It is hard to believe that summer is almost over and school will be starting soon. Are you ready for it? I have my oldest starting his technical college classes next week and my daughter starts her freshman year in High School the week after. I am so not ready for this. I enjoy the lazy days of summer. I'm not ready to get them out the door by 7 AM. My daughter has to ride the school bus for over an hour and this scares me because she has an Inflammatory Bowel Disease which means that her stomach gets upset and the ride really bothers her. I am hoping to get a job either in the town where she goes to school or the neighboring town so that I can possibly drive her in. I'm not ready to call the secretary to say that she isn't coming in because she is sick (had to do this 44 times last year). I know if it gets too tough this year I will consider homeschooling. My stomach is in knots thinking about school starting.
I hope that you all are more ready than I am!!!
Here's to a good school year for all.

I pray good luck for you - must be hard. My kids are grown so I dont' think much about school these days. My 3rd grade GD - I only have her a little to deal with school. I heard tho that many school districts back east are going to a 4 day school week due to the gas for the school buses being so high - something like $51,000 a month for gas!
I did enjoy buying the school supplies for my kids tho - limited income so when those sales would hit, I let them have at it for wahtever they wanted.
Yesterday I was at Target and a mom and little boy were kind of doing that and I just watched and remembered then when she got a little short with the child as he wanted something she didn't think he needed, I mentioned to her "enjoy it while it lasts, I sure miss doing this with my kids". She looked at me like a calf looking at a new fence... I didn't care. SHe'll remember that day and my comment in 20 years!

I can see it both ways - those parents that work, have to find day care of the one day with no school. But since many companies have gone to 4, 10 hours days, this might help more do that and help all around. On the other hand, the article said it would add 10 minutes to each class each day which would extend the school day at least an hour, older kids could handle it, but the younger ones, not sure how they;d do! But I know the teachers would complain at a longer day!

You must live in the South. In our state all the public schools start the day after labor day. The other schools can start earlier. How much time do they get off for summer break? I am a weird Mom that would just like summer to go on forever (even if they do say they are bored once in awhile).

This year we have a really long summer break, from July to mid September. I study a little by myself and watch Olympic Games. I just get used to the summer break, when the college begins I'll surely have a heavy schedule every day.
As for you, maybe you can find someone to accompany your daughter to school, like community volunteer? Good luck for you!

Hope your schedule isn't too bad for you. My son has a great beginning for his tech school classes. He only has class on Tuesday & Thursday. This is because he had already taken 2 classes online to help him get an elective at High School that he was missing. So his first semester will be great. Next semester he will have more classes and it will be more difficult. But I am glad that he doesn't have much for this semester so that it will kind of ease him into things.
I wish there was a community volunteer but we live in a small town (pop 120) and they don't have anythng like that. It was a good thought though.
Have a good school year.

You will do great I am sure. I know once it starts we will be ready because we have to be, right??!! I hope that you have a good year at college. And do try to enjoy your college year too. It can be a fun time in your life that goes by very fast.
Good Luck.
