Window XP or Vista ?

I have been using Windows XP for quite some time and I am quite happy with it. However, being someone who chase after technology, I find it hard to resist the temptation of upgrading my OS to Windows Vista. But I heard it is rather unstable and not that useful at the moment.
I need some advise and views. Care to share your experience or thoughts when comparing XP to Vista?

If you are a casual computer user, the Vista will be a good choice since it has many some small little features that make it more user friendly.
But if you are a gamer or above average user, XP is the way to go. Compabilty issues means that some games cannot perform their full potential and password prompts for almost every system settings is going to spoil your day if you change them often(i do)
I have both systems. Vista on my desktop, XP on my MacBook Pro(along with my Mac OS X of course!) and Vista and XP on my Compaq. I find myself using the XP systems more often, even though the desktop has a lot more raw power.
If I were you, I'll resist the temptation and wait for Windows 7 around 2010. You've gone so long without Vista, just wait a bit more and save the money on the license and spend it on Win7

Windows 7? Is that a new operating system? I didn't know that, thanks a lot for sharing. By the way, with the new operating system, I guess it is time for me to upgrade my computer soon.

Alright, thanks a lot. I will wait for Windows 7 to release then. But who knows, I might be asking Vista or Windows in the future and you will be telling me this - wait for Windows 8 to release, just a few years more. Ha ha, then I will forever stick to XP till Microsoft has plan to stop developing newer operating system - which is very unlikely. :P

Yup, Win7 will be the new system scheduled to be out in 2010..or around there, after the many delays with regard to Vista..
But anyway, its suppose to eliminate the compability issues we get with Vista as well as all its new benefits, such as better security and stuff. So it'll be something like a marriage between XP and Vista. Also, it'll boast many new touch screen features, so I was just thinking you might wanna wait for a bit before upgrading your com. I believe when its launched, PC manufacturers will build models that will allow us to fully utilize the potential of the touch functions. Moreover, quad core is fast becoming standard(and cheaper) and with all these new functions, more processor power wil be needed. If your com supports Vista, I think it should be able to serve you well until Win7 comes out as you save for the Win7 machines which I believe will cost quite a bit.

personaly i think tht xp is better then vista right now. they havent worked out all the bugs and kinks in the system, plus xp dosent require tht much memory to run the platform. unlike vista tht requires at lest 512mb of memory to run it and even then it run so slow. u need aleats 2gb of memory to run it without any problems. so ya. the only thing tht i like about vista is the setup and the cool new features tht it has.

ya it would. ya i have a laptop that is vista ready, but the only things is that i have to get more momery to have it work.
if thats the only way to use it then i think i'm good giving up memory just for some new features. as long as i can do all the samething that i would normaly do then i think i'll be find. i will eventualy but a new laptop and i'll get vista on it.

Hello Sisco100,
Thanks for bringing up the high demand of Hardware's resources Windows Vista need. Yes, it is true that Windows Vista need a higher computer processing power to run smoothly, which to lead to higher computer price for the new hardwares upgrade. If only Vista require less or same processing power from the computer as Windows XP, that will be great.

Hello Hellcowboy,
Yeah, I heard a lot of bad things about Vista too. Seems like XP is working fine for you and I am happy for you. Thanks a lot for sharing with me your experience, but Microsoft has announced that it will stop producing XP as Vista will be replacing it. Just hope Vista will be more stable in the near future.

XP was definitely good. However, since they are pulling it off the market you should convert to Vista while its cheap
Vista is alright although you have to learn it more than XP which was quite user-friendly. However, when you get the hang of it Vista will be alright and you won't have problems navigating this new OS.
So get that new Vista now.

Hello Joyadalia,
Vista is cheap? I suppose that is only in your country or in your area. Vista retail price in my area is like daylight-robbery. Well, I will might consider to get one if the retail price takes a hit - like iPhone, where the price has been reduced drastically.

Hello Himaachander,
Alright, I will check out the weblog you mentioned, but how reliable it is ? Like the website address suggest, it seems to be a blog by someone who loves Windows and the stuffs mentioned there could be biased.

I still use XP and wil probably stick with it for a long time. Vista seems to unstable and error-prone.
For example, we gave my granddad a Dell laptop for his 75th birthday, and it came with Vista. In less than 5 days the OS had screwed up the drivers and he was unable to use it for 2 weeks until a technician came to his home...
But this is only my experience.

Hello Ceciliaad,
Wow, that must be a very terrible experience for your Granddad. Hmm...from what you said, it seems like drivers for Vista are not very stable yet - or there aren't any drivers for Vista yet if the software developer is slow. Well, I will keep it in mind to check for the programs compatibility before I make the decision. Thanks a lot.

Dear friend,
I used windows XP and later changed to windows vista and at the initial stages I did not felt comfortable with vista but more and more I used it I started liking it and it has many automatic features to prevent much of virus attacks and many other better features too are added. I hope only thing is that we have to take bit time to use it more often.

Hello Shamrack,
Automatic features? What are those automatic features? Care to share? I am no idea about those features. But isn't having too many automatic features a bad thing? As there will be a huge demand on the computer resource. I will prefer a faster computer than a slow but safe computer. Thanks for sharing.

All that I know is that I ahve XP and my husband has vista on his laptop. He is always trying to get on to the internet when I am already on and surfing away. I would never want to have Vista. I pray to God my computer lasts forever and I do not have to get stuck with Windows Vista. Maybe Vista two might be good, but this first edition of Vista is not.

Vista two ? Is there news from Microsoft that second edition of Vista is coming out? Just like windows 98 and windows 98 Second Edition? If it is true, it is going to be cool. I am wondering what are the new features featured in the second edition. Anyway, thanks for letting me know that Vista runs a lot slower than XP, I will definitely keep that in mind.

I love the look and feel of Vista. But we have Windows XP on our desktops and I have the Pro edition on this laptop. I am very comfortable with it. And since we bought these outright, I hate to spend more money on Vista. I suppose we will wait to buy Vista for our computers when we start having major problems with XP and they have quit updating. Besides, we can't afford to buy all the different programs we run in order to run Vista right now.

Hello Barb42,
Yeah, what you mentioned makes sense. It is definitely make no sense to spend extra money to get the different programs needed to make them run on Vista - especially with the inflation and rising cost of living. We should aim to be as thrive as impossible and avoid spending money on unimportant stuff like the operating system of the computer. As long as it can satisfy our needs.

Hello Fdg1937,
Thanks for letting us know that it got too many glitches, maybe it is because of the high demand of computer processing power. Looks like not all good things are definitely better - old things rule sometime!

Hello Ari8388, thanks for sharing, but what it is about Vista that makes it stand out from XP ? I heard horrible tales about Vista, so now I am still having doubt about making the switch. Sometimes, what is new might not always be the best.

Hello Anchopy,
What kinds of error you get and do you experience this yourself or you heard from other people? Oh well, I guess Microsoft should have thoroughly check through the new operating system before releasing it to the market. It will save both parties a lot of hassle.

It's my opinion, what I've experimented, what I've heard and what Internet says.. The biggest problem Is the lack of proper drivers, the lack of third party security solutions like firewall or antivirus, there is application compatibility issues and the general usability..

hello, i have both; Windows XP pro, and Windows Vista. my XP machines are definately faster then my vista machines and the XP machines only have 706mb of ram and 512b compared to 1Gb for my vista machines. i hate that everytime a program wants to acess the internet on vista it asks to allow or deny access, and also when opening certain programs it asks if i executed the file or not. i am so verry tempted to install XP pro on my vista machines but too lazy.

Hello EfrenHinojosa,
It seems like too much of a security is a big turn off as well, but having too little security features will be a bigger turn off when the computers start to behave erratic. Well, I think Microsoft have to strike a balance between these two to provide users like us a better experience when using the computer.

Those who say that Vista is not yet stable do not have their computers well capacitated to support the OS. Our school is using that software and I can say that it has lot more features than XP. But of course, we have to consider the specifications of our computer before getting one, if not, we'll see the new system unusable as well.

Hello Jaypeemauel,
Yes, I will have to agree that Windows Vista is rather unstable - based from the various posts from mylot community. We definitely have to consider our computer specifications before upgrading - we don't want it to have a 2 minutes boot-up time.

Hello Muxicka,
Yes, I am a DOTA (Defense Of The Ancient) player here, I definitely need all the raw power I can get from the computer to get a flawless gaming experience. I will definitely make sure that the new operating system I am switching to will not ruin my gaming experience. Thanks.

Hello Thayes1106,
Alright, thanks for sharing. Seems like you had a bad experience with Windows Vista before. I think all new operating system is hard to use, and lack of support temporarily - since it is a 'new' product. We will have to wait till it becomes 'popular' before making the jump.

im also like you, chase after technology. but i would rather choose Windows XP than Vista... yes its unstable rightnow. XP is more user friendly than Vista.
hope you will choose the right one and the one that you really like to make you satisfied.

Finally! There is someone who admitted to chasing technology other than me (I thought I am the only one here who do that). Maybe I will try the trial version of Vista if there is one available for me download.

I like XP more, but I think that is only because it is more familiar, and hence I am more comfortable with it. I have used Vista, and have no real problem with it. It is just very different. If something isn't broke, don't fix it is my motto, so I don't know what the deal with all the changes is.

Hello Thehawkbat,
Yes, I too find familiar products more user-friendly - because it is familiar! Looks like only your experience differ from the rest of the mylotters who replied to this discussion, interesting. I think it all boils down to the user - maybe it is the user fault rather than the instability of the program, since we are not familiar to it, yet.

Hello f14_0105,
Looks like different operating system from Microsoft suit different needs from different group of people. Maybe they should have Windows Vista Programmer Edition and Windows Vista Graphic Animator Edition, I think it will be great.
