In the modern world, development is the prime task for any government. Every country is tapping into the vast resources in the nature to support their industries. At the same time, great pollution is caused to the environment. The sky is never clean and blue. Rivers and lakes are blackened. Environment preservation has become a grave challenge in front of us. The environment around is the condition for the human well-being. Without the air, we will not be able to breath. Without clear water, we will have nothing to drink. Without the fertile soil, we will have nowhere to get our food. The environment sustains our very survival. Damages to the environment also threaten the survival of animals, which will ultimately threaten the biodiversity and the balance of the nature. In addition, we must consider the interests of our future generations. We should not leave them a dirty world and thus deprive them the right to development. As a result, we must ensure that our development is sustainable and achieved in the best interests of the whole human race.

I agree with you that the environment is the key to our and the world's survival. As of now more and more people are finally realizing this and thus there is an increase effort for a rehabilitating the planet. If only the options present in the first wold countries are cheaply available for those in the third world countries I bet most of the world's problems with regards to the environment can be easily solved.
