After winning the Wimbledon Crown, and snatching the gold in tennis men's singles in the Beijing Olympics, Rafael Nadal finally climbs to the top spot as the NUMBER ONE TENNIS PLAYER player in the whole wide world!
with more than 200 weeks of being the second best player, Rafa successfully displaced arch rival Roger Federer in the number one spot and claimed the throne on Monday, August 18, 2008 (Philippine time). still, Rafa is humble saying that Federer is still the best player for him. awwww. well whatever, for Rafa's fans, he is the number one! Viva Rafa! congratulations!

rafael nadal is a great tennis player i have watched his game & his awesome well rafael nadal & michael phelps are the great young olympians of all time. michael phelps beat the the record of seven which is an american too if i'm not mistaken the 7 time gold record is on the 70's or 80's, but phelps beat it with an 8th gold it really shows that he's a fast swimmer!

LOL =D other than Rafa, or maybe i should u, U Are even much more happier than RAFAel on him becoming the world number one.. lol =D
There's no doubt that Rafa is young, but his skills are also improving as he grows older and having more exposure especially with Roger.. I guess all the lossing and finals with Roger, makes Rafa a stronger and better opponent, till now, he has finally taken the top spot form Roger ^_^ hehe

i agree. his matches with Federer made him more stronger and skilled. after all, Federer was number one before and Rafa was number two. it is really a great experience to play with someone stronger. well, i guess Federer didn't see it coming. Rafa won't remain number two forever. and he just proved it.

yes. i wish Rafa can defend his title and number one spot for a long time just like Federer. i'd be totally disappointed if he can't remain there at least for a year!

And i guess it's just a matter of time that it happens, just that it took longer this time.. lol =D But i believe rafa will prevail and hold it for another record breaking peroid b4 others will take it away from him.. haha

waaaaah.. he is my idol since I've seen him in the sports channel almost 5years ago... he is one great player. in fact I like him when he is in rampage at the tennis court. And now he is NUMBER ONE... yeah. In fact Nadal is always been the reason of our bickering with my brothers, they like Federer, while I like Rafa, now they like Rafa, and am so happy cause I've already get my money... nyaaa, just kidding. Actually we had a bet, that if ever Rafa will be number one, I will have a three years supply of ice cream...
And since August 18, 2008, I have my daily dose of ice cream...

Hi Secretbear,.. You must be a happy girl.. Rafa at number one spot..
What happened to my Federer? Has he lost shine?
Any chances for Federer to regain Number one spot?

there's always a chance for Federer to regain his old spot. but now that Nadal has taken over it, i'm sure he will do his best to defend it like Federer did before so Federer will have a hard time getting it back.

Yes, Rafa definitely deserves to be where he is right now. I've been a Rafa fan since forever, or at least, since I got into watching the sport and it's such an awesome feeling watching him grow and evolve into the champion that he is now. Of course, of course, it would've been inevitable for him to assume the number one spot, after his stellar performance this year.
And yes, Rafa's humility is one of his endearing traits (though I've read some critics say that Rafa's humility is just a case of his thoughts being lost in translation, or something like that, but I digress...) and it amazes me how he always emphasizes how much more he'd like to improve his game, to go beyond the level of proficiency he has already achieved. And, he has proved to us, over and over again, that he could do anything he puts his mind into. Oh, and he's only 22... =)
I think Rafa will keep the number one spot and we'll be able to witness the shaping of another of the sport's all time greats. Vamos, Rafa~! =)

hi nekonyata! you really are a Rafa fan are you?? me too! and he is my favorite tennis player ever since i got interested in tennis too! ^__~ critics will always say bad things to people. but saying that Rafa's humility is because of being lost in translation? that's ridiculous! i beg to disagree too! i believe 100% that Rafa is a humble person. i'm just so sad that he lost in the US open. but it was still an improvement! he finally reached the semis! viva Rafa!

its not that obvious. well, slight. yeah, i've read his blog. after a few days with his family he's gonna start practicing again for the Davis Cup. its interesting to know that despite his schedule and despite the pressure, he has time to write on his blog.

*lol* Is it that obvious? *lol*
Yes, too bad about the US Open but well, at least he made it to the semifinals this time. If I'm sensing a trend, maybe next year, he'd go all the way to the finals? I've read that he's all psyched up about the Davis Cup right now. =)

Whoa! Rafael Nadal deserves it! He's one of the greatest tennis players ever born in history. He's moves are really to die for and his techniques are really amazing. I wouldn't wonder why He's already the no.1 replacing Roger Federer, he deserves it... He really does. The Wimbledon crown, the Beijing Gold and topping the US Open are the reasons why he is 'it'.Go Rafa! Smash it...

It's indeed Rafa's time now and the Federrer era has just ended..I'm sorry to see him go but I think Rafa has more power drives than him.Anyway, Federrer owned the throne for quite sometime already so this might be the time to let a new blood of power athlete like Rafa rule and dominate.

I felt Happy for Nadal because all his hardships he underwent has already a fruit from no. 2 to no.1 the saying is very correct " Suffer now Enjoy Later" But lets not put too much confidence to Nadal because maybe this U.S Open Federer will avenge and get his throne back.

hi harvey! well, Federer got his revenge but not on Rafa. ^__~ even if Rafa didn't win the title, it was still an improvement for him since it was his first time to reach the semifinals.
