Lost for a year and now she's home.

When we moved into this new house our chocolate calico Michelle ran away. The neighbors told us that the gator in the pond behind our house probably got her. We were all heart broken. Well tonight after being gone for just over a year she showed up outside the house! I didn't believe it at first till I got up close. The tail was broke in the same spot, same colors, and to top it off she was still wearing her flea collar. And she remembers all of us.
She was wild when we found her and never would stay in a house, that has not changed but I still have her bed and I'm going to put it outside after this storm passes.
I don't know where she has been but I am so glad she is home.

I know exactly how you are feeling right now, well, except for the being glad part! We moved here last year in May. My husband has this really nasty cat that he literally raised from a baby. He made a video of himself bottle feeding this kitten.
But she is one nasty #@%$^&!!! She attacks for no reason. Of course, my husband has always played very rough with her so she probably thinks she's playing, but I don't call it playing when flesh is torn and blood gushes out!!!
Anyway, she was always an indoor cat until we moved here. There is very little chance of her being hit by a car because we live on a private road with very little traffic. What traffic there is goes very slowly and it is a long road. So, we let her outside.
She loved it!!! But one day, not long after we moved here, she just vanished. My husband swore that she had been hit by a car or a wild animal had gotten her. I told him not to worry because, if she was attacked by a wild animal, SHE would win that fight! Also that there was such a slim chance of her getting hit by a car. I said she was probably being fed and maybe even housed by a neighbor.
He was upset but I was secretly VERY GLAD that she was gone! It's horrible to live with a cat that you have to worry about attacking you every time you are within 15 feet of it! Even my dogs steer clear of that cat and she only weighs about four pounds!!!
Anyway, about three months later, she just showed up, demanded food and curled up and went to sleep as though she had never been away at all. And she was very fat! Not pregnant, just obviously well-fed.
We later learned that a neighbor had been feeding her. We don't know where she had been sleeping, but she had been eating very well.
I have since chased her around the house, shaking a plastic grocery bag at her. This was right after she attacked me again. I had had enough and the closest thing to me was the plastic bag. She obviously did not like it because she'd run every time I got close. Since that time, she has 'respected' me! She doesn't attack me any more. She is one warped cat!

I'm glad she came home. A lot of times if you move and don't keep the outside cat in for a while, they don't necessarily know where they live. My guess is that she's been in the area and just now found the scent of what she remembers.
Take care with that storm!

Thanks. The storm should be pretty easy it is already starting to lose strength. As long as it doesn't decide to go back out to water again. I just don't want to put her bed out and have it blow away or get ruined.
I guess you were right because my daughter was out walking and the cat found her about 3 doors down, then she just followed her home.

We used to have an inside cat that was really sweet, but dumb. She got out in a blinding rainstorm and was running down the middle of the street in a blind panic until she heard her name. then she turned and came running in. she looked like a drowned mess!

Wow that is so amazing! I bet you're so glad to have her back. Maybe she came home because of the storm lol. I hope the storm moves out fast for you all. Has it started yet?

That stupid storm missed us and now it's headed back. This thing just won't die! And it's causing a lot of flooding on the other coast. I'm really hoping that it misses us again. I's barely moving so it just sits there and dumps tons of rain. I do not like swimming enough to be doing it in my living room.

That is really cool congratulations. I had a cat that disappeared one time. I dont know whatever happened to him. We moved a few months after he was lost, I wonder what would have happened if we had stayed there. I wonder if he would have showed back up.My current kitty was an outside cat when I first got him and always tries to get out, but I dont let him. I couldnt bear to lose this little guy.

My cat was gone for only a WEEK and I was in a KNOT about it! I was THRILLED when she came home, injured though she was, but she's back to health now.
They say Home is where the heart is... well... she knows where her heart is, and she is HOME now!
Congratulations and many thanks to God for leading her HOME.

Hello freedomg,
Wow! that is a amazing story, the poor little cat, must have got lost or taken away some whereelse and made her journey back to you, cats do that sometimes, at least she is home and dry, please leave he indoors for a while so she will feel its really home.

I wish I could. She will only walk in the front door a few feet and if you try to shut it she goes crazy and starts tearing things up. She was wild when we found her and we just can't get that part gone. But she has her bed on the back porch and her food and water bowls that the other cats won't even look at and has been very happy to stick close by. I think she learned her lesson about wandering off. Thanks for posting.

That really is good news. Makes you wonder where she was all that time. If they could only talk. She must have been gettin fed somewhere. Kind of reminds me of the Disney movie Tomasina. I always liked that movie. Anyway enjoy your cat. Hopefully she will stay put this time.

Wow! She must have had 10 lives...! lol JK. I'm glad your kitty is home, I had a midnight black cat that disappeared and we never seen her again either, we live in a rural area and I think something got her. :( She's been gone a few years now and if I do see her again... i'd probably be freaked out. :)

Never know someone may have found her and had her locked up and treating her as their pet and she may have just gotten free. Thats what someone did to our dog when we were younger. We could hear him barking in the distance but we couldn't find him. Then after few months I guess they got tired of his barking or he got free and found his way home. Animals are amazing on how they can find their way back to the people they know really love them. Glad your cat Michelle made it back home and the gator in the back didn't get her.

I think that it was a combination of all the houses looking the same here (we had always lived in the country before no confusion there) and maybe a neighbor started feeding her. We do feel very lucky and happy to have her back though my other two cats are jealous of all the attention she's getting. We'll have to make it up to them.Maybe we'll get them some more catnip bubbles they love them and it's too funny to watch.
