I have herd of this dish but have never tried it, I am curious now and I will try it. I see people on TV shows referring to this as always being very hot and spicy. I love hot and spicy dishes. Does it takes the same as steam or fried dumplings?

hmmm, Dim Sum is actually a category for those chinese's steamed or fried little dishes mainly serve for breakfast last time ^_^ like sushi, u hav salmon sushi, unagi sushi etc, so as for Dim Sum, there is a lots of famous small dishes like xiu mai(mainly pork), ha kao(shrimp),cha xiu pao(pork bun), cheong fun, also include dumplings or xiu long pao (shanghai famous dumpling with delicious soup inside the dumpling), it just depends on the restaurant ^_^ it's not hot & spicy...and back 2 the time i studied in melbourne, i noticed they sell dim sum in food court, but the 'dim sum' is just a form of xiu mai, not as same as the Dim Sum that v all chinese familiar with ^_^

Hey Xiu Mai is also my favorite. I will always save a few coins to by myself a set of it before going home. Sometimes, I do buy a lot and serve it as the dinner of my entire family.

I love it! Where I come from we refer to it as "Yum Cha" instead of Dim Sum though. My favourite is the crispy salt and pepper squid and I also love the clear rice omelettes with filling! I would eat it constantly also but there are no such restaurants that serve this in the area I live in today.

I am from Guangzhou. Dim sum is the common dessert for the breakfast when we eat in a restaurant in the morning. It is delicious. And it's also a traditional breakfast here. My favorite is porridge, chang fen (cheong fun) and niu za.
I love China

I don't just like it, I love it, especially xiu mai/siomai! I stock up a lot of it in the ref. I either steam it again, or fry it. Soy sauce with kalamansi(native lemon) for dips, yummy with steamed rice!

Well I think that xiu mai is called here siomai. I love to eat that too and here it is sold either fried or steamed. It is also served with soy sauce, some chili paste and Philippine lemon. I love shrimp dumplings too but I can't eat a lot of it because I have a slight allergy to shrimp. The only thing I don't like is sharksfin mainly because of the environmental issues with it.

I love xiu mai too. We often make our own xiu mai. Its easy to make. We make different kinds of xiu mai, sometimes its pork, chicken or shrimp. I love pork better.
During my elementary years I remembered I help my mother in making xiu mai, I sliced carrots long and thin and insert it at the center of the xiu mai. It looks like the nose of pinnochio. It's fun. But only few xiu mai has carrots like that. It was a mark that those xiu mai with long carrots at the center are mine. So they don't eat xiu mai that looks like that.
I also love dumpling. We make our own dumpling too. We make our own skin, its easy, as long as you have enough time to make it. One time I told my mother if she would like to open business like this, just make dumpling and xiu mai. But she doesn't want to go in business. We just make and we eat. She said making your own is a lot cheaper, cleaner, and taste a lot better than buying at the restaurants. But of course you need to have time to make it. So, when I feel like eating, I have to buy the ingredients and go to my mothers house, so she can help me. More hands are better than one. Then while making it, we still have time to talk. Family bonding.

Well, never got chance to eat dim sum, but I am crazy about the Nepali version of dumpling. We call it Mo Mo. Mo Mo is very delicious and almost whole Nepal loves to have it once a day. It has become one of our national food.

I don't care too much for Chinese food but my husband does. I am not sure if he has ever had this though, but I bet he has. I love Mexican food the most but I will eat chicken fried rice on occasion too though. My husband also likes seafood but I don't accept for popcorn shrimp and cod fish.
