How often do you visit parks?

I'm speaking of parks that children can play in, or parks with benches or hiking trails... Most are free to go to, although I think I recall that a park somewhat near me takes 'donations'. Martin Nature Park is an extensive trail of paths, creeks, and some unusual playground things along the trails as well. It has been over a decade since I have been, but they might have asked for voluntary donations to go into the park. Do you go to relax, take the kids, or have you ever had a picnic in one?

I don't get to parks much because I really don't care to go by myself and the roomie - because of her vision is adversely affected by light - says "outside BADDDD." There is a park on the way back from her job that I've been known to use as a bypass of a busy intersection, if there is some problem with the traffic there. I tell her that: "we're going the pretty way." After I retired and before I started working with my mom in 06 when the weather was cool, I'd stop in that park and sit in my car and read. There was a guy who practised his bagpipes and I could listen to him, they're fine at a distance....

You're a hoot. I like how you put that to her, 'we're going the pretty way.'

Actually that's a Jon Pertwee quote. In a Doctor Who episode, the Doctor and Jo left before the bad guy and the bad guy still got to the next location before they did, Jon said, when someone commented on it that they had "gone the pretty way."

very rare that I go to the park unless it's real hot outside and I can't go to the beach. I am really more of a beach person, although I can imagine eating lunch in the park will be nice especially if there are some activities there such as drumband rehearsal or circus.

Hi LittleMel! I have not seen you around. Have you been doing discussions? I have two people on my friend list whose discussions are not getting to me for reasons I don't know. I just want to check and see that you aren't one of them!

I visit parks often with my wife. We go there sometimes to relax and free our mind with stress. Being one with nature is such a good practice to do every now and then to wash away the negativities that we get from our daily activities.

Hi AmbiePam, I actually visited the park this morning as it was the first day of sunshine we have had for a while so wanted to get my son out for some fresh air. We walked down to the pond area first with some bread from home and fed the fish, as no ducks around, the size of some of the carp, they were massive, and come up out of the water to take the bread. My son had lots of fun doing that and then we sat on a bench and chatted to a guy who was 78 who had survived war, cancer, his wife and many friends and he was appreciative of the company, my son was chatting to him about planes he had seen at an airshow the week before. It was lovely,he had a little dog with himthat was 14 years old and grumpy but funny, she kept telling him off as if to say dad you've been chatting too long. We then walked up to the top end of the park and played on the slides, and swings. We were on a pirate boat on the climbing frame but we couldn't touch the ground as it was shark infested, he even had me silding down the firemans pole. I didn't take a picnic today, sometimes do, but I did buy an ice lolly from a cafe they have there before we left for home. It is a free park that is really well maintained with lots of beautiful trees. Ellie :D

I visited a park on Saturday with my husband and dog. I love going to the park, I go quite often. I also like to get on the swings, and I'm not embarrassed about it. I'm 22 years old, and I still love swinging. I didn't this time because I spent all my time walking my dog. When my husband and were dating, we used to go to the lake all the time. I love the park, I always have a good time whenever I go.

That is a good way to accomplish a lot of things at one time. You spend time with your husband while you both get fresh air and some exercise, and your dog gets exercise too.

It's been awhile since I been to a park, I think it has been over a year since I have been to one. I love the parks and nature and hiking the trails even but with no car it is hard to go places.

I live a mile or so from Springbrook Nature Center. I go there about once a week to walk the tarils. Sometimes I get some awesome photos from their for discussions as well. lately there has been a Redtailed Hawk flying around so I have been there trying to find it's nest or at least a glimpse so I can get a great photo. I also bike ride a few times a week to the Mississippi River. There is a bike trail about a mile from my house that covers maybe 2 miles of the shoreline of the Mississippi River in a park called C00n Rapids Dam & Regional Park. I love that area as do my grandsons. I always drop off my change to the oparks I visit if I don't have to pay an admission fee as they are supported mostly from donations etc. I love picnics at local parks a lot. Nothing like sitting with nature as you BBQ some lunch/dinner. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

When I was living in a small Alberta town I used to go to the main park there. It was in the middle of town and had a man made lake that was about a mile long and 1/2 mile wide and I used to watch the kids fishing in it. Only kids under 12 and senior citizens were allowed to fish in it and only from shore and only catch and release. But it was fun to watch the really little ones catch a fish as they would get so excited. Then I moved to a big city in Manitoba and there was a park right across the street from the apartment I was living in. I used to go there a lot, like every day when the weather permitted. I would sit by the river and read a book. There were no little kids in that park, no playground for them. Now I moved to a big city in Alberta and I don't know where there are any parks, not yet anyways. And since it is close to the end of November it is too cold to go sit in a park but by the time summer comes around I will have found a park close to home, I hope. Alrighty then, talk to you later my friend, Have a good day, Chris

Where I live has two parks, both are reasonable sizes but one is in a severe state of neglect and the other only has swings and a slide and a tiny little climbing frame. The most time we can spend there is about 20 minutes before they are bored. To go to a decent park involves a drive of anything from 45 minutes to an hour which is hard as my kids suffer travel sickness quite badly, plus it turns out to be expensive when having to consider fuel. I wish we lived nearer things, or that the facilities around us were better as my kids miss out on a lot of stuff.

Yeah, the parks close to me are just casual ones where you can walk for a little while, play a little while, but easily get bored at. Martin Nature Park takes about a 35 minute drive in little traffic.

Grandpa and Mikey - We love to feed the ducks at Lakeside Park.
Can I vote for "all of the above"? We just recently picked up a pizza and went to eat at the fish pond park, the grandkids get taken to the park when we can, and all of our parks have terrific walking paths. We also like to feed the ducks.

There is a big park right close to where I live. I don't have much patience to sit down watch kids play but I like to walk so I go there often. A little more out of the city there are wonderful parks with hiking trails for all tastes. I love those, although I haven't been going for a bit. Hubby, the kids and I used to hike frequently, or sometimes take the canoe and half canoe, half hike:) We loved it. Personally I find it very relaxing and enjoyable. As for picnics we have them regularly, and even though the kids are older now, they still enjoy going. It's always a big thing because all their friends show up as well which makes it even more fun :):)

We have many very nice parks around here and we go often, but it's not always safe so we take the dog or stay in areas where there are a lot of people.

We go to the park almost every weekend when the weather is nice. We live in East Texas, so that's a lot of park time. Lately, though, it's been raining every time we attempt to go. We have an 11 year old and a 4 year old. They both still love the park. The 11 year old likes to go there to jump the creek, climb on stuff, and hang out with friends. The 4 year old loves the swing, slide, etc. I wan to relax but it's not relaxing when your 11 year old jumps from a tree and hits the ground running. lol. We often have birthday parties there as well. If you're ever in Tyler, Texas check out Bergfeld park, it's great....

The city I live in is kinda plenty of parks, but I usually don't go there by myself. I know, it a nice place to chill out, but I don't feel in the mood to visit it if I'm not with somebody. It's nice to go there with friends.. Then, sit there and chat for hours and hours. A guitar and some songs also is welcome.
