Hello everyone!
I'm using avast!.
It's free for home users and it's working perfectly well.
I use it for about 2 years.
Free and automatic updates.
It's light and discovers virus, worms, some types of spyware, etc.
Very good Anti-Virus.

I just took McAfee off my laptop. I have paid subscription for years. When I took my PC in for repairs this week, I was told the reason my PC was so slow was due to McAfee and how much space it took..(it uses a lot of space). I have AVG and my computer is running much better, I was also informed of a malicious site with AVG (McAfee has a wonderful version). So, although I have recently renewed, I uninstalled it. You MUST have an anti viral on your PC. You're asking for trouble without it.

you're playing with fire not using an anti-virus.
if you pick up some of the viruses going around now days the least of your worries might be your computer slowing down.
there's things out there that will totally reconfigure and possibly disable your system FOREVER!!!
i use Avira.....it's free and it doesn't slow down your computer like a lot of the other anti-viruses.
good luck running your computer with no protection.

I'm using AVG8. It also slowed down my PC but for a better security of my PC, it's better to slow down because there's an AV installed rather than slow down due to virus attacks. Have you think before that not installing an AV may harm your computer? Most of computer users in my attending school are having this bad trait which is the top reason why there's a lot to complain about on PCs there. Not having an AV is not the solution for performance boost, that should not be sacrificed and buy an extra RAM instead.

Actually i'm using McAfee.this is really good.this warns about all the site when we r searching something using a search engine.it either puts a tick mark or cross mark or ? mark respectively saying safe, unsafe ,not yet tested.depending which we can take a decision either to go into it or not.

i use avira antivirus. i really hate how it slows down the computer when it's updating but it's something that i have to tolerate since i have to protect the pc from viruses as much as possible. i've used different antivirus programs too like mcafee, avg, avast..and this is the latest one. i might try another one and see if it uses less memory. i'd love to uninstall my av but i can't risk my computer's security :(

I us Avast home version which is completely free and updates 2 or 3 times a day.
it only slows my PC when it's scanning or when it's updating the version or AV database. If you have a AV program that doesn't slow your PC at least a little then chances are it's because it's not doing a very thorough job.
and yes there are things out there that will wipe your harddrive totally(just because they can) or screw your OS up so bad as to make it useless, effectively disableing it. Mac's aren't as bad but I would never run an IBM without some sort of virus,,worm,,trojan,,browser hijacker etc etc protection.
good luck!!

I am using AVG (currently version 8.0)...My best advice is to experiment with different ones, and to make sure that it runs scans only when you are not using your computer.

You're not using an anti-virus? And, you are online right now? Wow! You're brave! I guess that's the golden rule, you should always have some kind of anti-virus on your system before you go online. Anyway, I'm currently using AVG 8.0 and I'm very pleased with this product. You can type in AVG in your search engine and you should find the relevant site at the top of your list. There are probably a number of different factors that can cause your computer to run slow, it's not necessarily related to anti-virus software. The AVG 8.0 anti-virus software is free by the way. I suggest you download this and get your computer protected. As regards your computer running slow, that's another issue which I'm sure you can get help with here. I would be happy to give you some tips. Anyhow, good luck, get that protection on your computer. Andrew
