Biting and Scratching

I have a boxer that over the last few weeks has started biting and scratching at his legs and feet. He is doing it so much that he is causing sores, bleeding, and losing his hair. I read something about food allergies and I had switched his food, so I changed back to his regular food. That didn't help. I made a Vet appointment, but I was wondering if anyone else had this happen to their dog.

This could be any one of a number of things, a food allergy, fleas, heat spots or mange. It's best to take him to the vet to have him diagnosed, and then you can work on solutions from there. If he built up an allergy to food, it's not going to disappear right away from putting him back on his regular food. It takes time.

Our pit bull has issues with this, he has sensitive skin since his hair is real fine and short. Has there been any change in climate? Have you bathed the dog recently? Does the dog go outside often? All these have an effect on the animals skin. Changing in climate, or the bathing of the dog could have a reaction to his skin. He may just have sensitive skin, or an allergy to a type of soap. That or he could have gotten into something while he was outside, like poison ivy, poison oak, any irritant that may cause the dog to scratch, and itch. Good luck... hope your boxer gets better.

Not that this has anything to do with your story except the wording. In the Olympics today a Boxer (human not like yours) was disqualified for biting his opponent. I told you it wasn't the same but I found the wording very ironic. Hopefully your dog won't get disqualified but maybe they should take the human boxer to the vet as well.
