Okay, here are my 2 favorite movies. The original 'STAR WARS' trilogy and 'THE LORD OF THE RINGS' trilogy. Both had very good story lines, full of action, and great special effects. But I have always liked STAR WARS better. It has been my favorite since I was a kid. Also, this was the movie that openede the door for the special effects aspect of movie making that we see in movies.Plus the greatest, most surprising, and possibly most memorable scene in movie history is when Darth Vader revealed to Luke Skywalker that he was his father. What's your take?

Oh my gosh...I do not think I can answer this. Both Star Wars and The Lord of the Rings trilogies were "frickin" awesome! I loved them both...and enjoy them in different ways.
I agree with you about the Star Wars trilogy - I remember seeing that scene between Darth Vader and Luke Skywalker and thinking "No way!"...it brought the relationship between Darth and Luke into a completely new light...it brought the relationship between good and evil into a new light...it was mind blowing and yet made the whole story line that much better! I am not sure if this will make sense but watching Star Wars makes me feel nostalgic - I have a sense of innocence and security...probably because it reminds me of my childhood (since I was a kid when the Star Wars epics came out).
The Lord of the Rings on the other hand gives me a sense of the power of evil...the complexity of evil. Since I was an adult and could comprehend some of the more subtle and complex story lines and yet how they are interrelate and inter-mingle with each other. These stories and the movies BLOW me away. As an adult it takes a bit more to "take" me to another world (entirely)...and these movies not only took me there...but I felt a part of the epic battle (like they were fighting for humanity or something). That is quite a feat! Not to mention the languages, the beauty of the scenery, the special effects...(yeah...I noticed...mentioned them).
Both trilogies are amazing and I agree with the person who mentioned it is like comparing apples and oranges. I own both sets...and I enjoy both sets...for many of the same reasons and yet in many different ways. I am so happy that I do not have to choose. Although you asked which trilogy wins...I believe both win! And I am lucky enough to enjoy both winners!
GREAT discussion! I enjoyed it! THANKS!

I just loved your response. You see these movies exactly as I do.Especially about seeing STAR WARS as a kid. Then seeing LOTR as an adult and understanding the conflict of good vs. evil. Both of these stories take me to a different place where I let my imagination have its way.I've never known anyone to see thes movies the exact same wat I saw them.I for one could go on talking about them all day.

I am with you...I probably could talk about them all day...however; I would rather watch them all day. ;-)
I also agree...LOTR really does need to be read. I LOVED the book(s) too. What an AMAZING story and EXTREMELY talented writer! Where did he come up with all that? I also appreciated Peter Jackson's take on Tolkien's story - (Lord knows I would never be able to put words on a page into an outstanding film.)
Well...I won't bore you any further. Just wanted to add those few comments and thank you for your response! Take care and ENJOY the movie! :-)

Hey there, great response!I couldn't agree with you more,LOTR NEEDS to be read in order to really appreciate the story. Also, except for Gandalf,Samwise,Saruman and other 'supporting' characters such as Eomer,I thought that most of the main characters were very poorly represented by the actors who played them.I especially got tired of Gimli's silli little antics. And Aragorn looked like a lttle wimp rather than one of a line of noble kings.

I liked Lord of the Ring alaot more. I never really liked the Star Wars Epics that much I dont know if I have even seen them all. I am one of the few people I know who did not like them, Lord of the Rings and the other two movies were way better in my opinion. They were well acted and I loved the fantasy world that was created.

"Star Wars" gets my vote, hands down! As a groundbreaking film in so many ways, I think it deserves the praise that it gets. Don't get me wrong, LOTR was awe-inspiring, but it's not something you can just sit down in the afternoon and watch "just because." You have to have an entire day to devote to it just to get the full effect.

My favorite trilogy is one you haven't mentioned- The Matrix, of which I know every word. Of the two you mentioned both of which are good, I'd have to go with the original Star Wars.

I saw both of the trilogy and Lord of The Ring got my vote. I like it more for two reason. First I watched it with my youngest brother (who passed away before the last series, and my wife took his place and sleep in the cinema...LOL), so one of my memories with my late brother was LOTR. Secondly it looked more 'real' than Star Wars. Anyway both of them are amazing...

I like Lord of the rings because the movie is grand, not because of the moral issue it presents. The effects are great and the movie was very entertaining for me. Another trilogy I liked is Pirates of the Caribbean. I just can;t get enough of Orlando Bloom and Johny Depp. Oh my, I have a huge crush on Orlando Bloom actually.

Neither. The Matrix Trilogy wins all. I mean that trilogy made history. With the slow movements, and special moves, I give all respect to them. Sometimes, I wonder if the matrix is real. That is a very deep psychological movie.

Star Wars is a tad more entertaining to watch. LotR was a better film, imo. LotR is great because there's a lot going on, a lot more plots and detail talking movies, here. It's more involved. It's almost as if arguing apples and oranges. They both have their tastes.
Considering the amount of Sci-Fi Medieval TV Series on air almost none? compared to Sci-Fi Space Fighting shows on air you can at least start counting, probably hit 2 hands it's pretty logical.
You can catch 30 minutes of Star Wars and be satisfied. You can catch 30 minutes of LotR, but before you sit down, you have to judge if you'll have time to sit down for another hour and a half

Ok..Staying with THESE Trilogies (as opposed to taking in other Movie Series' I've enjoyed,ie,"Back to the Future","Blade","Alien","Terminator",The Matrix","The Mummy","Die Hard"....(among others!)
I was a teenager when "Star Wars" Came out first, and have to admit it was I think the first Movie I went "Fanboy" over! I really Enjoyed the Original Trilogy at the time. And then they brought out the "Second" Trilogy..and went back and Re-Edited the Original Movies, adding more fx..
Then LOTR made it to the screen..Having grown up reading the books,it was amazing to see it up there (with a few plot tweaks and character shuffles to get the most there!)
As a Book to Movie transfer, there were some edits and omissions fans could argue over..As a Movie, putting myself in the seat of a Movie fan who'd never read one of the books,it was Amazing! Both Series' have their fans..I'm fortunate enough to have been a fan of both, having seen both first time around..Both have their place in Movie History, but the Genre differences between them, for Me,prevent them being compared side by side. if I had to choose,I'd have to go with LOTR as the more consistently good series-I've only bought the Extended box sets of this trilogy as yet..

I agree Star Wars was a very good trilogy especially with the twist on darth vader. Although both tackled on the struggle of staying I'd say Star Wars was better because of the Jedi.
