How often do we go around unaware that we're frowning because of some problems/thoughts that is preoccupying us? Sometimes we are not conscious that we are spreading our gloomy countenance to everyone we meet.
Just this morning, as I came out of the hospital - groggy, tired and sleepy; I met a young girl, who gave me the sweetest smile. I didn't know her, but I smiled back at her and was still smiling when I met another woman, who smiled back at me because she thought I was smiling at her..(lol)...
I was thinking it was like a chain reaction..I'm sure the woman who smiled back will smile at another person in return and the chain will go on and on.
We have your own problems for sure. Who hasn't? But it's our choice to reduce them to the size we want them to be. It is just a matter of perception. Don't think the problem is big, think that you are bigger than your problem. And don't forget to smile - a very simple act that could cheer someone.
I don't have to tell you, it costs less muscles to smile than to frown. Spread the word of cheer- SMILE.
Do you have any similar experiences that you would like to share? We would be grateful if you can share them.

Reading your discussion post actually made me smile!
I am aware that smiling is a very positive thing to do. I like to give a smile and receive one in exchange.
I know that if I have something on my mind I look very stern, so I try to think about good things, which will make me smile.
When I am out and thinking about something nice I get more smiles, because people think I'm smiling at them as I pass by.
A smile costs nothing but has great value.

I do not have such experience but I think 'Smile an Everlasting Smile' is a great remedy to most of the problems we face. It also helps in de-stressing a lot.

Yes, smiling is a very nice thing for people who are down. I have always heard, if you have a smile, give it to someone else.
It is hard to believe that something so simple can help a person in just a split second.
I am glad that you were able to give a smile to someone else today.

My Mom has been a long time believer of smiling at people. And it is a chain reaction. You smile at a person and than they smile at someone else and on down the road. I have gotten my philosophy from my Mom. I always smile and say hi to people. One of the things when you smile at someone you are acknowleding them as a human being. The reaction I get when I smile at a person is a smile back. And I do this as many times as I pass a person whether it is on the street or in a store or whereever.

There can be language barriers when people speak different languages but a smile is universally understood and appreciated. I am a primary school teacher and if I go to work feeling a bit sad because I have problems as soon as I see the children I smile. If a child has worked really hard on a story I smile before telling them how well they have done. Saying good morning to people, a smile brightens their day. Smiling can be infectious, one person begins smiling then it spreads right round the room. My friend thought that the London commuters looked a bit sad so he tried to cheer them up with some smiling and if this didn't work some laughing. SMILE.

Its hard to smile when your mind is all taken up with some difficult or depressing problem.
Its easy to say smile to people but when you're taken in with a serious problem its not that simple.
Is it ?

hey Jenaisle,
First of all a very sweet smile to you from me from the bottom of my heart..
you are very right dear.. One smile can really make someone's day.. And intrestingly that person who's day has become nice bcoz of a smile ca make someone else's day . So we can say that one little smile from one person can go too far and make many people's day..
I always try to give people a smile whenever i meet thm.. even if they are strangers i do pass a smile and that makes me feel really nice. sometimes i get smiles in return and sometimes i dont but it doesnt bother me much .. As i feel good when i give someone a smile and try to make someone happy.
Moreover i also feel that one single smile can say that we all are one.. Or the person to whom you r smiling is accepted. little Children never think before giving smiles then why do we think before bringing that effortless sweet curve on our face? I guess everyone shud have that innocence of a child and give really nice smiles to people around and ou never know that might make everyone's day some day.. :)

I don't know about others but me and my friends are always smiling, we're always happy and we're heaps of fun (at least thats what people who hang with us say) We're in college now and i do notice that whenever i smile at a person may it be a stranger or a person i know they always smile back or the shy ones look away. one time I smiled at this little boy who looked really sad.. he looked to his left then to his right and pointed a finger to himself (me...?) and I nodded then the little boy smiled :D SO big and brightly it made me very happy that day.

A smile is an investment with an instant and cent percent return. When you smile at a person automatically he will smile back at you.A smile transcends all barriers and is an universal sign of friendship.A smile involves 4 muscles while frowning involves 64 muscles. It is the greatest asset in life. Many a time you remember a person for that lovely smile of theirs.A beautiful smile brightens up even an ordinary looking person making them look very attractive.A smile is a little curve which can set a lot of things straight. When diplomacy is required of you and you want to ease yourself from a bad situation, instead of raised voices and harsh words resulting in wounded feelings just smile.Though it may irritate the other person it saves you. When you want to make a good impression smile, it is a messenger of good will. When you smile it indicates that there is a caring and sharing person inside.A smile can travel round the earth and you may not realize its worth.it is the beginning of love and friendship.Smile and the world smiles with you.

Oh yes I always make sure that I smile to people I meet especially those I meet almost everyday. I may not know some of them but I do know they smiled back at me and had returned the gratitude and appreciated the joyful moment we have shared.
Just like what you said, I always keep in mind what a good friend once told me, some people have even bigger problem than I do but they are not showing off their hardships so I must do the same because its the cheerful face that leaves a good impressions to people we meet.

Just reading your heading made me smile. I have to agree with you on this. We never know what people are going through and giving people a smile can really make their day. When I give a stranger a smile I always make eye contact and for the most part I get a smile in return. I know I've had bad days and getting a smile from someone esp a stanger always puts me in a better mood.
Have a fantastic day!

I have to completely disagree with all who think that smiling alot is good,i live in a very populous country & a small stroll on the street will make you come across hundreds of people & it's impossible to wear a smiling face for everybody.Just imagine smiling all the time people can mistake you for an idiot and not everybody will notice your trying to be friendly since they are minding there own businesses & what's with being who u r & avoid pretence
