that is exactly what i have in mind. and its not going to take awhile. you know how 3 yrs old are. maybe in a week or so, she will lose interest. and the price of a dog is not cheap here in our country.

Lol! that is possible. Everything she sees in TV, she wants! But she is pretty much persistent with the puppy. hope she gets over it soon.

Have you thought of getting a stuffed animal or even a game with virtual pets?
Even small kids understand that sometimes a pet is not possible.
I have a little cousin with lots of stuffed doggies as she wants one and her parents can not get one for real. And it has worked and they even stop buying them as she loves them now. And is quite happy.
GOod luck.

It can work.
You could buy her a stuffed animal and maybe even go to a thrift store and buy her things for the dog. like maybe a little bag for the doggie like Paris Hilton, you know make it fun for the kid and maybe it is the lack of sleep talking but you and you daughter could have a little bit of fun naming the dog and all.

What about a cat? There is no trouble in having a cat, just make sure the litter box is taken care of. Cats basically take care of themselves. Fish are no fun at all, I do not think a three year old would get excited about fish. But a kitten would be ideal. Very low maintenance

oh i dont mind saying NO. its just that the kid had a very rough time after her mom left us a few months ago, so im trying so hard not to disappoint her much.
we might go to the petstore this weekend & if she wants i'll get her a hamster instead.
thanks shamzy.

This may sound weird, and some people might give me a little grief over this, but...do you have any friends or family with a dog that you could pet sit for a few days? It would give you a chance to show her all that a dog entails, and also give you an idea of how you and her grandma would handle any responsibilities your daughter isn't capable of. If you do this, you should pet sit a slightly older dog, so she doesn't overlook the responsibilities just because of the cute puppy. She might change her mind when she realizes how much work it is, or both of you might see that you can definitely handle it.
As to the other question, I don't think you should get her a fish if she's not interested. Better no pet than a pet she doesn't really want. Have you considered a cat? They are usually slightly less work, since cats are more independent. There is the matter of the litter box, but you would only need to do that every couple of days to once a week, depending on the cat. It might be a suitable alternative if none of you are allergic.
Good luck!

A three year old is too young to properly take care of a dog, so the dog would totally be your responsibility. So, if you don't want a dog for YOU, then you should not get one. I certainly wouldn't want to care for a three year old and a puppy at the same time. It will not hurt your daughter to learn that you don't get everything you want. That's life.
Good Luck.
