does she look like a boy? (see picture). i know she's chubby and all, but when people mistake her for a boy, i tend to defend her and correct them instantly. being a mom, i don't know how exactly i'd feel when they make comments like "oh, you're baby BOY is very cute", or "HE is such an adorable child". sure, they are compliments and i should feel happy as her mom but i sure wish that her gender would be correctly identified in the future. i think the reason for this mistake is that she has such a short hair (curly, at that). she is, after all, just three months. but i really wish her hair would grow faster so that i can stop this "oops, correction, she's a girl" dialogue that i have been repeating over and over and over again :p

OMG! She is absolutely, hugely adorable! What a cutie!
If you hadn't have said she was a girl, I wouldn't have known whether she was a boy or a girl. Most babies are like that, in my opinion. When I was little, my mother put a little pink bow on my forehead so that people would know I was a girl. Have you considered that?

Smart girl! She sounds like a character, and I'm sure she'll make sure to let everyone know that she's a girl as she gets older. Congrats on your beautiful baby! Maybe painting her nails (I don't know how much she chews on her fingers, yet) would work?

well, the problem is, she hates having anything on her head. when she was two months, she would squirm constantly when i put the pink bow on her head, or even a pink cap. now that she's three months and can already grasp things, she removes it in her head the moment i put it. haha!

well she sucks on her fist like its the only thing in the world that could save her, so that's a no-no, too. hee hee. she even sucks on her two fists at the SAME time, and she chokes on it (naturally), and she gets angry when she gets choked! LOL!

First let me tell you she's very cute....and if you hadn't pointed it out...I wouldn't really be able to tell if she's a girl or a boy!
I've had that happen to me with my older son....people would mistake him for a girl all the time.....he had lots of hair and that didn't help one bit to correct them. He wasn't even a chubby baby. There was this one instance where someone even looked down his pants to make sure I was telling the truth when I told them he was a boy!
In fact, I would think with my second one being chubby...people would mistake him to be a girl....but even though he had hair too....he someone had a boyish look (I feel) because no one ever mistook him for a girl.

I think that when babies are little like that people aren't sure, so they go by what they think they see. I think your daughter is adorable. Try dressing her in pinks and purples, or carry with you a pink blanket. People usually get that your baby is a girl. I don't know what your beliefs are, but when my daughter turned six months old I got her ears peirced. And no one has mistakened her for a boy since. Good luck.

That is one cute baby! I have a girl, my only daughter and after having three boys I was really pleased. Unfortunately she had no hair and looked like her brothers so people were always confusing her for a boy which used to upset me no end. Even when she was in pink one day, someone called her a him. It is hard not to take it personal, if I see a baby and I am not sure I ask the person whether it is a boy or a girl!

It is irritating and I would always think, but how can they not tell, I can! Oh well no one can mistake her now as her hair is halfway down her back!

She is a very adorable baby. To be honest I wouldn't of been able to point out if she was a girl or a boy either. I don't mean to be mean here or anything but most times you can't tell if the baby is a boy or a girl when dressed only in a diaper. They don't have those features that pin point them out yet. I think it might be of the colors you dress the baby in. That could be it. Dress her more in pinks and cute little girl outfits and I am sure you won't have no trouble after that.

well, two things. when i dress her up in pinks (i do LOVE pink, after all), they always kid her about how she looks like a gay. second, maybe you are right. most all of her pictures only focus on her face (i LOOVE taking pictures of her face, it's really cute:D), so her clothes do not show, which is maybe why they always mistake him for a boy! haha!

Oh my gosh your baby i so cute and let me just say SHE looks nothing like a boy. And you shouldn't worry about the hair thing it'll grow in its time till then you should just put a little ribbon on her head if the 'people calling her a boy thing' still is bothering you that way they definitely know its a girl cause no boys have ribbons or bows on their head.

She's a cutie. I'm sorry you get that. I had to tend with the when I was like 3 or 4 I got kicked out of the ladies room. I had very short hair and this lady said little boy get out of here you belong in the Men's room. I got offended at that age and started to cry. I called my mom over and she had to tell the lady listen my daughter is a girl and she's not a boy, lol. I had the same thing happen when my son was a few months old we were in the mall and this man came up to us saying oh what a cute little girl, also didnt' help he was wearing a yellow sleeper but that is usually a unisex color, lol But I had to say thank you and said it's a boy and then this man said oh I'm sorry what a cute little boy you have. It happens and I gets us upset. But all in and all they meant well and just got the gender wrong.

thank you berrys! you're the first to say she doesn't look like a boy. hee hee. i hope you're not only making me feel happy :p
anyways, as I've said in a response to an earlier post (see above), she can grasp things now and she immediately removes anything i put on her head (yes, caps, headbands, ribbons and bows. she hates them all.) :p

She is absolutely gorgeous! I'd love to give her a big kiss on the chubby cheeksI have a girl myself and no, she did not get mistaken for a boy.. I didn't give them the opportunity to as I'd dress her head to toe in pink or something really girlie (although this was not the aim really.. I always wanted a girl and I had all the girlie gear ready as I started shopping as soon as I knew!)
People who have no kids usually make this mistake not knowing how the parents may feel, some are subtle enough to ask 'what's your name?' aimed towards the child but for the mum to answer and go from there..
Mine also had loads of hair but there's boys too with loads of hair when they're born so I do not think it's a determing factor. You can also put small ribbons in her hair even if it's short
It doesn't matter when they're this little that people get it wrong, they do not mean to and it's them that get embarassed actually...

Most people don't pay attention to the things that the kids are wearing. I have two boys and one girl. My daughter is two, has long hair in pigtails, and wears dresses all the time and people say, "Is your child a boy or a girl?" I think that the correct thing was said earlier. When people say what a cute baby boy she is, just smile and say "Yes, she is cute isn't she." Since it's usually in passing anyway, no one will be embarrassed. After all, they were complimenting her. :)

Your probably right. People just do not pay attention. I'm sorry that happened and that is the obvious of the pigtails and a dress. But yes, that would be the best thing to do. Just accept the compliment. =)

and yeah, when she turned 3 months, i can make her wear dresses already (when she was younger she has to wear overalls all the time. we just moved in a much colder place and i had to make her wear overalls or she'd have serious colds :)

Wow.....she's big and cute-i guess you can't get enough kissing her cheek.I have the same experience. Some would say without the earing my daughter looks like a boy. When svet's hair starts to grow longer and you start dressing her up with girlie dresses and ribbon or hair clips on--things will change.Think our daughter share things in common, naya has thin and curly hair also.Just last year i trimmed her hair and it makes wonder....now she has thicker hair.Maybe you can try that also.Check naya's picture--she's around 3 months here.

Hi kaye. I had this problem a little bit with my daughter. She too was chubby little newborn. The way I helped this problem was I always made sure she was dressed in cute little pink dresses. After I started dressing her this way, I always got remarks on what a beautiful little girl she was.
People surely can't mistake your baby for a girl if she is dressed all in pink, especially if her clothing is a dress. Good luck until the little sweetie gets lots of hair!

And yes, its very understandable you correct them, and that the right thing to do, i get a little weirded out too when they call the little girl i take care of a boy...shes like my little sister :P But anyways, like i said, people are people you know.

She's so cute...oh my with those eyes! Now, I envy you. I don't have a girl and I only have one child and is a boy. But hey she doesn't look like a boy. I'm also like that big when I was a baby, I was big and round and so chubby. But my mother never stops defending me even if I look like a sumo wrestler in my diapers. But I grew up healthy and that's all that matters. Make her as comfortable as she should be, so she would grow up healthy.

I guess it is very normal that when they still young, lot of people cannot recognize our children if they are boy or girl specially if chubby & no hair he he he, like my friend daughter.

She is very cute, but to be honest i would have guessed boy if I seen just the face. It is just hard at this age to know gender, especially with chunky cheekes hiding the line of the jaw. Don't let it bother you as my girls were born bald and 1 never had much more than peach fuzz until she was 6 months old and it was still pretty short when she was a year old. If it bothers you som much be sure to dress her in pink and lavender always. And never use any blues or greens when you are in public, including blankets. I always had my girls in fancy girly shoes or in pinks so that people would know without asking. I also tied a pink ribbon to her binky (pacifier). She will come into her feminine looking self soon.

Don't be upset to it, she will grow up to be a pretty girl soon:) I remember when my son was a baby, many people thought he was a girl because he has more hair and he has big charming eyes. But now, I think nobody say he is a girl any more. Otherwise this person may be blind:)

First off, your baby girl is beautiful! I know you must be one proud parent. I used to have a friend who had this same problem when her little girl was a baby. Everyone was always telling her how cute "He" was. I never really understood this b/c even though she had very little hair, she had very delicate, girly features and I didn't think she looked boyish at all. However, my friend was so upset about this she started buying all kinds of girly outfits that had matching hats or headbands. That baby must have worn pink everyday of her 1st year just because her mommy wanted everyone to be sure that she was a girl. After her hair came in and started getting longer she never had this problem again.

Your baby is adorable. When I see babies like newly born to around 4-5 months. I could not determine if its a boy or a girl. I usually have to guess it or wait until the parents of the baby tells me.
The most common thing I did was, I look around the clothes, the things, the bag of the baby. If most of the colors are pink or red, then it must be a girl, and if its more on blue or green, then it could probably be a boy.
Don't be sad, soon everybody will know that she's a girl.
