I have a close friend who has it and had a new style treatment last year and was in remission for a few months. Now it has returned and he wants to give up. I think he needs a new doctor, but what saddens me most is the thought of him wanting to give up. When faced with the loss of a friend you suddenly realize how important they really are in your life.

Dear Barbietre I have Myeloma but not the multiple type witch has lefty me disabled
which means I have pain in the lower part of my spine and pain kilers have no effect on the pain(only make me constipated)so I have to live with it,I am not in severe pain and can only walk with a walking frame. At present the cancer is in remission but I am told by the hospital that it will never go away but I could live
to a ripe old age.I am not sure just what multiple myeloma is,but tell your friend not to give up I live in the hope that a cure will be found.Has your friend contacted the McMillan camncer care people who are very good and suportive,I attend their day centre here in Eastbourne once a week (Saint Wilfrids)they are very kind people and will do all they can to help. Its worth a try.
I was diagnosed with myeloma in February 2007 and spent six weeks in hospital in alland lost a lot of weight,I went from 14 stone to 9 but now I am back to my normal weight.I am 76 or will be in a few days time.So once again tell your friend never give up and I wish him or her the very best of luck.

Thank you, my friend passed away 2 weeks ago. He had stage 4 when he was diagnosed. He went thru bone marrow transpalnt and was in remission for awhile, but then it came back along with leukemia. He had a number of complications after that like a weakened heart and then his body started to shut down. He was suffering so it was best that he pass on, no one should suffer like that for so long. Good luck to you, he was only 64.

Dear Barbietre Thanks for the reply to my mail.Sorry to hear your sad news regarding your friend.I have other complications as well as the Myeloma,an enlarged
heart, which I am told is normal in older people, also I have Pulmanary Disease, and an enlarged prostraite. So if they are telling me truth at the hospital I will still
live to a ripe old age.

Hi I am new to My Lot and just found your bit about Myeloma I have this and at present it is in remission, but has left me with pain in the lower part of my spine which means I have to walk with a walking aid.I also have other complaints but I will not go in to them.I have had accue opuncture and other treatments for the back pain.Pain killers do nothing for the pain and only make me constipated. You do not say if your friend has been in touch with the Mackmillen Trust they are very good.I go to their hospice in Eastbourne once a week for the day, they are very good
and very kind. You can find their page on the net.I feel that they could be of some help,I have nothing but praise for them.I am not sure what Mutiple Myeloma is,I was only told I have Myeloma so there might be two types.Tell your friend not to give in I am determind not to and will try anyting.I wish you and your friend well.Ps I may be a bit older than your friend I am 75.

It is a sad story, but I think we need
to pray hard for your friend that she can
overcome her battle, you should give her hope.
