At last I am happy about it. yesterday india won another bronze in wrestling and in Boxing another medal is assured. now I am happy. I think if the government takes adequate care of the sports other than cricket, we can won more medals.Till date Cricket is only given interest.

Hi subha, beijing made the memorable olympics of Indians. all of us can proud of it. Winning a individual medal is a big deal. Eventhough they are getting worst training. They could do wonders. Really appreciable. Bindra had swiss trainer that what he made

Good news.. it is quite a reward for the massive dedicated work by these athletes.. As i have stated in earlier discussion of yours, that if there is no political influence in selecting the team and players, also if the bribery does SPARE, the sports and the below par infra structure facilities for the sportsman are developed then we could put up a good performance. And regarding your question of cricket.. Also, there are many players who have tons and tons of potential.. to be short there are more Tendulkars and Dravids, available, but they find hard to get a place in National team, and hence the get content by playing in domestic tournaments. Reason for this.. plain thing.. the Selection Policy of the Cricket Board. Take care friend.

That os greta to hear. I think the United States is doing really well this year also. I had heard that they do not do a whole lot with cricket too though. There are just some sports that they do not put alot of attention into these days. Maybe they will soon.

Hello Subha12 Can you recall your discussion earlier stating that there is no chance for further medal for India and seeing the dismal performance of Indian players in olympic I was also commented and agreed with your view. But I think it was too early to speak. I am sorry for my comments. It is a great pleasure that Mr Sushil Kumar got bronze medal in 66 KG wrestling event in beijing olympic after long gap i.e. 56 yrs. Really it is amazing . One more medal is assured and expected for India in boxing as our player Mr Bijendra entered into the semifinals . For me no matter what type of medal our players are receiving, but our achievement is great. Indian players have created a history and they proved that India has the capacity & potentiality to compete with other countries. Regarding facilities extended by the Govt is not sufficient. Awarding lakhs of rupees to the individual player will not serve the purpose.Govt should think to construct sports academy ,sports institution where all facilities of world standard should be provided and proper coaching to be arranged. Talented athletes all over the country should be taken into consideration. We Indian have heard the remarks of our great leader Netaji Subhash Bose that "Give me blood, I will give you freedom". In the same line there must be a commitment . If Govt. is taking all cares for upbringing the players to the desired level to compete in the olympic then in turn athletes must achieve medals for the sake of country. It is true that we are spending lots of money for cricket neglecting other sports events. I think not only govt ,industrialist should also participate to help or to promote indian players. I am proud being an Indian as in the beijing olympic India got 2 medals and other is assured.I salute all of them. pkc3000

Hello,Subha! What a shame for India!a big country got only a gold and two other medals!do you feel proud of our performance in the Olympic games.Very small countries like Japan or south Korea got eight gold each besides other medals.so imagine where we stand.whoever has won the medals it due to their personal efforts.there is no government role in it.the government of India as well as the state governments are spending crors of rupees every year but what is the result?Uptill now no patronage from government sector has come forward for any games or sports.cricket?there is no role of the government for the development of cricket.whatever is done, done by the BCCI.it is an astonishing fact that the government has not yet provided play grounds for the players for practice.so what is being done with the money?shame,shame,shame.thanx.

in what way govenrment is spending money for sports is not known to me. just giving cash rewards when anyone wins medal will not help the scenario. they desrve it. but the government should do something to uplift games of all kinds

In a previous discussion you have stated that India can't win a medal. Now you had corrected that. Any athlete participating cherish to have a medal in his or her records. They are trying for that. Some time struck the gold. Some other time fails. We should learn to encourage the athletes whether they win or loss.Encouraging cricket is not a sin.But discouraging other sport items is a mistake, I agree.

the previous one was when india won only one and all are failing. it is not to defame the players. But the govermnent should wake up now.

boxing - India won another medal in boxing
Congrats...first time in Olympic history, India has achieved, three medals, in single event..I hope this is the beginning of the journey.. In next Olympics..I hope, India will have a bigger share of medals...The focus should be diverted, to other games, and the government should encourage, single events ...

We have interest on cricket as it is a common game and even a handicap can play. I still rember during my school days i had a friend who could not able to walk properly play cricket, thats really admired me. Olympic participation in different sports are world interest and now we can say our country also turns to the world interest and started doing that world interest games...Sure its the start not the end, So lets concenrate on some other games and lets break the law of not getting more medals in olympics. Sure the next generation will change it... Chak de !!!!

Ya, I know, Cricket is given more importance in India than any other sport. And you can easily see the effect in the people how much enthusiastic they are when India plays in a Cricket World cup and when they compete in Olympics. Infact, even in today's newspaper, there is an article which says that good performance of Indians in Olympics puts the Indian Cricket Team under pressure.LOL Buti am really happy seeing India's performance in the Olympics this year. Youngsters are really doing gr8. And they are just raising our expectations high. First Abhinav Bindra winning the first ever individual Olympics gold medal for India and then sushil Kumar winning a bronze medal in Wrestling. Infact to be very true, I had never even heard of these styles of wrestling before. But now, they make us feel proud. And its time that Vijender can get us the same honour in Boxing. Though, he is assured to get a bronze medal, but i i think that he should not be satisfied with the same. He has shown gr8 skills and can surely win another Gold medal. I just wish him all the best!! I just wish if Rajyawardhan could have performed the same way as he did in last Olympics. But anyway, i hope this medal count gets increased in every Olympics to be held in future.
