I got the chance to watch "evan almighty" on hbo a few days ago and something struck me when morgan freeman (who was GOD in the movie) said to evan's wife " when we pray to God to give us peace, he won' give us bliss. if we ask god to give us strength , he won't give us that strength. if we ask god for someone to love or someone to love us, he won't give us that. God will provide an opprtunity for us to have what we ask for..." . well, somehow in that manner.

I din watch that, instead, i watched Bruce almighty.. lol =D YUp, GOD won't really help us in a direct way, instead they give us hint, make us learn and explore our own opportunities.. And so when we succeed, we will feel more confident.. After all, b4 GODs become GODS, they are humans too.. Thus, they have been thru the same thing and so they know the solution to most things.. haha

It's like if you pray to god to heal you. He will but with one of his other children; a doctor. DCMerkle

i also had the opportunity to watch the Evan almighty on HBO the other day. The movie doesn't have much "comedy" antics in it, but the message is very clear. If we ask something, God gives us the opportunity to exercise, to act on it. If let's say, we hope that our partner would love us, we should love our partner first, to act on it first. Then have the "faith" that you will have what you are asking for. It is true also, I believe, that when you ask for blessings, it is not given in a silver platter, but to "see" the opportunity behind the obstacle, to work on it to the obstacle becomes the opportunity. Because, as the cliche goes, every obstacle is trully an opportunity, a blessing in disguise.

Meaning, we have to work hard to achieve it? He will not give us what we need but we have free mind , we have personal decision and we can make things happen?. Sorry if my remarks are all with question mark because I am not sure of my ideas. But this is a great discussion, I want to know others response.

it is like talking to yourself but addressing it to someone higher than yourself and you get this gut feel answer wherein you know that it is the right answers to our question.

Hi Tigerdragon, I enjoyed both Bruce Almighty and Evan Almighty but must admit I enjoyed Bruce better. It is true we can prayer but we must also make the changes within the opportunities that are presented to us and work for what we have prayed for. Ellie :D

I agree, God provides opportunities and we have to reach out and do something. Happiness comes in doing things that are positive. Acts 20:35 (The Message) 33-35"I've never, as you so well know, had any taste for wealth or fashion. With these bare hands I took care of my own basic needs and those who worked with me. In everything I've done, I have demonstrated to you how necessary it is to work on behalf of the weak and not exploit them. You'll not likely go wrong here if you keep remembering that our Master said, 'You're far happier giving than getting.'"
