For years I lived in Germany and somedays I miss it more than I can stand. I was wondering if any of you are missing places you use to live? I loved the old cities and villages especially during the holidays when everything is white and clean. I really miss going junking. I miss the festivals; Munich is alive with celebration in October. I miss the Alps too, they are so beautiful. the worst thing about live in the states again is that I've almost lost all my german. As poorly as I spoke it, I think I miss speaking german more than anything.

Lol, I miss Germany, too. I was born there. Fortunately there are some Germans here in town and I get to visit every so often;)
Und man muss nicht unbedingt in Deutschland sein um Deutsch zu reden. Es gibt viele Deutsche Clubs here in den USA;)

I left Germany when I was 4, and I'm now a grandmother. I still remember the smells and tastes, of my Oma grinding coffee beans in this little wooden grinder, of the smell of red cabbage and pork cooking, of the taste of strawberry icecream. Oh boy!!!

It is just something you cannot forget! My mother moved to Germany in her mid-sixties and fell in love with the country. She was there for about ten months, having to return home due to my older sister's illness, but she never lost the desire and wish to return. Brochen was her favorite food, we lived across the strasser von dir backeri and she visited it everyday like a true native. She and my landland's mother(Oma)loved to talk shop about gardening. Yes, I will always remember fondly the wonder sounds and smells of Germany; but boy is my German rusty! LOL

I understand completely what you are speaking of! I miss it terribly as well! I LOVED the holiday times and heading into town for all the various activities there. And I always felt so safe no matter what time of day! I also loved the traveling over there. We went to so many countries and did things that other people only dream of. I cried when we had to leave and my heart still aches to go back there. It was such a wonderful time in my life and I will never forget the wonderful things Germany offered us. Hoping to go back there one day!!

I am sorry for the long delay in responding but I have been in the middle of a big move. Germany is most beautiful during the holidays with its white lights all aglow against rolling white backdrops of glistening snow. The parties and festivals liven up each village like a carnival. It is a time when neighbors greet and meet one another with warm regards. I do so miss it! I am planning on returning, even if only once, to revisit the land of dreams and fairy-tales; Germany is truly hauntingly charming. Hope you return someday too.
