How much do you allow?

Ok I was responding to another discussion and I got to thinking about children and TV watching. I know that for some TV has become the new babysitter for kids. Between that and video games most parents have no idea who their kids even are anymore. So I was wondering how much TV do you allow your children to watch? Do you monitor what they watch when they do watch tv? I know for me most times my kids are only allowed to watch maybe an hour or two of tv. There are some days where they may watch a little more but not very often. I also monitor their shows very carefully. Mostly they watch the Disney Channel, Nick, Noogin, PBS sprout, the Discovery channel, the history channel or Discovery kids. If it's not that it's a cartoon movie that we own. I try to keep their programs somewhat educational and so even with those channels there are some shows they aren't allowed to watch. I think as parents we have an obligation to our children to make sure they not only watch the foods they put into their body but the things they put into their minds.

My kids probably watch about 2 hours of tv a day. They like to watch dora and shows like that in the morning. I don't mind them watching those shows because they are educational. Other than that they don't watch much tv. That is as much their choice as mine. They like to play together. They are 5, 3 and 1. The 1 year old doesn't watch anything yet. We stick to nick or movies that we own that are ok for kids.

trust me I completely understand that. My son likes Go Diago Go. I don't let them watch Dora mostly cause that show gets on my nerves. There are a few times in which their behavior dictates if I'm going to let them watch TV or not.
