet. Sometimes she will bite too. Not too hard but hard enough to get her point across. She is very strong and very brave.
I love them all and love all of their little different personalities!

All of my cats have been chance acquisitions.
My latest, Mambo, I got at a garage sale.
Some friends were having a garage sale so we showed up to check it out and lend moral support (and to see if they were getting rid of anything cool). He (Mambo) was laying on one of the blankets laid out on the front lawn. I said, "hey, he doesn't have a price tag." She said, he's free, you want him?
Normally, I'd have said no because I already had two cats at the time but I knew that Mambo had been banished to be an outdoor only cat because he'd taken to spraying inside in protest to them getting two new cats. I thought that he might be better behaved if he was brought into a house with multiple cats already. So, I took him in on a trial basis.
The otther two cats have passed on but I've still got Mambo.

We got our cat from a friend. She was moving and could not take it with her. Not sure what kind she is. She is really old. She has been fixed and has had her front claws removed. My cat has got to where it seems to be going crazy. It has started to run all over the house and get on top of my tv. It has never done any for this til the last couple months.

I own three cat's. The oldest who is about fourteen was my husbands cat before we met. My second oldest I adopted from an animal shelter when she was about three years old. And my baby who is four is a purebreed scottish fold that I traveled to New Hampshire to get from a breeder.
