Soapy Gravy - What is the worst meal you have ever cooked? LOL

Must be something to do with the nickname bubbles, but I have two jugs, one I use to make my gravy in and the other I use for the water that goes into the iron. Well cooking dinner the other day I must have got them mixed up and the strangest of flavours appeared in the gravy, the meat pie and potatoes were lovely but what was this strange taste and then it dawned on me as I quite often put a bit of fragrance into the water to freshen up any clothes at the bottom of the pile. So we enjoyed a lovely dinner (NOT LOL) of soapy gravy!
What cooking disasters have you ever done and had to eat that someone else has cooked?
Ellie :D

Hi Ellie have to admit I don't cook that much at all now!! a few years ago I was a nanny and was looking after two young boys and my own two as well..it was a sunny day and they were playing in the garden I
had their dinner on and was grilling some bacon for them then looed out the kitchen window and one of the boys was climbing up my washing line pole...needless to say I went loopy with them and when I came back the bacon was burnt! I put in front of all the children and made them eat it think it taught them a lesson though---NOT to get me angry Huggles littleowl

LOL, I thought coffee was just a ploy!! You mean you really tried to make her one, yuk, easy done. I don't know how the jugs got confused as always in totally separate cupboards, a senior moment I guess but I definitely had my mouth washed out and I haven't even been swearing a lot lately! Ellie :D

I do actually, I am a wicked mum and put fairy liquid on Jacobs tongue when he came home from nursery one day and used a swear word (he had warnings first ofcourse) and I did the same to Jess when she was little only she called my bluff and said she liked it so she got mustard instead. My children don't swear, I wonder why? Ellie :D

soapy gravy! I can imagine t!
As for myself once I emptied a small bottle of vinegar instead of rose water (both were unlabeled, hence the confusion and even if it was when you would do the blunder - no one can stop you...lol..). It was supposed to be a sweet dish with milk, rose water. I was expecting some visitors and guess what the whole milk went curdish and I had to abort the item totally. It felt very bad for that was a delicacy and I prepare it really well!
Huggles.

Mmmm...I happy to say I've never had soapy gravey...LOL. There was a "disaster" of sorts when my mom was a young girl. You see it was my great-grandmother, mother and mother were all living together. From the story told me, my great-grandmother had the habit of putting soap flake detergent into small glass jars..BUT...she also put freshly grated Parmesan cheese in glass jars also....I think you know where this is heading...so one day my mother grabs one of the jars thinking it's the Parmesan cheese and sprinkles it on her spaghetti....up until her dying day my mother would NEVER touch Parmesan cheese ever again even if it clearly said it was Parmesan cheese...

Nope don't think there was anything wrong with the duck that the cats wouldn't eat it...my two fussies don't eat human food anymore like they used to when I had more cats...I've spoiled them now with Fancy Feast and that's all they eat now...LOL. I feel the same way about geese and pheasants...I love geese and have shot some...uh, with my camera only!!!!...I love them and could never eat them either. One Christmas I did decide to be fancy smanchy though and got pheasant to fix for Christmas dinner...didn't mind it....but then some time later I saw how beautiful those birds are and would never eat them again even if you gave me a million dollars.

Oh, okay. I didn't figure that out on my own. I guess in our family we have pretty much just used the pans we cook in for serving dishes unless we are having guests. But then we have gravy boats or small bowls to put the gravy in. So I never figured out what you meant. Sorry.

Hey Ellie.
I don't know how I missed this discussion of yours! But, I have thought and thought and I can't think of anything too horrible that I've tried to serve to my husband or anyone else. Oh, there was one time when I wanted a specific kind of fish for guests and sent my husband to the seafood shop. When he returned, it looked like a different kind of fish but I cooked it anyway. After all, I had 7 guests to feed.
So, I baked the fish like I always do, and it was tasteless and as tough as shoe leather! I was kind of embarrassed and apologized over and over. Even my husband says, "Her fish is usually just delicious, this was a different kind of fish." My brother-in-law piped in and said, "I think you cooked it too long." I wanted to harm him!
Anyhoo, I got through that one, so it was probably the worst. I really can't make myself eat something that is undercooked or seems "gross" to me, I just wouldn't be able to do it, no matter who cooked it.
But, I told my husband your soapy gravy story, and we both laughed and laughed! Take care. Oh, and huggles.

Hi ellie, how are you? Well my first disaster is when I tried making cabbage. Now for all those out there who cook cabbage, you know it makes it's own water. But at the time I didn't know it and so I added water to the cabbage. Needless to say, it was a complete mess. It wasn't edible at all ellie.
Take care and God Bless!

Hi
Well , I would have to say the worst meal I made is a pot roast . It was the first week in my new apt and I made a huge roast dinner in a pot . I never sheared the meat . Then put it in the oven covered and never added water . It burnt a hole right in the pot/pan .
The worse meal I ever ate was something of my grams . It was swiss steak with cat food in it . My gram cut up some veggies and had a thick chunky gravy sitting kinda on a plate . she was somewhat blind and grabbed the cats food and added that in . my mom ate some and knew and then we knew . then noone would eat it and she got all mad at us all .

well, my mom never taught me to cook and i think mothers should. when i was first married, i cooked some beans how a friend told me but she forgot to tell me how much salt to add. i added a tablespoon thinking that'd be right. my hubby got home, i served him first(we did sometimes in those days) he smiled and slowly got the meal down. and went outside to smoke. i sat down and tasted the beans and OMG! they were horrible. i went out and found him throwing up behind a bush. i asked why didnt you tell me. he said he didnt want to hurt my feelings.

When I was a young married and very poor lady, I got a real bargin on canned fish
and made a noodle and fish casserole for dinner, I hadn't read the label, it was salt mackrel and it was so salty we couldn't eat it. Peanut butter and jelly sandwiches for us that night. There have been other close calls but none that just couldn't be eaten, Now I think I'm a pretty good cook but I always read labels.

I suck at cooking chicken. there were a couple of times i messed up. Once i was cooking two chicken wings on the pan and i figured the chicken was done. I fixed my plate and sat down to eat. after one bite i spit it out. i could taste blood and i looked down to where i bit it. i realized the blood was still in there. i threw the chicken away and drank plenty of water. that was the last time i made chicken.

Hi Lanlan, Just cook the chicken really slowly, I tend to use chicken fillet and chop into small strips or chunks and it cooks quicker and you are less likely to cook wrong. On the bone is not see easy. I won't be making soapy gravy again either just like you don't cook chicken. Thanks for sharing. Ellie :D

Oh dear Ellie I hope you didn't drink lots of water after that or you would have been foaming at the mouth! lol It was an easy mistake to make though and I guess we have all done things like that! I have had too many cooking disasters to go into I am afraid - like putting sugar into the mashed potatoes instead of salt - not nice! lol xxx

Oh, that's just nasty. The image of it made me sick.
I can't think of anything like that recently. I do however, remember one from childhood.
My mother made me peanutbutter and marshmallow sandwiches as treats for school.
One day, she accidentally put mayonoise on mine while making my brothers meat and moyonaise sandwich. Needless to say: yuck!

my worst that I did would have to be when I didnt realize that the noodles were done (our stove gets hot pretty fast and I didnt know it as it was new) and the noodles were so glued together cause they were so overcooked I threw the whole thing away.
I am picky when it comes to other people cooking food for me so I have a lot of examples of what other people have cooked, I just dont know where to start lol
