The Buns have not been iced yet!

My husband has trying to get me to make buns and I finally relented. I found a recipe that was not as rich and I decided to make two batches. I spread them with butter, put on the cinnamon, brown sugar, and raisins, put them in the pans and into the oven to bake. Now since I was not going to make sticky buns (after all I have a weight problem) I decided to ice them and put most of them in the freezer, and just take out one or two a day. I took them out, put them on the stove top to cool. My husband asked me to make a cup of coffee and then saw the buns cooling, and took one of them.
"I have not iced them yet," but he said it did not matter. So I iced the rest.
So has your husband been so impatient that he would not wait until what you made looks good enough for you?

If I make the buns like you did (we call them cinnamon rolls) I never ice or frost them. I figure they are sweet enough. We like them straight from the oven with lots of butter melting as we eat them. Pull the roll apart then slather the butter on until it is dripping. I know that as bad as the sugar in the icing. but I like the butter better than the extra sweet that icing adds

I like them both ways, with or without. But with icing, I can put them in the freezer. I do not want to eat all of them at once= just the two of us. If there were a way to make the buns, half bake them then bring up two or three, and have them finished cooking so one can have just one or two at a time, that would be a good idea. I love butter on mine but I just like a little icing so I just drizzle a bit. Oh and I also love sticky buns, but the trouble is I love clean hands so when I have just a bit, I am always running to the washroom to wash my hands.

I make sticky buns with maraschino cherries and pecans for Christmas, but not for a while, because my husband thinks that they are expensive and at Superstore we cannot get just a small quantity, we have to buy a large jar. I hope they are at the bulk srore, but doubt it. Besides I can only eat one bun a day and it has to be a small bun.

Yes. I hate it when he cooks also because he likes his food not all the way done and mine has to be. I like mine to have a certain taste and he does too. Sometimes we can agree on the food but most of the time his taste buds are totally different than mine and I have to cook my own.

Both of us like our food cooked well done, but with vegetables I like them a little undone. But with cinnamon rolls, he will not wait and with cookies, they are way too soft when you take them out of the oven so they have to cool a bit more. But I do most of the cooking, unless I am out and then he will fry and egg or something or warm up stuff.

It is not that he does not like them iced, it is just that he is too impatient. Usually because there is only two of us now, I seldom make anything like cakes or squares and only when I make something for Women's society or when there is a shower and it is our group's turn to bake and then I make enough so there are four left over of the squares for us, so when he sees something, he wants it right away.

I guess pretty soon I will have to warm up a couple of cinnamon buns for our evening snack. And my husband used to take the lid off the pot when the instructions clearly said to keep covered. But he has taken a piece of cake before I iced it, a bun before I finished it, cookies before they were warm. It is a good thing I do not that much baking.

I can't say I've had this problem with my husband - opps haven't had one in 17 years but I certainly have with kids, particularly teen aged boys - they seemed to never care what it looked like just saw FOOD.
My favorite story is the onion rings. Two oldest sons were teenaged and when I said I was going to make onionrings they both said they didn't like them and didn't want any. Well, in the process of the first batch #2 son got a look, tried one, then filled a plate. #1 son came in and 'little brother' recommended the rings which ment with the two of them eating as I was cooking I couldn't keep up with them. Yea they didn't like onion rings - to this day the only time either of them will eat onion rings is when I'm cooking them and their in their 30s now.

I had my sons steal buns and cookies I had made and guess where they got that idea? From my husband, of course.

Oh I think it's inborn - a male hormone or something, my boys didn't grow up with a father and they still did/do it, stealing food :(

It must be a man thing. They cannot wait. I have to hide snacks all the time. With bought stuff, it is different. I do not like to be the first one to open the package, but when I make something and it is lying on the stove top, cooling off, he can't wait that ten minutes.

I wish he wold have waited until I iced them. They are so much better that way. At least we have enough for at least two or three weeks. Most of them are in the freezer where neither I nor he can get them that easily.

Ooohhh...those sound heavenly...with or without the icing! Yes, my hubby has done that to me every once in a while too. Especially when I've made coffee cake. I'll come into the kitchen and find a slice or two missing, and hubby with a smug smirk on his face. LOL

He does it even when I make a cake. I have found it was easier to make two cakes, put one down in the freezer, and keep one out so he can snack on it. It does get frustrating.

When i comes to sweets i think all men are impatient..Men ,i have found love all the cakes, pies, and anything sweet they can get their hands on.My husband is the same way..They always like something from the oven & sweets are the best thing for them (they think) My husband is always wanting a lemon pie,his favorite.I try not to have to many sweets since he is diabetic but if i don't fix them ,he goes down to the store & buys "little Debbies" so what can you do?

My husband is the same way, but now since we are both on pensions, he looks at the ice cream and the buns and says, "wait until they are a little less," and "no too expensive." But when I make something, I have to hide it to make sure that it is not gone the same day. I guess we have to hide them.

Ah but I already had the icing and the vanilla beans mixed together, had taken the milk out of the fridge, so it was a matter of time. Beside if I did not ice them, I would have to smooth butter over the top to make them soft.

Mine is the opposite. I make homemade blueberry muffins for my husband breakfast. He has them every morning. I usually make them at night. As good as they smell, he will only eat them in the morning. He is not tempted to even eat one fresh from the oven. That is shocking to me. They are so good. This is the recipe I use from Recipezaar:

I love blueberries so much, they will not last long enough to mix into the muffins. I should try that recipe, but I will use butter instead and I will probably substitute half whole wheat flour for the flour. And they might be a little too sweet to me.

I sometimes can't wait either, even when I am the one doing the baking. I will soemtimes just put some icing on just one of them, so I can eat it while I am doing the rest. I have never heard about freezing them with icing on them, don't they get mushy when you defrost them? I, personally, would freeze them without the icing and just put icing on them when I have defrosted them. That way the icing is fresher and not soggy. I don't eat very much baking goods so I don't bake very often, but when I do I always make extra and freeze them so I just have to take them out of the freeezer and throw them into the microwave and then put frosting on them before I eat them. My daughter does most of the baking, since she loves it, and I do most of the cooking. It works for us.

Well when you ice them before you put them in the freezer, that means you do not have to eat them all at one setting. If you do not ice them, and maybe you take out one or two then it does seem funny to ice just those one of two buns. They do not get mushy because you do not ice the buns until they are cool and you just put on icing sugar with a little milk and vanilla, no butter on the icing. The reason they get mushy is because you do not let the bun cool enough.

Thanks for the tip about icing them. I didn't know you can freeze them that way. I will try it, so thanks my friend.

As a husband I can tell you that I am always impatient when my wife makes something as yummy as you made. Sometimes she has to resort to hiding them and dispense them to me sparingly. It doesn't help that I have to compete with our kids for the goodies.

Our sons are grown and out of the house so I do not have to worry about that. When they were home, the buns only lasted one day. I would have them in the pan, and before long I had to wash the pan. And I got good hiding places and since my husband's stroke has affected his feet, he does not go downstairs to the basement that often. The cinnamon buns are in the freezer.

My husband (now ex) used to drive me nuts, coming through the kitchen and grabbing some of whatever I was making. I started to make at least a helping more than we needed to compensate but then when he saw it was more, he'd take more. I mean, I'm glad he liked my cooking but c'mon, let me cook! He'd also add stuff without asking and pretty much ruin it for the rest of us.
Those buns sound like they'd be great without the icing, and better for you! They really sound delicious. Do you make them from scratch?

It was not much icing. They were good and I made them from scratch. But I cheated I used my trusty Kitchenaid with the dough hook. I just had two and so did he. And most of them are down in the freezer, away from temptation. Just hope I do not get the blues. That is when it is more dangerous for me.

I guess we cannot have it. I eat when I am happy as well. Well at least I have made it more difficult to get fat. I've got most of the buns in the freezer, and the basement is unfinished, so it will take a while for me to go downstairs, and get a couple for tomorrow. We already ate our quota for today and I will make sure that I am kept extremely busy mylotting.

Hi, suspenseful. There has been a one time that my husband kept on asking me if the chicken was done so that he could eat it. I cooked so late in the day. He was very hungry and so was I. That is why from now on, I will make sure that I cook early while we have already eaten. That way, we won't be so starved out while waiting for the food to cook.
