I took my husband on a surprise Sunday for a discover scuba glass. It was so awesome. We only got to swim in a small pool but they did a quick over view and then let you swim around and play in the pool. It is so weird at first because you see and hear all those bubbles and it sounds really load. It feels unnatural to be breathing under water. I have a hard time breathing through my mouth and even though I thought I was I was not. I was also breathing through my nose as well so I had nonstop bubbles going from my mask and regulator. Once the instructor told me that I had to breath through my mouth and I should only see bubbles when I breath out I started being aware of it. I asked him if I could hold my nose so that I could make myself breath through my mouth. He said during discover I could but if I took the actual course I would not be allowed to then. That helped. I held my nose shut for a few minutes and then once I let go I was able to then breath through my mouth without holding my nose shut. He then showed us how to clear our mask out, clear out he regulator, how to handle an out of air situation, find your regulator should you ever lose it from your mouth in two ways. It was so much fun. I did get a little sick feeling by the end of the class and he says that it was probably nerves. He said that once I got comfortable with scuba that would probably go away. He said that I could take something for motion sickness though if I wanted. I think when I take the real class I will take the motion sickness pill so that I am able to enjoy it so much more. If you have ever wanted to try scuba check your local dive shops they probably offer a discover scuba class at a reasonable price. Ours was advertised at 40.00 a person but he gave it to us at no cost because after talking to us he knew we would love it so much that we would join his class. He was right. My hubby is signed up for the next class and next spring I will be signing up for my class.

I'm so glad that your hubby got to go after all and that you went, too, and had a good time!

Thanks so much. It was one of the highlights of my life for sure. I think if I ever get to go to the ocean and really do it that will top it off. I know my husband is just excited to get to scuba even if it is only the lake. He can not wait to try the ocean also but he loves to swim and snorkel so I think he will scuba even if it is just around here. I don't think I will get into as much as him but maybe one never knows.

Wow, that really sounds awesome. How I wish I could also try that ;O) I live near the sea but have not tried scuba diving yet ;O) I might try it out if only I do not mitral valve prolapse and afraid that I might collapse in the water. You're lucky, though. Have fun!

How wonderful to get to live by the sea. I am so sorry though that health prevents you from trying scuba. Maybe you could see your doctor and they could check you over and see if it will be okay to do it.

I am so glad that you and your husband enjoyed your discover scuba course in a pool. I can imagine that you felt a bit sickly because you were nervous. Once you scuba dived in an ocean with colorful coral and friendly fish I am sure that you would feel relaxed. Just like wearing contact lenses it must take time to get used to all the equipment needed for scuba diving. I met divers going scuba trips in the North Sea. I would prefer to do a scuba diving course in a tropical location. I love to go snorkeling and have done this in Australia, French Polynesia, the Cook Islands, the Seychelles, the Maldives, Samoa and Belize. I have seen small sharks, a manta ray, a turtle and sting rays. I dream about seeing a sea horse one day. I have pressure problems when I fly but a My Lot friend told me I might be able to scuba up to 10 meters below quite safely. I would so love to do a discover scuba course to see if it suits me. As I adore snorkeling I think I might really like to try out scuba diving. Good luck with your next scuba diving course. It would be lovely to hear how you and your husband getting on learning how to scuba dive.
