An athlete can get much more pride others don't have, while he may go through much more pains others don't suffer. Being a parent, we must be proud of him while we can worry more as well. To be or not to be is really a question. If given the chance to be an excellent athlete, will you make your kid one? Why or why not? Thank you.

if i'm going to have my own family or children, i will train them to be as an athlete.. a swimmer or table tennis maybe. i want my child to be an athlete coz what you have said, it's a pride. & also my child will also compete not only in our country but his/her competitors are from different countries which is good

hello..i think i wont make my children an athletes..i believe that behind a successful athlete, there are more tears, stress and pain..training for years long just for a few minutes of competition..lee chong wei versus lin dan in the oplympic badminton final make me feel more agree with my point..whole country put their hope on lee chong wei..every ball he miss bring more stress on him.it's really hard to be an good athlete..furthermore,if i make my children an athlete means that they need to spend lesser time in their study...how if one day they get injured or fail in their sport or competition?they can do nothing else in the future..so,for me its quite risky for making my children an athlete..maybe i am the type of person to wish for a simple and happy life so i try to avoid from any risky chance for my children life.however,i don't deny that its good to let my children know some sports in order to build a healthy body and as a hobby.
happy mylotting!

Yes, i definitely will ^_^ I would rather them to be out in the sun always than to be sitting down in front of the computer or tv everyday ^_^
BEing an athlete requires them to be very disciplined and it takes alot of determination and self belief =D Everything about being an athlete will do them good as they grow up.. Even when they decide not to compete in world stages, it's ok as all the self discipline and good things have been instilled in them..
it's up to them whether they wanna explore it further and bring it to a higher level ^_^

I have 4 kids. 3 Biological kids and one step son. All 3 of them have or are playing sports. I feel it is important to introduce sports and culture to a childs life so that they can try differant things and decide what they like and find what they are good at.
I do not believe in asking them,,, would you like to play basketball or baseball or dance. After all, a young child has no idea if they like somthing that they have never done.
Some kids are just naturally more athletic.

Define athlete? You mean the ones who compete professionally?
Well if that is what you mean, then NO. I will make them involve into sports, I'll even join them. But having them compete professionally is all up to them. I've tried different sports, I'll have them involved too whether they like it or not.

yes, i'd love for my kids to become athletes. lol.
it's healthy. plus, it builds confidence.
but i'd only let them be athletes if they, themselves also want to be one.
if not, then i wouldn't mind academic excellence to be prevalent in them. ehhe..
