Nowadays, the obesity is the major problem. If we think over this subject, we can understand that advancing technology and style of living is driving the young generation to this type of problem like obesity. Though we can't call it a disease, it is an universal problem which causes many diseases. So parent should think over this and see that their children do not get this problem. They can do the following:
1. Make children spend certain time for playing outdoor games.
2. Giving food with needed calories.
3. Teaching the children about the obesity and help them to reduce untimely eating out.
4. Constantly telling them about the importance of physical exercise and encouraging them to be athlets and earn name for the nation.
5. Visiting doctors at periodic intervals and check the health including height and weight. Children should be taught about beauty of slim/moderate body structure.
6. Making children to have 7 hour sleeping syndrome regularly thus curtailing certain children habit of sleeping more than 10 hours. The sleeping time should be fixed as per prescription of doctors for children upto 5 years.
If these are followed, then the control of body will be in the hands of children and parent and obesity can be easily avoided.

Thanks for sharing those tips. I agree parents play a very big role in keeping their children healthy. Most parents think that fat children are cuter children but in the end their children are really unhealthy. I hope maore parents realize this.

hi. i agree with what you said. my mom when i was younger would panic if i lose weight. her perception of a healthy baby is a fat baby or toddler. until now, i am still battling with yo-yoing weight. it can be traced back to my mom overfeeding me. i feel bad about it but what can i do but to move forward.

if obesity isn't a disease, it should be recognized as one.
obesity is a condition that brings with it many diseases. it even can shorten life.
i have to admit when i was a child there were no computers, no handheld games and no being glued to a TV all day and night.
we were simply free to run and play.
obvioudly times have changed dramatically.
i believe good nutrition begins at home. we are our children's role models. they will mimic us.
sadly, many families have both parents who work. it is exhausting and stressful to plan, make meals and clean up 7 days a week. fast-food is horrible nutrition-wise and an easy way out to most parents.
there are slow cookers which can easily be used for a nutritious, well-balanced dinner. or grill meat and veggies when the weather permits.
i believe we need to prevent obesity BEFORE it begins. further, our relationship with food begins right at birth. food should never be a reward, nor should it be our enemy either.
your list is totally on target, too. thanks for posting it and welcome

Welcome to my lot and nice post.
I only have a problem with the tip on number 6.
Sleep is something that experts seems not to make up their minds on. I thought they say kids and teens need a lot of sleep, like more than 8 hours and now it is like 7?
Weird :)

First of all welcome to Mylot. Next up, that is a nice topic to begin your campaign on Mylot. Thanks for the tips. The only point where I would differ a bit is the visiting doctor part. Given that these days Doctors at least some of them are intent on making money more than anything this can be a costly affair both on your purse as well as the kids health.
Cheers!

hi there... obesity i agree is fast becoming a problem, especially in first world countries. i believe there should be discipline and self-control with people themselves not to overeat and regulate what they eat. i have read an article that says lack of sleep is one of the major factor in this problem that the hormone leptin could not suppress hunger anymore. so we need enough sleep and rest. just to strike a balance and everything in moderation. that's my 2 cents here. happy mylotting and welcome to mylot.

This is very informative and helpful. As you can see, many people are getting obese nowadays. One of the common factor is the kind of food we eat. Most especially that many of us are working and are usually going into this fastfood thing. Basically, it has given us more time but also give us more fats. The number one killer disease in the world right now is heart disease. One of the risk factors is obesity. It is timely for you to share how to avoid and prevent obesity. Great job!

hello there,
i agree to most part that you stated though i have to say that there are few that i want to add based on my own thoughts as well as experienced.
1. i believe that parents should not only say that they want their kids to be healthy, active, and all those stuff - parents should make sure that they are doing the same thing. being the kid's role model will enhance them to do the same thing and not just think that their parents are pushing them to do something but they are not doing the same thing - make it a family fun!
2. make your home a healthy place to live. dont over stock your home with foods that kids tend to eat all the time. in most cases kids sees a lot of food at home and that causes them to eat whatever they see at home. if they dont see a lot of junk foods and more fruits, they can either eat the fruits or just have a few bites of what is out there.
parents often skip the fact that they have to maintain a healthy set of foods at home and not much of frozen meals and junk foods as well.
3. it is also good to serve your kids a few slices of fruits during tv time., some kids dont even realize that they are eating foods when it is in front of them. it only takes a few bites and later it becomes a habit.
my hubby hates fruits but i set it in front of him anyway and he never fails to eat it all same goes with my neices when they come visit me or i come visit them.
4. try to make sure that you are making a home made food to them at dinner, no matter how busy you are make an adjustment to prepare it ahead of time so you dont have to rely on pre-made stuff as they often not as healthy as what you can really prepare at home.
also, dont prepare too much just make enough servings for the family coz it is better that way - they will eat less and wont waste so much food in the end.
5. a lot of families like to eat outside, i often notice that the family order each a meal and most servings are huge for one.
it will be best that the family will order enough meal and just have it as a shared one. you eat less and save a little (if not a lot over time). i said this coz often we tend to eat what ever is in front of us, if its almost a two serving meal we will eat it all and that will add up to the weight.
6. i know we cannot watch our kids 24/7 as they go to school, meet friends and be outside our radar but you have to understand that half of their lives are spend at your own watch as they stay in your home. if you can make a good habit at home. no matter how great the force outside is you can still balance it with what you give to them.
just my two cents.
takecare
