i came across with that really much in school someone says you `how are you` and dont listen to the answer i really get angry when it happens to me ok people might be busy not enough time to listen you but then why are they asking `how are you` to be gentle i think they be more rude in that way, anyway i want to ask you that Do you know how many people say, "how are you?" and don't listen to the answer? or are you one of them or is that also happened to you?
happy mylottings

It seems to be a polite greeting, and I agree with you, for many people it is just an automatic response to seeing someone. They don't even think about what they're saying, don't wait for a response and sometimes don't even seem to know you're there. I also agree it is more polite to just say Hi or Hello and not ask if you're really interested.
