What if you could "pre-program" your dreams?

Imagine if you could lay there in bed every night and just before heading off to sleep you could instruct your mind exactly what it is you were to dream that night? What do you think you would decide on?

I would dream about what I want my life to be like. So I guess I would be programming subject matter and that my subconscious would take over and work out the details. I think this would better allow me to achieve my desires in the waking world. I think you probably can influence the subject matter of your dreams by meditating on the subject matter first and making a conscious decision to dream about it. As a matter of fact, I think I will try that for the rest of the week and see how often (if at all) it works. Thanks for the idea.

This is a perfect way to see this in my opinion! Dream of the perfect life as a precursor to making it a reality! Many people practice visualization outside of dreaming and swear that it works! I use visualization also and have to say that I have had some success with it myself. Thanks for responding.

lol..you are not going to believe this....but I used to do it years ago. I could 'instruct' my mind on what I was going to dream that night and I would. I enjoyed it. I had different dreams each day depending on my mood and what my experiences were that particular day. hmmm...I think I even wrote a set of short stories based on my 'dreams'.

Well, I have a theory on that (now). I would do this when I was younger because that was an area where I would have control. I probably felt that the rest of my life was controlled by the others around me....even when it didn't really seem like that. So, my dreams were a part of the personal me that I could control and I could have any ending I wished. But there were also times, when I would just pre-program the first part of my dream (like a story) and see how it would go in my dream. I also realized that if I had consciously pre-programmed my dream, I was able to remember the whole dream the next morning even if I didn't wake up during the dream. I think I stopped doing it either because I'm too tired to bother with it....or I have control over my life now and don't need to control my dreams. I haven't had the time to analyse that aspect (2 kids and a job along with my studies is just too much to handle now without having to analyse why I don't pre-plan my dreams..lol)

I definitely find the whole concept of this fascinating. I can understand that as the family grew priorities changed and things like this end up being hard to practice anymore; but maybe you will get the chance to revisit it again in the future? It sounds like too amazing an experience to let go of forever! By the way, I was woken up this morning to explain the "3-in-1" term to my wife so thanks for that! lol.

This sounds like the "Lucid Dreaming" that a number of people have referred to in this discussion? I really need to do some research on this! You are very lucky to have been able to do this. It is interesting that you enjoyed it so much but have stopped doing it? Thanks for responding.

I have done this since I was a small child. Sometimes I make up stories for my own amusement, sometimes I work on problems of the economy and stock market. Only a few years ago I learned this is called lucid dreaming. I was surprised to learn everyone doesn't do it.

" Any success stories from this? " Yes, a relaxed state of the body while the mind explores a difficult problem is the best way to 'think outside the box'.

Hmmm. I was wondering if you may have predicted Enron or something during one of your stock or economy problem related dreams! lol. I am definitely going to look up lucid dreaming and see what it is all about. Getting into a more relaxed state alone is incentive enough for me!

You are the second person to refer to lucid dreaming! To be honest I had HEARD of it but know very little if anything about it? It definitely sounds like a marvellous skill to learn and I think I will be researching this..... Economy and stock market related dreams I am sure will differentiate you from many! Any success stories from this? Thanks for responding.

I have a 'standing order' with my dream state to always show me any thing I need to know that I am overlooking in my waking state. How I distinguish between just a regular dream and a 'message' dream is that I always wake up during the message dream which brings it on up into my 'conscious' mind, making it possible to recall it in the morning. For example, last night I dreamed that some guy didn't find me attractive because of my hairy legs, hehehehe. He went off with some other girl and I was crushed. I woke up during that dream and so right away knew it was somehow important. This morning I was pondering that dream and suddenly 'saw the light'. I have been not accepting myself as I am and additionally I have been allowing the opinions of others to influence my state of mind! But because I believed that I had 'accepted' myself, and did not care what others thought I had been blinded to the fact that those old beliefs were still controlling certain of my behavior and thinking. I would never want to instruct my mind exactly what to dream as I would lose the best form of therapy I have!!!! Not even to mention how much I love surprises!!

Ah! The cat lady awakens! lol. My sister is a pyschologist and one of her areas of study was actually dream analysis; so based on the little I do know about it I find your self diagnosis of your dream very impressive! You are lucky to at least remember your dreams as I don't seem to very much if at all anymore..... By the way I hope this dream also means that you will be shaving your legs now! lol.

I really do not believe at all that another can interpret your dreams for you. The standard symbolism of dreams that I have read in books or whatever, has never served me one bit. To remember your dreams if you currently do not, you have to take the time every before you go to bed to affirm that you are going to remember your dreams. I used to have pad and pen, or a hand held voice activated recorder, by my bedside so that when I awoke from a dream I could record it. I did that for a long time and now I no longer need to because it has become normal. Although I have fine-tuned it so that now I only wake up from the dreams that are significant in some way. Oh James... certainly it does not matter to you whether I shave my legs or not! You are over there in Egypt and do not ever have to look at the hairs on my legs scrunched every which way under a pair of pantyhose! Actually, I do not where pantyhose, and in fact I shaved my legs not too long ago. And I have to say, they are definitely more attractive that way!

Hehehehe, please forgive those couple of ridiculous typos there! I forgot the word 'night' after the word 'every' in my instructions on how to remember your dreams... nor do I 'where' pantyhose, hehehe... I don't wear them either! You're right, I just woke up a little while ago but my brain is apparently still slumbering.

Wind in my hair..... How could you not wake up with a smile on your face experiencing this every night? Thanks for responding.

If I could pre-program my own dreams I wouldn't have any nightmares. Mine get really scary and make me sweat. But then if we could pre-program our dreams wouldn't that take the mystery out of the dreaming experience. I think its fun to wake up and think "wow why did I dream that?" It would eliminate dream analyists.

I can think of about a million dreams that I would love to have and to wake up to, can we wake up to these "pre-programmed dreams"?? I wouldn't dream of anything "earth-shattering" but would want to dream of simple things that are going on in my life that are small but numerous.. My son recently lost his job after being newly married, so I now have 2 more people and 2 more dogs in my house.. I would dream of a spotless clean house, I would dream of a perfect day where the weather was just the right temp, I love the outdoors.. I would dream of no more "bad" news on tv, no more inflation, no more high gas prices, no more big corporate companies "gouging" people who can't afford the high prices as it is now.. I would dream of when I was younger and my troubles were simpler.. As I said before, my dreams would be programmed to be simpler, life and living would be simpler, more comfortable and easier.. Ok, I am finished, after I post this, I will read the rest of the responses, you know the ones where others would dream of ending world hunger, ending disease and finding world peace!! Have a great day.

Lol. Well fortunately for you DonnaLawson you have many, many more nights remaining in this world to have ALL of these dreams and more! As for the world hunger related dreams well I am sure that we have all been THINKING somewhere deep inside of ourselves that this would be a good dream to have but we have been somewhat distracted by our own desires! Go figure! Thanks for responding.

You really have to sleep a lot to dream all these! =) Your dogs and son are really doing mess in the house that you wanted to dream of a spotless clean house. All your dreams are positive. Let's take for example, no more bad news on the tv or no more high gas prices. It just means that you want to live in a safe community where everything you will be able to get all your needs.

Well I know there would be nights where i would drream about loved ones that have passed, such as my grandmother. I would dream about past memories and go back to those special events and things we shared. I would also want to dream about my life in the future, what it will be like, how my son will be as an adult and how my family will grow. then there would be nights when the not so innocent side of me would come out and i would probably want to dream about lovers I have had and things of that sort.

Amazing! =) Many people will love it! I'll dream about me working in a big company and earning high salary. Me having cars and a big house for my family especially for my mother. I really want to have of our own just for her so we don't have to live in our grandmother's house. I'll be financially stable that I won't have difficulty in financing the needs of my family. I'll dream of me and my partner together for long years happy and contented!

I would want to dream I have the powers of Hancock. That's all. I mean I've dreamt about it and it made me extremely happy. It's only short-term happiness, but at least, it is still happiness. :)

In my dream, I would find myself in my own big kitchen with the latest bakery tools and equipment. I will then be spending my time in that dream, making up different kinds of cupcakes, working on the recipes, frosting, and icing and tasting them as I go along. I will pre-program this dream to be in HD technicolor rather than black and white.

And the best thing? You could eat EVERYTHING you cooked over and over and never get fat! Food related dreaming sounds pretty good to me! If you have these dreams in HD Technicolour then you really should add "smellivision" as well! lol. Thanks for responding.

That would be more or less like day dreaming I suppose. I've stopped dreaming about the things that I know i can't get too. So pre-programming myself to dream about things like that makes no sense to me anymore. As a habit nowadays i think of doing something positive in terms of helping someone before I get to sleep. Dreaming about that a little more sure would be a nice and pleasant one.
