..setting goal..

Do you set goal in life? is it for short term or long term? or do you just live life according to the flow and according to where it will bring you? In my case, I am trying to set goal for short term, like for this month, I want to clear this bill and I want to purchase something for the house etc! It helps me to have direction and purpose for a specific period of time!

I think I don't have short term goals right now for this month. (But I have myLot goals for the month) My life now is a little limited. My salary is just enough for daily expenses. My time is also limited because I have work. Things like that limit me from making plans and goals. But I would like to make goals as goals are some kind of direction and inspiration. Have a nice day!

It sounds as if you are doing a good job planning and setting goals. If you are young, you will be very thankful when you get old that you have done this. I set some goals, but not enough. I think at any age you can become more goal oriented.

I was raised to roll with the punches, fight the fight, play the hand that's dealt ya...whatever way you want to word. I know that was not my mother's intentions, but its what I got out of it. Because of that, it has been a constant battle of mine to actually set goals for myself and work hard to achieve them. Last October I went back to school. THis has been a great experience and is helping me tremendously in this area. I am now learning how to set attainable short term goals that will help me reach that still some what unattainable long term goal (or shall I say dream???nah..it is definitely more than a dream)

Hi edgy, yea..I agree with you maybe we can call it dreams for long term plan! LOL! Thanks for sharing!

Yeah, I think so. A goal is something you can outline and plan for. A dream is a great thought stored in your mind. So long term goals and dreams are interchangeablle, because you can't completely plan out your future, anything can happen in the blink of an eye.

I have always set goals in my life but I am finding it harder and harder to reach them these days. I set short term and long term goals for myself and for my family. I always make me a list og goals that I would like to achieve and I work on that list daily. When it comes to financial goals, it is so hard because of the lack of income for it and the rising cost of everything.

hi steph, I agree with you, like when I want something this month for the house or for me, it is not attainable always since by that time, i will choose to save it or use to pay the bills! ANyway, Thanks for sharing!

I do not really have a long term goal... i go for short term goals... like paying a certain debt in a certain period... to arranging or cleaning the house... but with the rest... i go with the flow... because there are a lot of opportunities that would come... and i do not want to pass them up because of a certain long term goal...

Hi aseretdd, Yea..it is ideal really to set for short term goals and for me long term goals are kinda like a dream! lol! You are correct, there are surprises each day and hard to miss them because of sticking to what we are dreaming off!

well i've got a life-long goal and many short-term goals. my life-long goals is to be happy. my short-term goals are ways to achieve my life-long goals. the short-term goals are made depending on what makes me happy at the different stages of my life. when i was in school, i know finishing school will make me a happy person so that was my goal then. as my life progresses, my goals change. cheers ;p

Hello checapricorn, I always set a goal, be it short or long term. It depends when I can accomplish my goal. If it is something that I can achieve in a month, I will set to accomplish it in a month's time. I always have a month, 6 months, and a year goal for the time being.

I have set way too many goals in my lifetime and never reached them, so I don't set too many goals anymore, just live day to day, sort of. For example, I am dieting and losing weight and I want to lose a total of 40 to 45 pounds. That just sounded too hard for me, so I changed my way of thinking and setting goals and changed it to, I want to lose 3 pounds this week, or I want to weigh in the 170's this week. Something to that effect as it is easier if they are small goals and work my way up to the big one. I have lost 33 pounds and I only have about 12 to 15 pounds more to lose and they are the hardest, I am finding. So now I have set a goal to try to lose 1 pound a week, and that is working for me and when I see I have lost two pounds I am happy that I exceeded my goal. I think we all set goals of some kind even if we think we don't. Like in mylot, everyones goal is to reach the minimum payout for the month so we usually strive for it and do it, without realizing it is another goal to reach for.

Hi Che,well I used to set goals and targets for myself, but now im afraid its far more difficult.Ive found that as time goes on the more reluctant I have been to strive to achieve things. Its not that im lazy,im not,I just enjoy my days where I do what I want to do,in my own time. When I was working there were always deadlines to meet, and people who wanted to own a piece of you,and also were demanding an answer from you all of the time. Now I get up and my day is much simpler, and I revel in the simplicity really. Some may well say it is boring, but that doesnt enter into it.I am sure like you have said to have short term goals is good!..and after seeing the newspaper headlines about British gas prices rising again, one of my future short term goals may be to pay the gas bills!!lol...

It's good to set goals for ourselves. There are times when I'm just not focussed on my goals after I have set them. For instance, I said that I wanted to write 15 articles every month. But I have only managed 3 this month. I was also short last month. Sigh!

Hi Sydney, at least you were able to handle 3! there are various reasons and if you have a regular job! that is already an accomplishment!

i set short term goals. for instance currently my goal is to graduate from college. after that i think getting a good job would be a good goal. otherwise i live life daily, fully, and try to set long term goals - about the future and what is going to happen in 5-10 years to come. im more of a live in the moment kinda guy.

Hi skenthal, I agree with that since we are not really pressuring much into ourselves since they are attainable once we will really exert our effort on it! thanks for sharing!

I guess I rather drift along. I really just want to be kind of passed by - where I don't have to over stress my aching body. It doesn't make for the most interesting life, but perhaps a bit less painful with my fibro.

hello che, hmmm, lemme see?!!! i think my husband and i have both. but since you are only talking bout personal goals, i still have to say i have both - short term and long term. i said it is both as there are some goals that needs sometime before it can be realized and there are those that you can attain in a short period of time. my short goal right now... *make sure that my husband is religiously going to the gym and that i am feeding him the right meal. LOL (ok maybe it is a long term or must i say lifetime term!) *make sure that despite my hectic schedule i can still earn money online for our vacation on december (mylot) * finish the market research before October step in. * lose weight and not stress myself so much. * maybe work next year by March depends on the situation my long term goal (a year + from now)... * have a home * have a kid * have a new car * starts my business * make sure that my non-profit plan will have a better future by then * make sure that my website for my hobby earning thingy will happen so far that is all i can think off, i am not really a goal searching and reaching kind of person, i just make things happen if i really want to. i believe that plan is good as well as goal as it directs us to do the right thing but often in my life the more i plan and set goals the more it goes differently so i just often live a life as is and just look ahead with optimism on it. every one is different but so far that is how my life works - keep me happy though haha! have a good one1

yes i do. i always right down what i need to do. just to remember it. i have a very active child that sometimes when i play with him i forget some things that i need to settle or errands that i need to run. so i write it down on a paper or white bord. about paying bills, yes, i make it a point to pay bills as soon as possible. dont want to receive a disconnection note for that would really rattle me. i dont like long queue when paying bills so i always pay as soon as possible.

i set goals for both long term and shot because i want to know what i need to do for the month and what i need to do in the next few years. its always good to plan out and know what u need to do than just think on your feet when things happen
