Are miracles relevant for today's church?

When I read the book of Acts, the signs, wonders, healings, etc, it makes my heart burn to see these things in today's church. Isn't that what Jesus wants??? He used signs, wonders, and healings to prove He was the Son of God. Then, on the day of Pentecost, He gave the power and authority to His disciples to do the same thing. In Acts 2 Jesus says...In the last days I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your young men will see visions, your old men will dream dreams. Even on my servants, both men and women, I will pour out my Spirit in those days, and they will prophesy. I will show wonders in the heaven above and signs on the earth below... What does this mean for us?? And what about Mark 16:17-18 And these signs will accompany those who believe: In My Name they will drive out demons; they will speak in new tongues; they will pick up snakes with their hands; and when they drink deadly poison, it will not hurt them at all; they will place their hands on sick people, and they will be healed. Does anyone else believe that God wants these things for His church TODAY?

If there is anyone who wants to read about miracles in today's world, they need to read my story. It is just about miracles in my adult life. The book is called,"Looking Up When Your Circumstances Have You Down." A story of miracles and the sustaining power of Jesus Christ. Go to www.authortree.com/miracles. You can also find it on Amazon and B&N. Nanikj

I'm sorry but I don't agree with this, entirely. Jesus commissioned US to GO YE AND DO THESE THINGS! I think it is deception for the church to just sit back and wait for God to act. He gave us the authority on the earth! I do believe that there are signs and wonders that God will perform in these last days, but as for healings and miracles, it's up to us!

Yes I believe that God wants these things in todays church. The churches have went into the wilderness so to speak and I believe that the later reign church (the church at the end of days) will have everything the first churches had also. I don't think we should try and force it like snake handling as that may be tempting God but thats my feelings. I do believe their are healings by the laying on of hands where there is strong faith.

Thank you for your response! I agree that today's church is in the wilderness. It seems as if we have forgotten our first love! I also agree that forcing things, like snake handling, is risky business! God will not be mocked! I believe that healing will become a trademark of the church in the last days. I know that it happens today, just not as often as it should! There is a revival going on in Florida right now! Fresh Fire Ministries in Lakeland Florida, Pastor Todd Bentley. I've been following some of their articles. Even the newspapers are picking up their amazing healings!! Praise God!

Evan,
I agree with you about the churches in the last days. I believe at some point this world is going to get into such a mess that many people will have to turn to God in order to survive. This worls is in pretty bad shapenow but you can bet your sweet bippy it will get a lot worse before it is all said and done. I believe God will just let man continue untill evil destroys it's self.

I agree as well, that miracles are for His church today. I believe that, as time goes on and things become less stable and more critical, more and more miracles will be evident because we will have to lean on God more and more.
We don't "need" God (we think) in prosperous times. We have doctors and lawyers and bricklayers and taxi cab drivers to do whatever we want or need, but when the chips are down and we realize that our very lives are in God's hands, then miracle will come.
God said that when we seek Him with all our hearts, He will be found. And He is the source of the miracles we look for.

HIS church being the people, I do believe that is what GOD wants. I believe we have miracles, I believe we prophesy, see visions, etc. I think we err in that we look for it to happen within the confines of a religious sect, or a building in which we assemble to worship. I believe the power of GOD exists more in ordinary people who just live out their daily lives whether they attend church or not, whether they prescribe to a particular religion or not. The bible says "Greater works than these will YOU do". That means me and you. He says "Pray in secret and I will reward you openly". The promises in the Bible do happen today, we just may not be realizing it.

YES! Thank you for your response. I agree that God cares less about denomination than we do. There are Christians from all denominations going to heaven and hell!! I do think these things are happening today randomly. But I want to see the whole world come to an awareness, with NO doubts, that Jesus IS LORD!! He said He would not come back until the Gospel had been preached to all nations. Do we have a responsibility, then, in determining when He comes back for us? Do you think the date has already been set, or is He waiting for all things to be fulfilled before He comes back?
