I like Dreamweaver. Its user friendly. Anyone can use it easily. You don't need to have html knowledge for designing. You can easily design in Design mode.

Mainly I use Dreamweaver especially with the map code so I can get a visual idea on how it is supposed to look without messing up. I've been working with code a lot and one thing I like to use also is a program called HTML Validator. It gets the job done as well. Graphic wise, I use Photoshop and that's actually a pretty good program. It's the only paint program I use. On occasion, I will use Photoshop for web design if I have a good idea on how the site is supposed to look.

It depends on what you plan on doing and an alternate if you can't afford Dreamweaver for example. It does come in handy though but can only be used for coding purposes and that's it. I find it to be useful and can get the job doen personally.

I used to use Dreamweaver, now I do all my coding in html editors such as Bluefish. There are a lot of html editors which are free to download. I strongly recommend you do most of your coding in CSS it's so much cleaner.
